Mrs. Martin Ross and Mrs. Elmer Ross attended the la dies aid meeting of the Evan gelical church of Murdoch at the home of Mrs. Floy Buell on Thursday afternoon. The Junior and Senior Wo men's club of Nehawka spon sored a dance at the auditorium Saturday night for the teen agers of the community. Clar ence Ross called the square dances. The committee in charge were Mrs. Glen Rut ledge, Mrs. Carl Wessel, Mrs. Paul WThipple, Mrs. Rose Red den, Mrs. Vance Balfour and Mrs. Elmer Ross. Robert Sand has been elec ted by members of Tri K. an honorary society of agronomy at the University of Nebraska, to represent them at the an nual national meeting of the American Society of Agronomy at Cincinnati, Ohio. Another student, Ernest Rousek, will al so attend and wrill be awarded a scholarship which he received as one of the top three winners In a national essay contest. The students will accompany facul ty members of the University on October 30. Mrs. Pearl Johnson, Syracuse, Mr. and Mrs. Don Davis were guests for the day Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Getches. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Cappen, Lincoln called in the afternoon. The Brownies and Girl Scouts met at the Georee Sheldon nome Thursday afternoon. Mr. ana Mrs. Sheldon have arrang ed a room in their basement for the scout meetings. Mrs. Paul Whipple is assistant leader to Mrs. Glen Thacker and Mrs. Thurmond Nixon is assistant to Mrs. Cooper Hunt. Miss Evelyn Wolnh attended the golden wedding celebration or Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Ranney at Weeping Water Sunday after noon. Mary Todd, teacher in district 19, spent the week end at her home in Union. The F.H.A. girls and their guests held a picnic and hay ride Monday evening at the Turner farm near Union. Miss Blanche Graham, sponsor of the girls F.H-A. accompanied them. Thirty attended and Mr. Lester Gansemer of Murray furnished the hay ride. Neila Kay Pierce was two years old Saturday and her mother entertained at a birth day party for her.. The Jonathan Cass chapter of the DAJv. met with Mrs. Glen Thacker Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. J. J. Pollord as co hostess. Mrs. Lois Tefft, regent, Avoca p.resided. Mrs. Bruce Stone had charge of devotions. Mrs. Glen Thacker presented a musical program. By means of phonograph records, Mrs. Thac ker presented Beethoven's Six th Symphony and gave a brief talk regarding the composer's life and the interpretation of the symphony. At Ceresco they vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pries. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Pollard called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Sumner and family at Elmwood Sunday evening. Mrs. Carl Balfour entertain ed the W.S.C.S. of the ehawka Methodist church at her home Wednesday afterncon. Assisting her were Mrs. Kent Balfour. Mrs. George Kime and Mrs. Nels Thoren. Mrs. John Hansen pre sided. Mrs. J. J. Pollard was pro gram leader. The week of prayer and self denial was ob served with the theme, "Let Heaven to Earth Draw Near." Mrs. Emer Ross opened the pro gram with a prelude, accompa nied the hymns and closed the program with an offertory. Members assisted Mrs. Pollard with articles on the mission houses and prayers. Mrs. Dean Nutzman is a new member. An offering was sent to the Mis sions. Refreshments were served. MISSOURI VISITORS On Friday eveinng Hr. and Mrs. Herman L. Maasen were pleasantly surprised by a visit irom Mrs. Maasens sister and family Mr. and Mrs. Jule Leivian and son Julius and daughter and grandson, Mrs. Melvin C. Stieferman and Gary. They were also guests of SSgt. and Mrs. William B. Mayle and son Ronnie who reside with the Maasens. m They enjoyed seeing the coun try and also visited Boys Town. Streight. Gary Allen Davis of Lincoln is spending this week at the J. C. Streight home while his par ents Mr. and Mrs. Riley Davis are at Mobile, Alabama, called there by the death of Mr. Davis father.
