Mr. Peterson of Nebraska City then showed some very interesting pictures after which a short business session was held. Announce Engagement Mr. and Mrs. Tim Woster are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Miss Alice, to Mr. Bernard Ulrich. son of Mrs. Josephine Ulrich of this city. The young poeple are planning a spring wedding. Proven Drugs Prove the Best Agency SONG OF CHEER . va Vt ..Y - - Junior Woman's Club Hold Their Christmas Party The Junior Woman's club met in the main dining room of chc Edith Solomon coffee shop on Monday evening, December 12th for their annual cnristmas party and December business meeting. . The president, Mrs. Vera Warga, presided over the meet ing. The room was decorated in keeping with the Christmas sea son and was a beautiful setting for the party. A report was given on the bake sale by Beverly Propst, Dee Nielsen, membership Chair man, reported on several new members. Juanita Brendel, county cancer chairman, sent word that anyone "wanting a speaker and pictures on cancer control, contact her and she will arrange for a speaker. The president announced that the Red Cross blood mo bile would be in Plattsmouth, January 12th, and any of the members wishing to donate a pint of blood, should contact her. These blood banks are now furnishing blood to the Veterans hospital in Lincoln, so it is doubly important that all members give if it is possible. A report was given of the meeting with the senior wom an's club to meet the state Dresident. Everyone that at tended had a nice time and en joyed the . state president very much. A committee was named for the President's ball to be h3ld in January. Those on the com mittee are Beverly Propst, Joan Solomon and June Jac obs, the place and date of the dance will be announced later. The president states srv? is still looking for a March of Dimes chairman for Platts mouth, as funds are badly needed. The business meeting was closed and the' meeting turned over to Mrs. Nielsen. Christmas carols were sung by the group led by Shirley May abb. Mrs. George Jacobs at the piano., John Jacobs sang three beautiful Christmas songs ac companied by Mrs. George Jac obs and was received with pleas ure by the club. Gifts were exchanged and a cash donation was sent to the Child's Saving Institute in Om aha. Delicious refreshments were served by the committee, Mrs. Nielsen, Pat Chriswisser. Lillian Schmitt Mildred Hall, Cather ine Kaffenberger. Holy Rosary Church Party One hundred and thirty-five people attended the annual fam ily Christmas party in Rosary Hall last Sunday evening. A buffet supper started the even ing at 6:30. Jim and Bud Be!- litz of Omaha, played on piano and accordions during the sup per. The program for the children included the showing of the mo tion picture "Enchanted Forest" and a comedy reel. The pas tor, Father Edward C. Tuchek, distributed gifts to the trus- tees of the church, the organist, choir director, members of the choir and the altar boys. Treats were given to fifty chlidren present. The singing of Christ mas carols brought the party to a happy conclusion. B. B. Shanholtz arrived from Bassett, Virginia, to spend the Christmas holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Shan holtz. He was accompanied by Dean Snyder who will visit rela tives and friends. Garden Club Has Christmas Party The Plattsmouth Garden club held their Christmas party on Monday afternoon at the main dining room of the Edith Solo mon coffee shop, a very fine at tendance of the members being present to take part in the de llghtful afternoon. The tables were very attrac tively arranged by Mrs. Orville Nielsen with the colorful Christ mas theme, ' sprays of the pine branches, poinsettia and candles being artistically arranged. Mrs. Lillian Freeman had charge of the program of the afternoon that was very inter esting and enjoyed by everyone very much. The members Joined in the singing of the Christmas carols led by Mrs. Al Nierste with Mrs Freeman as- the accompanist, Two very lovely piano duets were given by Marlyn Koukal and Lorena Nierste that added much to the program. Mrs. P. T. Heineman enter tained the members of the club with a very interesting talk on the various birds that she had observed at her home the past few months, birds that remained here for the winter season. One of the features of the meeting was the auction which was held under the direction decorations that had been ar ranged by Mrs. Louis Hansen and Mrs. Emma Egenberger were sold and the proceedings used In club expense. The refreshments of the af ternoon were under the direc tion of Mrs. RB.Keller. Naomi Circle Has Christmas Party Mrs. Harry White, assisted by Mrs. Otto