Schutz returned Monday evening from several weeks spent in Florida where she was in attendance at a re union of the members of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Petersen, Sr.. at Venice, Florida, one of the popular re sorts of the Gulf country. They also visited the winter quarters of the Ringling Broth ers Circus at Sarasota and en joyed seeing the animals and the training acts before the cir cus starts on the road. FOUR-SQUARE CLUB The Four-Square Club met at the Otto Miller home Thursday, i March 23rd. with ten members present. Roll call was answered by giving "House Cleaning tunis - Project leaders Gakemeier and Mrs. Miss Buzzy Lydia ' Streich gave a very interesting lesson on "Selection and Care of Carpets and Rugs." Monday evening, in the lounge of the 40 & 8 club rooms. Le Petit Chapeau Mollle Gobel man presided. In a very impressive initiation ceremony, Minnie Schiber was initiated into the salon. Sophia Wolever. child welfare chairman, had asked each mem ber to complete a scrap book and bring to the meeting. These books are to be sent to the Jewish- Children's hospital in Den ver, Colorado. Several had their books completed, these will pro vide several hours of entertain ment for the children in the T. B. ward. The salon voted to send $5.00 to the departmental La Secretaire, Mildred Fiala. This will be added to the fund collected from each salon in the state and will be sent to St. Die Foundation for T. B. orphans in France. A letter of congratulations was read from Mildred Fiala, departmental La Secretari, to members of the salon, congra ulating them for being 100 per cent in membership. Alpha Muncie and Mary Nel son were selected to entertain the members at the meeting in April. At the conclusion of the busi ness meeting the members en- ioved a fine birthdav party, this being the 1st anniversary of the salon. La Petite Chapeau. Mrs. Perry is one of the lead ers in the work of the women's organization of the Presby terian church for a number of years and has made a splendid record in this line of activity. Many Enjoy the Keentime Dance A very large crowd was pre sent at the dancing pariy of the Keentime Club in the V. F. W. club rooms on Friday even ing, it being estimated that there were from 150 to 175 of the young people in attendance at the event. The music was furnished by the juke box and very much en joyed by all of the party until the homegoing hour. Out of town guests at the d3ncing party included Dick Lannon, Charles Justice and Erv.in Herzog of Nebraska City. Charles Dodd and Harry Bauer of Harlan, Iowa, and Glen Jackson of Bellevue. The chaperones of the dance were Mrs. Charlotte Gall. Mrs. ; Josephine Strough, Al Nierstc ; and Earl Allbee. i Local Girl Is Sorority Manager The various fraternities and ! sororities at the campus of the j Nebraska Wesleyan university i held their election this week at I Lincoln. The members of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority j at their election named Miss j Janet Tiekotter of this city as the house manager of the group, v;ho will have charge of the conduct of the home. Miss Tiekotter is a daughter cf Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tie kotter of this city. JOLLY WORKERS CLUB The Jolly Workers club met Thursday, March 16 at the home of Mrs George Kaffen berger with a very pleasing at tendance of the membership. The afternoon was spent in working on a rug, one of the club projects, as well as the regular business session. The ladies at the close enjoyed a line luncheon that had been preuared by the hostess. Given Very High Honor in State Fontenelle chapter of the Daughters ot the American Revolution of this city, held their regular meeting on Tues day evening at the home of their regent. Miss Pearle Staats, on Park Hill, with a very pleas ing attendance of the member ship present. The chapter received the re port of the recent state con vention at Kearney that was much enjoyed and brought the highlights of the meeting to the members. The members were delighted to know that the local chapter had been awarded the prize for securing the most members in the year of any post under 23 membership. The newest mem ber of the local chapter is Miss Ruth Westover, who is now en gaged in teaching in Oregon. The new member is a niece of Mrs. H. L. Gamer and Miss Jes sie Robertson, of this ctiy, also members of Fontenelle chap ter. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Etta Gorder in April and at which time At torney Madge Garnett will be the speaker. The meeting was closed with the serving of light refresh ments by the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stamp Entertained Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stamp and Mrs. Grace Pugsley. sister of Mrs. Stamp, were honored guests on Sunday at a very lovely covered dish dinner at the attractive country home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Spangler, south of this city, meeting many of the old neighbors and friends who called to spend a few hours together and renew ing old times. Mr. and Mrs. Stamp, who have been engaged in business in Omaha for the past several years, have disposed of their interests and are now