George and David have been winning several honors this spring. First it was the Sigma Tau Engineering awards to seniors and to juniors, then the Pi Mu Epsilon award in ma thematics, and just last week, two more honors came to them. George received a membership in Sigma Xi, for scientific schol arship, and George and David each won memberships in E a Kappa Mu Electrical Engineer ing fraternity . Week-end guests at the R. C. Porter home were Mrs. Porter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Stan ley, of Perry. Iowa. Susan Port er accompanied them home for a week's visit. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker, Sr., and their daughter, Mrs. Charles Hansen, went to Lin coln, Tuesday, tomake the ac quaintance of the two-months-old baby daughter, which the Warren Baker's have adopted. Guests at the W. L. Meyer home for commencement even ing and to attend graduation exercises were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Heneger, Mrs. Leila Fitzpatrick, Donna, Arline and Roy, Jr.. all of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer, of Avoca; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gade and daughter, D3 lores, Ashland; Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Rinehart, Lincoln; and Reginald Speak, Louisvillle. Miss Phyllis Bates, arrived home Monday from Hartford, Conn. She expects to spend a month with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Bates, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Spangler. She will be accom panied home by one of her schoolmates, who will remain here for the month. A letter from Mrs. Ralph Keckler says that she and Mr. Keckler are staying at the home of Mrs. George Towle, at 7215 Warin, Hollywood, Calif., and they have been enjoying visits with Mrs. Towle's daughters and sons-in-laws. They saw Mr. and Mrs. Bud Rector (Montes Sloan) in Richmond, Calif. They spent Easter week-end with their son, Richard, in San Francisco, and while there atteded a flower show at one of San Francisco's largest stores. From there they went to Portland, Ore., enjoying the wild flowers in that section of the country. The blue and yellow lupins were in lull bloom and the California poppies and the Skunk cabbage, the dog woods and red buds were also enjoyed. Mrs. Keckler and her sister had spent a day with Helen Wallick. and another day was spent at the Torrance Flem ming home, when Mrs. George Towle and her daughter, Mrs. Pauline Swan, and Mrs. Wallick were also guests, so they are en joying visits with former Weep ing Water friends who live in California. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bundy of Callaway, came by plane to Lin coln. Sunday morning, to at tend a- pilots' breakfast at th? Lincoln airport, where they were joined by their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Maxfield. After breakfast, Mrs. Maxfield and Mrs. Bundy drove to Weep- ing Water, while the two men i came by plane. All spent the I day at the home of Mrs. Max- field's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Rasmussen. Mr. Bundy is a nephew of Mr. Rasmussen. Mrs. I. L. Markland received a letter. The Barrett and the McNurlin families were weil known pioneer families in Cass county, and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved husband. Roy Cook came home from the Veterans hospital Sunday, for a two week's stay at home, after which he will return for further treatment. He is able to get out into the yard by the aid of crutches, to enjoy the fine spring weather. Latest report from Jack Hays, who is at the Veteran's hos pital, is that he is not improv ing as rapidly as had been hop ed that he would. If the weather is good, this next Sunday, many of our Weep ing Water people will be found at the hospitable home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Norris for the annual picnic dinner and after noon visit, to which all who at tend the Congregational church, have been invited each year, but the picnics has assumed such large proportions that it now in cludes all friends of the Norris families who want to pack their picnic baskets and spend a de lightful day on the Norris pic nic grounds. Mrs. Norris say3 "all of our friends are invited, this year." Clarence Norris joined a group of Avoca men, who left for a three-days fishing trip in Min nesota. They left Sunday even ing, expecting to return home Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wolcott. who are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Wolcott, ex pect to leave the latter part of the week for their new home at Huron, South Dakota, where Frank is an engineer for the Missouri-Oaho Irrigation pro ject'. . LeRoy Kirk, brother of Mrs. Frank Wolcott, of Grant, Neb., is a guest at the L. P. Wolcott home this week. Mrs. Ray Norris entertained the Avoca Garden Club, at her home Monday afternoon, when Mrs. William Baier and Mrs. Ernest Emshoff led the meeting and discussed the proper way to care for roses. Mrs. Addie Wells, of Camous. Wash., and her son, Harry Wells, of Stapleton, Neb., are expected to arrive here the latter part of the week. Mrs. Wells will make an extended visit at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dwight Cook, near Nehawka. and at Weeping Water. Mrs. J. M. Ranney went to Blair Wednesday, for a two-days visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lingo. Sizes Run Small Rutland, Vt. RECIPE OF THE WEEK Stuffed Spareribs (Serves 8) 2 sides spareribs 2 teaspoons salt 4 slices pineapple 8 cooked prunes, pitted 2 large apples, quartered '.4 cup brown sugar Place one side of spareribs on rack in open roasting pan. Sprin kle half the salt- over the meat. Arrange pineapple, prunes and apples over meat. Sprinkle sugar over fruit and place second side of spareribs on top. Sprinkle with remaining salt.