Wphlfarth, enter tained the -members of the Naomi Circle; .of the W. S. C. S. at her home e on Dec. 15th, for their meeting and , Christmas party. Mrs. J. E. Wiles gave the Christmas story from the Bible. Mrs. Glen McClure had the les son, on "Women' in the Scrip tures." ; The members brought Christ mas cookies to be sent to the City Mission in Omaha. A Christmas gift exchange was enjoyed following which the hostesses served delicious re freshments. ' ratronizc Journal Advcrstiscrs. Maple Grove Club Enjoys Fine Meeting By R1RS. F. O. SAND Mrs. Carl Balfour entertained the Maple Grove Extension club at their Christmas party with a covered dish luncheon at noon Thursday. Assistant hostesses were Mrs. Christina Chappell, Mrs. Gilbert Kime and Mrs. Kent Balfour. Fiftv wetre nresent anri i guests were Miss Pearl Schultz, J county home agent; Mrs. Jesse Westlake, Eagle, county chair man: Mrs. Vance Balfour and daughters and Mrs. Ray Schrei- ner ana son. The lace covered table was centered with a very attractive Christmas arrange ment or Santa s Toy Shop, with a driveway of sugar squares, lol lypop fence, sugar Dlum tre and Santa and his reindeers. The small tables were decorated with pine branches and candles. Mrs. George Kime presided at the business meeting. Mrs. Ivan Hansen reported that 85 mem bers joined the Blue Cross-Blue Shield health plan. Twenty-nine woricers canvassed the commu nity and twelve of these were Maple Grove club members. Eighteen club members joined the plan. A letter from the County aeent. concernine the January-February lessons on "Meat cookery," was read. It was decided to have the four clubs of Union and Nehawka meet in the Methodist church at Nehawka in January and Miss Schult2, county home aeent. will present the lesson to the clubs instead of to the leaders which is the usual procedure. Since meat is very expensive this wi;i reduce the cost of the lesson t-j these clubs. Mrs. Georee Kime. Mrs. Oren Pollard and Mrs. Hen- nine Johnson will be the host esses at this meeting. Mrs. Vic tor Koss and Mrs. Nels Thoren were elected to serve as leaders at these meetings. . Mrs. Kime turned the meet ing over to Mrs. Ivan Hansen, who nlaved Fred Warins's rec ord album. "The Song of Christ mas. Mrs. Westlake and Miss Schultz spoke of the Christmas season. There was a gift ex change. Guest Here for Holiday Season ' The R. W. Knorr family will have as a guest over the Christ mas holidays Mrs. Knorr's niece, Miss Ida Mae Whisinand of Bur lington, Colorado. Miss Whisi nand is employed in the office of the construction company who are building the large dam at Burlington and finds her work very fascinating. . The Knorrs drove to Omaha Wednesday evening to meet Ida Mae and bring her to Platts mouth. D.W. Talcott and family were Sunday dinner guests at the home of the former's parents at Greenwood. Christmas season. The evening began with a de licious oyster supper, capably prepared by the hostess and Mrs. Roy O. Cole. Following the supper the regular meeting was presided over by Guy Wiles. Various committee re ports were given and moving pictures on soil conservation were shown by Richard O. Cole. The remainder of the even ing was spent in playing games with "white elephants" given as prizes. At a late hour, "Christmas Tree" ice cream and cake were served. Everyone returned to their respective homes after a happy evening with thanks to a perfect host and hostess. Mrs. Wiles Returns To Omaha Hospital Mrs. W. H. Wiles, who has been in poor health for the past year, was taken to Omaha Sunday evening, wher-i she was placed in the Clarkson hospital for treatment. Mrs. Wiles has been home for the past four months after an eight weeks stay at the hospital under ob servation and will now under go further treatment Her ad dress is Mrs. W. H. Wiles, room 322, Clarkson hospital, Omaha. Enjoys Reunion With Parents in Kansas Mrs. Fred Feldhousen enjoyed a week end visit with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Fitch, assisting in the observance of the fifty-tifth wedding anni versary of her parents held at Frankfurt, Kansas. The anniversary was enjoyed by all six children of the fam ily and was an event that all will long remember as it was the first time in fifteen' year-? that they all have had the op portunity of being together and renewing old times. HERE FOR TRADING Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dall and son, Frank, were in th'j city Tuesday from their home at Manley. to spend a few hours looking after some trading and visiting with friends. Frank is home from the University foL the Christmas . holidays, with the home folks and the" old friends and will resume his school work on January 2d.