planning several months outing. They, with Mrs. Pugsley, are going to Enid, Oklahoma, where they will visit with Charles Taylor, a brother of the" ladies, who has long made his home in that part of the south. Later they are planning on driving to the west coast. Those who enjoyed the deli cious dinner, comprised: Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Leonard, Mrs Minnie Hild, Mrs. Ella Beins. Mrs. Mrs. a.nd Mr. and Mrs. Charles Manners, Mr and Mrs. George Mumm and family, Mr. and Mrs. Spangler and the guests of honor Mary Ellen Williams In Ice Skating Show Miss Mary Ellen Williams daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E. C. Williams, was presented in a program of ice skating at the Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum on Mon day evening, March 27. The Figure Skating Club of Omaha presented "A Story Book Ball." It was a fine display of the talent of these young ice skaters. Miss Williams was one of the six hunters in the Red Riding Hood episode. This is her sec ond year in the Figure Skating Club and she has passed her "Pre Test" this year. Rev. and Mrs. E. O. Williams and Michael Shellcnbarger were guests of the occasion. F. entertain ed at a district banquet on Monday evening at the audi torium. The Rebekah lodge members prepared and served the banquet to one hundred. Guests were present from Ne braska City. Weeping Wrater, Plattsmouth. Louisville, Elm wood, Avoca, Nemaha, Auburn, Lincoln, Seward and York. Officers present were Grand Master, Earl E. Vandel, Mitchell; H. D. Whipple, Superintendent of Odd Fellows Home. York. Toasts followed the banquet. Grand Master, Earl E. Vandel presented Mr. F. C. Shomaker the Fifty Year Jewel for his fifty year membership. The tables were decorated in red and white, the lodge colors, with red roses in bud vases and the red insignia of the lodge on white table cloths. Former Resident Visits in City Mrs. Guy Hughson who has been ill for the past twelve days with pneumonia is able to be up again but still confined to her home. While ill she and her family were surprised by a visit from Mr. Bill Vandergrift. son of Charles Vandergrift, a former resident of Plattsmouth, now living in Beatrice. Mr. Vandergrift has been in Germany where he served as staff sergeant before his dis charge. While Bill was enroute to the U. S. a son was born to his wife in Germany only liv ing seven weeks. While here h? told of his sister Ladonna, 15. and her fellow choir members, narrowly missing being blown up in the mysterious explosion which destroyed the Baptist church in Beatrice. A represen tativc of Life Magazine called on La Donna, resulting in her picture along with the de molished church, the pastor and other choir members appearing in the March 27 issue of that magazine. La Donna ' attended school here through the seventh grade. Old Friends Have Meeting Tuesday, R. R. Furse. publish er of the Journal, had the pleas ure of a visit from two old friends from Harlan county, Ne braska, here for a short visit. One of the visitors was Ford H. McCoy, of Omaha, publicity director of Boys Town, who in years past was associated with a paper in Orleans, Nebraska, where he was a friend of the Furse family of Alma. The other visitor was Mitchell Everson, of Alma, who was here to visit with his son. Jack Everson and fam ily, the son being located here with the engineering force on the Louisville road. NAMES NEW SON Mr. and Mrs. Glen Pankonin of this city, who were made very happy last Thursday by the birth of a son, weighing eight pounds, two and a half ounces, have named the youngster Glen William. Old Resident Writes from West Plattsmouth friends will be interested in learning that Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Drucker are again back at their home in Portland, Oregon, after a sum mer and fall spent in visiting around through the west and central west. They kept the Journal accompanying them and state they enjoy every part of it. They report a fine time where they visited over the country. Fred States that the flowers are in bloom in Portland and the grass nice and green, the temperature at Portland ranges from 38 to 40 in the night and up to CO and 65 in the daytime. He also reports that Con Grebe is back in Portland and had a fine time while in Plattsmouth. PASSES 92 YEARS Mrs. Laura Barritt celebrated her 92nd hirthday March 15. 1950, at Weeping Water. A number of close friends called and spent the afternoon with her at Rest Haven visiting. Refreshments ofcake, cook ies, spiced tea and mints were served. The cake was baked by her daughter, Mrs. John Nor ris. Mrs. Barritt has resided at Rest Haven for the last eight years. Rev. J. W. Taenzler, pastor of the First Christian church of Glcnwood. was here Monday afternoon for a few hours visit ing with old friends. Rev. Taen zier was for a number of years pastor of the local Christian church. -' ! CULLOM BUSY BEES The Cuhom Busy Bees held their regular meeting at the home of Valeria Meisinger on March 19. Due to the absence of the leader, Mrs. Wralter Weiss, the meeting was led by the as sistant leader, Mrs. Louis Wag oner. There were eleven pre sent. Roll call was given with a rule of good manners.
