The final "e" in the name Al- buquerque, New Mexico, Is not silent. Plattsmouth Lady Given High Honor Mrs. A. E. Johnson of this city, past district president of the Rebekah order and past state manager of the girl's clubs for the state of Nebraska, of the Rebekahs, has just returned home from a week spent in South Dokata as a guest of the grand assembly of the Rebekahs. The meetings were held at j Sturgis and opened on last Sun day with a very large attend ance of the ladies from this part of the west. Mrs. Johnson was invited to participate in the organization meetings for the girl's clubs, the Theta Rho, that has been so very successful in Nebraska, and in whose organization Mrs. Johnson has had a large part. The meetings were most suc cessful in every way and the greatest interest shown by the subordinate lodges. While at Sturgis Mrs. John son and the ladies were guests of the Chamber of Commerce and given the opportunity of a tour of the Black Hills and its wonderful display of natural beauty and charm. Lightning Causes Much Excitement Thursday afternoon and early evening the lightning caused a great deal of excitement in this city and vicinity as the bolts struck in at least two place that have been reported. On Main street shortly after 5 o'clock Thursday afternoon the lightning struck the Ruse building at the corner of 6th and Main street, hitting the third floor of the building ovei Walt's market and as the re sult several bricks were dislog ed from the building and splin tered onto the sidewalk below. No one was injured but the shock was felt by many in the building especially those living near the scene. The lightning also struck a large barn at the Glenn Perry farm south of Plattsmouth, but fortunately did not cause a fire. Numerous cases of lightning striking trees and affecting tele phone lines were reported dur ing the night. ' : : 1 Circles of St. . Paul's Church Meet The circles of the' St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed church held their meetings on Tuesday, June 21st. Circle No. 1 met at the church parlors with Mrs. Fred Tschir ren and Mrs. Robert Tschirren as the hostesses. The devotions were given by Mrs. Orville Mul ler, her topic was, '"Budgeting for Peace." The members join ed in the singing of several hymns. There were fifteen mem bers and seven visitors present. At the close of the business meeting a social time was en joyed climaxed with the serving of refreshments. Circle No. 2 met at the home of Mrs. Frank Parkening wrho was assisted by Mrs. Ford Heim, as associate hostess. The devo tions were given by Mrs. P. A. Meisinger, on "One Humanity." At the close of the business ses sion a contest was given as a social activity. There were ten members and three visitors present. Refreshments were served at an appropriate hour by the hostesses. Circle No. 3 met at the home of Mrs. Joe J. Stibal with Miss Laura Meisinger and Mrs. E. P, Lutz as associate hostesses. The meeting was called to order by the chairman. Mrs. Fred Lugsch. The devotions were given by Mrs. Verner Kaffen berger. Several of the hymns were given in connection with the devotional message. There were 17 members and six visitors present. After the business of the meeting a contest was held and prizes awarded. Refresh ments were served by the host esses. 4-H CLUB MEETS The Cass County Feeders and the Nehawka Swine Club met at the home of Alice Noell Wednes day, June 15. The meeting was opened with the 4-H pledge. Tommy Johnson presided at the Feeder's meeting and the lesson on "Rope Halters" was given by Hall Pollard, leader. Peter Lutz presided at the Swine meeting and Margaret Ann Knabe, as sistant leader, gave the lesson on "Sanitation." James Pollard told about his trips to 4-H Club Week and Boys' State. Refresh ments were served by Mrs. Noell. This was the last regular meet ing for the club year. Achieve ment and the Club Tour will be July 24, with a picnic dinner for the member's families at the Tucker picnic ground and a tour to the homes of the members in the afternoon. Captain Conklin is stationed with thc American occupation forces. While in New York City Mrs. Conklin had the pleasure of see ing a former classmate at the Plattsmouth high school, Cadet Edward H. Gradoville of the U. S. Military Academy, who also sailed for Europe on June 23 as a part of the summer outing of the cadets.
