Sketch of Life Of Long Time Resident Mrs. G. O. Schwenneker, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Glaze and daughter, Shirley, of this city. were at Ashland, the past week to attend the funeral services for Mrs. Diana Crawford Bush nell, 77, who died on Saturday at the family home near Ash land. The services were held at the Marcy chapel and conducted by Rev. Milton Laid, pastor of the Congregational church. The burial was at the Ashland cem etery. Mrs. Bushnell was the fourth child cf James and Melissa Sweat Crawford. Her father and his brothers were veterans of the Civil War, and migrated from Ohio and Illinois in quest of exercising their Veterans' Homestead rights and estab lishing new homes in the West. They entered the Nebraska ter ritory in June, 1866, ferrying the Missouri river at Plattsmouth. They staked claims in middle western Cass county. Mrs. Bushnell was born in a prairie home near Murdock on February 29, 1872. Cass county had always been her home. She received her elementary and high school education from the nearby rural schools, and then attended the Western Normal college at Lincoln. She graduat ed from the Normal department in 1895, and for six years taught in Cass county rural schools. On December 25, 1898, she was united in marriage with Marvin E. Bushnell of Osage, la. They went immediately to the farm that has remained her home for the past fifty years. Mrs. Bushnell was the moth er of nine children: Mrs. Laura Sherman, Mrs. Mildred Olson, Mrs. Vera Jenny, Mrs. Bernice Streight, Mrs. Barbara Laugh lin, Mrs. Edna Fidler, Miss Nor ma Bushnell and Messrs. Craw ford and Clark Bushnell. These, with 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one broth er, James Crawford of South Bend, one daughter-in-law and six sons-in-law, survive. Mrs. Bushnell died at the age of 77 years. She had suffered an infection of the lungs for a number of years. Three grand daughters preceded her in death, as did her husband, who passed away on June 5, 1945. Will Select "Cowboy Kid" at Ak-Sar-Ben The "Cowboy Kid" of the Ak- Sar-Ben World Championship Rodeo will be selected at the fi nal performance of the show in Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum at Omaha at 2:15 p. m. Sunday, October 9. The contest, a new feature this year, will open to any young cowboy at least seven years old but not over thirteen, wearing western equipment on ponies under 58 inches. Judges will select the "kid" under the same rules used dur ing a western peny class of a horse show. Ponies will count 20 per cent, horsemanship 30 per cent and personal appear ance will count 50 per cent. Glenn Williams of Ralston is chairman of the" event. In addition to the "cowboy kid," entries placing second, third, fourth and fifth will be named as hazers for their chief. A hand-tooled saddle will be presented to the winner of the " event, with other awards for the hazcrs. The third grand-championship was awarded to Edward Gansemer of north of Nehaw ka, and brought him the prize of $10. His entry was the Feder al seed corn of which the Warga Hardware store of this city is the dealer. There were six seed corn com panies represented at the show, the Pioneer Seed corn company by Herman Meisinger, the De Kalb corn company by Glen Wetenkamp, the Federal seed corn company by the Warga Hardware, the Griswold seed company, represented by Swa tek Hardware, the Funk seed corn company by Leonard Stoehr, local dealer, the Moems seed company by Curtis Faris of Murray. In addition to the corn show, there was displayed at the Korn Palace the exhibition by Sheriff Tom Solomon of equipment from his office, this showing many of the modern devices used in the law enforcement and which are to be found in the modern offices of enforcers. This included gas gun and shells, gas bombs to be used in emergencies, mirrors through which suspects may be watched unobserved and other equip ment that is found in cases of emergencies. In addition to this the office of Sheriff Solomon is equipped with a modern rescue ambulance and also a boat to be used in case of accidents at beaches or in the rivers. This display attracted a great deal of attention. Glaze Family Reunion Sept. 11th The annual reunion cf the members of the Glaze family was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Glaze on Sunday, September 11th at Plattsmouth. There were thrity-eight pres ent to enjoy the good dinner and the afternoon that was spent in visiting. Johnson, 79, well known to many of the old er residents of Plattsmouth. died on Wednesday at Minneap olis, where she has made her home for the past twelve years. Mrs. Johnson was the widow of James Edward Johnson, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Johnson, and during the lifetime of the parents was a very fre quent visitor in Plattsmouth. Mr. Johnson, who was in the train service of the Burlington was located at Lincoln for many years and died in that city some fifteen years ago. Since the death of the hus band, Mrs. Johnson has been at Minneapolis where her two daughters, Mrs. Dcnaia Bigneil and Mrs. Michael W. Cody have made their home. In addition to the two daughters she is sur vived by a granddaughter and a great-grandson. The funeral services wore held at Wadlows in Lincoln on Sat urday with Rev. J Moritz and son, Manfred, were vi.-hcrs at Elmhurst, Illinois, the past wce-K and where Manfred will enter the Elmhurst college fcr his freshman year. This is one of the well known colleges of the central wst and Manfred will take up the general course the first year. Rev. and Mrs. Moritz attend ed the Railroad Fair at Chicago, "Wheels A Rollin," and while there had the opportunity of writing a verse in the hand written bible that is being pre pared by the visiters at the fair, a great piece of work. Pfc. Virgil Shryock Now in Japan With the Eighth Army at Sap poro, Japan Private First Class Virgil Shryock, a member of the 31st Infantry regiment is presently stationed at Camp Crawford, Japan. Pfc. Shryock entered the Army September 17, 1D47 at Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Ke has served overseas for j the past seventeen months with the 31st Infantry regiment and is filling the duties of a cook in Company M, 31st Infantry regi ment. He was previously stationed at Seoul, Korea, and in December, 1C43, he accompanied the 31st Infantry regiment as it moved from Korea to Japan. Pfc. Frank Shryock is the sen of Mr. Shryock of Plattsmouth. WILL VISIT IN WEST Mrs. Ed Beins and sister, Mrs. Middleton, of Los Angeies. Cal., departed Thursday evening to visit A. L. Middleton in Wyom ing. From there they will go to Portland, Ore., where they will visit a brother, Ray Sampson and family. Mrs. Beins plans to visit with Mrs. Middleton at her home in Los Angeles.
