A Christmas party and gift exchange for the Junior worn an's club was held at the home of Mrs. Victor Ross -Thursday evening. Assistant hostesses were Mrs. Hal Hansen, Mrs Lawrence Gregg, Mrs. Charles Martin, Mary Todd. A short business meeting was conducted by Mrs. Elmre Ross. A contri bution was made to the Child Saving Institute at Omaha. Members decided to enter the, state scrap book contest. Games entertained the guests. Mr. and Mrs. . John Hansen and Frances were dinner guests Friday of Mr. and Mrs. A. Arthur Hild at Plattsmouth. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hansen, Mrs. Arthur Wolph and Mrs. Clarence Embury were in Lin coln Wednesday. Mrs. Hansen visited Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Beck er and Mrs. D. E. Smith. v. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond May field have purchased the Akins cafe and took possession this week. Mr. and Mrs. Anns op erated the cafe for 13 years. They moved to their home in the east part of Nehawka. The children of the Methodist Sunday school will present a Christmas program at the church Sunday evening, Decem ber 17. The Extension School of Com merce Glee clubs and the Mel' OTJears will give an hour's con cert at Joslyn Memorial Sunday afternoon, December 17. Jean Stone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Stone, is a member of the girl's glee club and of the MelOTears. There are 70 mem bers in the. girl's glee club and 12 in the Mel'O'Dears. The Mel'OTears sang to a group of 75 women at a D. A. R. tea in Omaha, December 9. Those who plan to attend the concert at Joslyn Memorial are Mr. and Mrs. Chester Stone and Carol, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Stone, Miss Isadore Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Stone and Mr. and Mrs. Meivin Storm. Mrs. Robert Jameson. Mrs Neil Pierce, Mrs. R. B. Stone and Miss Isadore Hall called at the home of Mr. and MrsjEd Jumper at Ashland Thursday .afternoon Mrs. Jumper, formerly Edith Moon, taught school at Nehaw ka. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wunder lich. and Mrs. S. C. Niday were dinner guests Friday evening of Mr. and Mrs. Meivin Sturm. Miss Isadore Hall, Snoqual mie, Wash, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Stone were dinner guests Sat urday of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hall. musical at the Methodist church on Sunday evening. The com bined choir of three churches was of 40 voices, with Warren Turner as director and Mrs. John Johnston at the organ. The first number was a pro cessional, each singer bearing a lighted candle and joining in "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful." The main number was Fred Waring's arrangement of "Song of Christmas." Narrators were LeRoy Cook and Vernon Borne meier. Mr. Turner's solo was from "The Messiah," "Comfort Ye My People." John Hall sang "Ave Maria" and a trio com prised of Eleanor Bronkow, Jan ice and Shirley Kunz rendered the selection, "Oh, Holy Night." There were other short solos in cluded in the splendid chorus recital. Mr. Turner and Mrs. Johnston are to be especially commended for their excellent services as they have lived here only a lew months, and Mr. Turner, a senior at Wesleyan, had taken part in the opera at the university the four preced ing evenings, which was "II Trovatore." Rev. Mr. Boosinger had the closing talk and bene diction. At-the above named crmrch, Miss Lorene Schacht of Lincoln, the state youth director, was the speaker at the morning serv ice. She had been the minister here for one summer vacation recently. The musie special was the anthem, "The Birth of Christ." when Dr. Totman and Lyle Buell were the soloists. Cass County Extension Notes Fertilizer Dealers , A fertilizer dealers school is slated for the University ot Ne braska College of Agriculture campus Jan. 18 and 19. Dr. M. D. Weldon. extension soils specialist at the Univer sity, said these are some oi uie topics which will be discussed at the meetings; Results of re cent outstate testing work, ler tilizer recommendations by 'the college, soil types in relation to fertilizer requirements and the role of fertilizers in the soil con servation plan. Also on the agenda, said Dn Weldon, is a discussion of the state fertilizer law. A repre sentative of the fertilizer indus try will discuss his product's supply prospects for 1951. (UP) A shoplifter chose a five and ten cent store as his Held, but the manager caught him with $1.14 worth of goods. He was fined $5 plus costs and ten days in jail.
