Missionaries From China Here Friday Rev. and Mrs. John Lee, mis sionaries from Nationalist China will speak Friday evening at 7:30 at the Christian church. The Lees have just completed their schooling in the United States and are now awaiting for the Chinese Mission door to re open. , .They come highly recommend ed, being native Chinese, will give a first hand report of mis sions in China. John of : Elmwood have reason to be proud of a communique received recently from Nebraska Senator Hugh Butler. It was sent in honor of their golden wedding anniversary, which they ob served some time ago. In speaking of their anniver sary, Butler wrote, "This in deed is one of the rarest gems of fortune life could bring your way and I know this great day was filled with happy memories indelibly engraved upon your hearts and minds." Two vacancies of office were filled, electing Phyllis Young as president and Lila Ortize as vice president. The club voted to give $3.00 to the music scholarship fund. $5.00 to the cancer fund and $12.50 to the foreign student exchange program. Vera Warga reported on the forthcoming home talent play and style show to be held April 26 at the V. F. W. Tickets are to be sold by the members with the proceeds to go for play ground equipment for our city park. The Juniors will hold a joint banquet with the Senior women May 7 at the Presbyterian church. Pat Chriswiser and Esther Donat reported on the state con vention which was held the last week of March in Lincoln. Door prizes went to Dee Niel sen, Alice Woster. Nola Stander, Lila Ortize and Josephine War ga. Hostesses for the evening were Beverly Propst, Katherine Park ening, Judy Forst, Wilma Floyd and Irene Furse. Kass Kilowatt 4-H Club Meets Monday The Kass Kounty Kilowatt 4 H club met Monday evening, April 9 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. .. H. Orndorf f . There were ten members present. Raymond Mayfield called the meeting to order. The minutes j were read and approved. The lesson was read-' and discussed. The schedule for future meet ings was planned. Refreshments were served to the members and the following visitors: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Knabe and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bailer. The next meeting will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Scharp at 7:30 Monday, April 23. Robert Orndorf f, news reporter Engagement Of Jane Applegate Is Learned Here Word has been received here of the engagement of Jane Ap-r plegate of Sacramento to Dewey Deger, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Deger, also of Sacra mento. Miss Applegate is the daugh ter of Paul Applegate of Platts mouth. She completed nurses training at the Creighton Mem orial hospital, St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Omaha and took a year of post graduate work in anesthesia at St. Vin cent's Hospital in Portland, Ore gon. She is employed at Sutter hospital. She is a sister of Mrs. Lloyd Fitch of Plattsmouth and M. Art Foster of Union. The bridegroom elect is a graduate of Grant Union high school. He served in the army in Europe during World War II, and is now employed in Sacra mento. Several pre-nuptial social events honoring Miss Applegate have been held recently. The couple plans ;an early spring weeding. ; v Cy Sherman Is Reported Improved Charles "Cy" Sherman, one time resident of Plattsmouth, is reported to be much improved at a Lincoln hospital, T. H. Pol lock,' long time friend of the family learned this week. In a telephone conversation with Mrs. Sherman, Mr. Pollock learned, that "Cy" has shown rapid improvement in the past two or three weeks. He has been in the hospital for several months. Patricia Kocian Honored At Party Miss Patricia Kocian, a junior student in the St. Joseph Hos pital School of Nursing in Oma ha, was one of 14 girls in the school honored at a birthday party in the Rumpus Room. of the nurses' residence Thursday, April 12. The parties were inaugurated in October and are monthly af fairs. The party had a "Backwards" theme, in the spirit of April foolery. Miss Kocian is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Kocian of 514 3rd Avenue, Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Son Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ad kins of Plattsmouth are the parents of a sen born Saturday, April 7. 1951, at St. Mary's hos pital at Nebraska City. Mrs. Adkins is the former Lena Ford. Daughter A girl to Mr. and Mrs. Don Aylor Monday. April 9, 1951. at St. Joseph's hospital, Omaha; weight 8 lbs., 8 oz. One of the outstanding events of the Spring season was held last Sunday afternoon, April 8, from 2 to 5 o'clock at the Bap tist church honoring Mr. and Mrs. Crede Harris on their 60th wedding anniversary. In spite of a disagreeable day and muddy roads, one hundred and fifty re latives and friends were present to congratulate this highly es teemed couple. The large serving table was covered with a beautiful linen cloth, and was centered with a very attractive, large wedding cake which was circled with sweet peas at its base and the cake was decorated with frosted sweet peas. White tapers were on each side of the cake. Beau tiful potted plants and many colorful bouquets were placed gracefully around the dining room and reception room. Refreshments of servings of ice cream with a small "60" in the center, was served with the cake, nuts and coffee. The la dies of the church served the re freshments. The record of an invalid dau ghter's voice who lives in San Jose, California, was appreciat ed very much by the family. This daughter is Mrs. Ella Schrader. Mrs. Kitty Roberts presented the club with an old McCoy rit- ual that had been in her family since 1869. The short meeting closed with serving refreshments.
