Omaha Man Is Buried At Manley Daniel Burke. 81. of Omaha died at a hospital in Omaha Sunday. Jan. 28. 1951. Surviving are nephews. Dr. J. C. Tighe. Leonard Burke. Bry an Smith and J. D. O'Leary all of Omaha; and nieces. Joseph ine Tiehe. Mrs. Ben Sullivan. Mrs. II. O. Peterson and Mrs. James Yowell. also all of Oma ha. Funeral services were held Wednesday morninc at 10 o' clock from St. Patrick's church at Manley. Rosary was read Tuesday at Dworak-Chapuran Chapel. Burial was at Manley. Alva Under Takes Board Examination Alva Linder of Nehawka. who has served about six months as an apprentice with Caldwell Funeral Home here, was in Grand Island three days this week taking board examination for an embalmers license. He was one of 53 apprentices taking the examinations. It is the largest group ever to take the examinations at one time. Linder will return to Platts mouth to complete his years ap prenticeship with Caldwell Fun eral Home. New Greeting Card Display Installed A new greeting card display case was installed in Schreiner Drug recently. The new case is placed along the northwest cor ner of the store. It displays ap proximately five hundred differ ent cards, each type in a sep arate compartment. The differ ent cases are marked for easy selection of the type of card needed. Former Resident Has Major Surgery Fred Drucker. former chief of police at Plattsmouth. is at Rose land hospital in Chicago fol- lowing a major operation, his J daughter. Mrs. Clarence Corey, i informs The Journal. I Mrs. Corey writes that he has ; undergone a major operation j and will welcome any word from 1 his old friends here. His address ; is Roseland hospital, Chicago. ' Illinois. The Duroc herd owned by Leonard C. Stoehr. of Platts mouth. is one of the official Production-Tested Duroc Herds for 1950 according to word just received from B. R. Evans, sec retary of the United Duroc Rec ord Association. This recognition comes to breeders who have kept produc tion records on all of the litters farrowed during the year. Thir ty production minded Duroc breeders kept records last year. Recognition was achieved in the largest swine testing pro gram of any breed. The Duroc Production Registry program hit a new all-time high with 4.185 nominations for PR in 1950. Entries were made by 977 breeders in 39 different states from North Carolina to Calif ornia. The entire program is de signed as an improvement pro ject, rather than a contest, to help swine producers select qualified breeding animals with production records. Quinnett of Platts mouth, and Gene H. Meyer, sea man recruit. USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. George M. Meyer of Wabash, are undergoing recruit training at Naval Training Cen ter. Great Lakes, Illinois. In the course of their training the recruits are taught seaman ship, navy customs, terms, basic ordnance. gunnery, signaling and navigation. Upon completion of their training they will be assigned either to units or the ileet or to a service school for special ized training. Armstrongs Sell Cafe At Murdock Mr. and Mrs. Fred Armstrong former residents of Plattsmouth. have sold their business at Mur dock and have moved back to their old home here. The Armstrongs moved to Murdock last spring after pur chasing a cafe there. After en joying a good business at Mur dock," they decided to sell and have moved back to Platts mouth. They will reside in their former home at 1111 4th avenue. T3 I Union 4-H Leaders Attend Conference The 4-H Leader Training Con ference held at Lincoln January 24th through the 27th drew a record attendance of 350. Lead ers from Cass county attending were Mrs. Walter F. Weiss, George Rieke and Mrs. Ted Brannan of Union. It was a wonderful opportun ity for the leaders from over the state to meet and learn every phase of how to make better 4-H club members over the state. Parliamentary prcoedure for clubs, and work in the different departments were the main points of interest for experience. The first milk cows for the , Plymouth Colony arrited 325 1 years ago.
