Rea Home Scene Of Family Gathering The home of Mr. and Mrs. Tred Rea was the scene of a delightful lamlly gathering on Tuesday, all of the children, ex cept Sister Sheila, who teaches at Wetmore, Kansas, being -"home for Christmas." Those present were Mrs. Ed. Ossenkop and children, Connie, Sheila. 'Jerry and Margaret Jean of Falrbury; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Levviston Social Club Meeting The December meeting cf Lewlston Social Circle club was held at the home of Mrs. John Hobscheidt with Mrs. S. Y. Smith associate hostess. The members and guests gath ered around a well laden table at noon to enjoy the covered dish luncheon. Our president, Mrs. Lewis, conducted the business meet ing and made a report on the project of gathering Butter-Nut labels for gifts to orphanage children. More than 500 were collected. Mrs. Martin Sporer gave a very Interesting discussion and Bible reading on the true mean ing of Christmas. The rest of the afternoon was spent singing Christmas songs, games, and the exchange of gifts. The meeting for January 9 will be at the home of Mrs. Her man Comer. - Sunbonnet Garden Club Holds Party The Sunbonnet Oarden Club held their Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Hattie Shanholtz with a sumptous covered' dish dinner at noon There were 13 members present and 2 guests, Deloras Nelson and Mrs. Thelma Baker. After dinner all gathered round the brightly decorated Christmas tree and had (rift exchanee. The remainder of the afternoon was spent visiting and reciting poe try. All had an enjoyable dav. A pleasant time was had opening gifts and visiting. Showers Given For Mrs. V. Braun Mrs. Reede Tilley and Mrs. Charles Smith honored Mrs. Vincent Braun at a pink and blue shower at the Officers Clu'o, Offutt Air Base, Thursday, De cember 14. Mrs. Braun was also honored at a pink and blue shower at the home of Mrs. Clark Finney on Thursday. December 21. The honoree received many lovely gifts. Christmas Dinner At Tritsch Home A turkey dinner with all the trimmings was taken to the home of 93 year old Mrs. Eliza beth Tritsch on Christmas Day by members of her family. Those attending were Mr. and - Mrs. Maynard Tritsch and daughters. Nancy. Carol. Phyllis Ann and Mary Ellen. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Tritsch, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Tritsch. Mrs. Amelia M. Zion Commandery No. 5, Knights Templar of Nebraska, held their annual Christmas Day observance at the Masonic Hall in Plattsmouth on December 25. Meeting at the hall at 11 a. m officers and members of the Commandery paid tribute to in dividuals of the lodge that had contributed to Masonry during the year coming to a close, to departed brethren, and to the several lodges. The bride chose for her wed ding a sheer wool frock In the pantomine shade, with which she wore black accessories and an off white felt hat. Her cor sage was white carnations and rosebuds. Mrs. Jacobs wore a black silk two-piece dress, black accessories and had a corsage of ' pink and white carnations. The men were attired in busi ness suits. Following the wedding the couple were honored at a sup per at the home of the groom's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Shanholtz. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jacobs, Leland Shanholtz, Mr. and Mrs. Berylo Shanholtz and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Shanholtz. The newlyweds departed to spend Christmas at Potter, Nebr., former home or the bride, and then on to Denver. Mrs. Shanholtz is an opera-j tor at the style snop Beauty Salon in this city; Mr. Shanholtz is employed with a construction firm on the large power project at Bellevue. A summer wedding is planned. Photo Dy Cniswiser Norfolk Packing 1 Christmas Party Friday noon the ladies of the Norfolk Packing Company held a very delightful Christmas party. The covered dish dinner consisted of many Christmas treats. A surprise Santa Claiis in the person of ' Florence Ar nold added to the spirit by pre senting the gift exchange. Alex Campoell superintendent and Leo Hambling. supervisor, were among those present and re ceived lovely gifts. At the close of the work day. each employee received a nice gift from the company. Wiles Family Hold Christmas Dinner ; ; At the home of Mr.-and Mrs. C. L. Wiles at Mynard. the fam ily Christmas was observed on Sunday, with a turkey dinner at noon. The home was beautifully decorated for the occasion and a large Christmas tree was thfe center of attraction, in the sun- room where the family held the girt exchange. In the evenine the entire group attended the Christmas oroeram at the Evaneelipal n R church. - Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wiles. Janice and Alan; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Grosshans. Jimmle and Marjor le with the host and hostess. On Christmas Day. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wiles motored to Fairfax. Mo., to the home of Rev. and Mrs. Chas. A. Finch, the latter a sister of C. L. Wiles. Other members of the family at the home were the daughters Miss Helen Janet Finch of Craig. Mo.. Miss Grace Finch. Fairfax and a son Dr. Tom Finch of Iola. Kansas. Avoca Schools Give Christmas Party Thursday Children of the Avoca schools, grades one through eight, pre sented - a delightful Christmas program at the school auditor ium last Thursday evening, De cember 21, titled "Red Candles." Directed by Mrs. Hannah Paap and Miss Geraldine Norton, the special program drew an ex ceptionally large audience of parents and patrons of the school who enjoyed the special musical written by Estelle Mer rymon Clark with music by Hilda Butler Farr and Don Wilson. The auditorium was decorated with a mammoth Christmas tree, wreaths and candles. Members of the two groups brought children's gifts that were to be delivered to White Hall Orphanage in Lincoln be fore Christmas. This has been a traditional gesture. The evening's recreation con sisted of square dancing after which refreshments were served by the Ca"ss County group. Bedding Demonstration The first two weeks in Janu ary the Ho meExtension club leaders will receive training on beddinz. The lesson will consist of the selection and care of mattresses, springs and pillows, sheets and pillow cases. . We will try to recognize the value of sleep as well as proper care of sleeping equipment. Pearl L. Schultze, Home Extension Agent Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walling spent Christmas Day with rela tives and - friends in Lincoln. They also stopped off at Vet erans' Hospital at the edge of the city and visited with BYank Smith, Journal editor, for a short time. Tables, arranged in 'U for mation, were beautifully decor ated. As centerpieces, tall, red lighted candles surrounded with sprays of evergreen formed an attractive" display. At . each guest's plate a large popcorn ball, wrapped in red and green cellophane, added to the color ful Christmas holiday scheme. Following the dinner. Coun ty Treasurer Ruth Patton intro duced Walter H. Smith, retiring county attorney. Miss Patton paid tribute to Mr. Smith's ex cellent record as county attor ney, for his cooperation with an county officials and their problems, and for his untiring efforts in county and civic af fairs. - Acting as toastmaster, ' Mr. Smith praised highly the serv ice rendered the county by Commissioners Parr Young, chairman of the board, and Alva G. Reid, both of whom are re tiring from office this year. He also commended E. C. Markham, county surveyor and .engineer, for efficient handling of the du ties of his office, and to Geo. R. Sayles. who retires from the of fice of county clerk after more than 30 years of continuous service. As a special tribute to Mr. Sayles, fellow officials and em ployees presented him with a Lifetime Schaef fer's pen as a token of esteem and recognition for his many years of service to Cass county. Mr. Sayles expres sed his appreciation for the co operation he had received and the many kindnesses bestowed upon him during these many years. As an entertainment feature of the program, motion pictures of places of interest visited dur ing a recent southern United States and Cuban trip taken by Ccmmissioner Wm. F. Nolte. were shown guests. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Nielsen and family spent Sunday and Christmas with relatives at Min den, Nebr. They returned to Plattsmouth Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Urish and daughter, Mary, of Council Bluffs, Iowa. John E. Urish, and Lou Ella Strivens of Hartington spent Christmas day with their mother, Mrs. Lorine Urish, and grandmother, Mrs. J. G. Mei singer. A classified Ad in Tne Jour nal costs as little as 35c. Lewiston Club Has Christmas Party ; The Lewiston Social Circle club met at the home of Mrs. John Hobscheidt with Mrs. S. Y. Smith as assistant hostess. This was an all day meeting with members bringing baskets at noon. After dinner games were played. Butter-Nut labels were guessed and nearly 500 were sent to the Butter-Nut club to aid the children in orphanages for Christmas gifts. Business for the new year was taken up and the- hostesses for new year planned. There was a grab bag with something for all; also gifts were distributed and opened. The dime cake was baked by Mrs. Kenneth Todd and Mrs. Elmer Pike is to bake the next one. As the day grew to a close all left for home, having had a wonderful Christmas party. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Herman Comer. Enjoys Christmas Visit In Omaha Mrs. R. A. Bates spent the Christmas holiday in Omaha, going on. Sunday afternoon to visit Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ma nasek and enjoy Christmas Eve with the Manaseks and their children, Beverly Jean and Bobby. Christmas Day the grouo had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Grassman and family. Mr. and Mrs. Manasek and children , brought Mrs. Bates home Tues- ; day afternoon after a most pleasant visit.
