THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE FOUR Thursday April 14, 1949 firot The Future Life (Easter). Easter Lesson for April 17: John 5:25; I Corinthians 15:20-26; II Corinthians 4:16, 5:1. Memory Selection: I Corin thians 15:20. The lesson text begins with, the . great statement that the hour comes when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God and live. The hope of eternal life had stirred men from remote antiquity. Since the Resur rection It has thrilled men with as surance. Death came through Adam's dis obedience, but in Christ all shall live. Christ has risen, we shall rise. At length the present order will cease in the swift passing of the world. The atomic bomb indicates that the utter destruction of the earth Is entirely possible. When the end comes, the cataclysm will not touch the unseen heaven. That blessed place will remain for the people of God. Let the Easter sea son bring the spiritual certainties of the other world nearer to all of us. Within his decaying earthly tab ernacle man himself may be re newed day by day until he puts his shining garments on to dwell with God evermore. The things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. Nothing ycu can see with the mortal . eye will endure. Only what you see with the eyes of faith will outlast the worlds. Everything worth while is an unseen thing. When our earthly house shall fall, we shall have a house not made with hands, eternal In the heavens. May the assurance of an eternal life of righteousness come to us anew this Easter, giving high purposes to the life which now is, and thrilling our hearts with sure hopes of a blessed future. FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH "The Church of the Lutheran Hour" C!eo Kautsch, Pastor Good Friday was a sad day for those who had placed their . . T.. -.v,; 1 u;- jrusL ill ttrsus luisi cii in iiio teachings. To feel their disap- pointment, listen to the conver- satjon Gf the two disciples in Luke 24, 21: " But we trusted that it had been he (Jesus) which should have redeemed Israel." However, all disappointments were gone as soon as the reality of the Resurrection of Jesus dawned upon them. Then they knew what Easter proves also to us: First, Jesus is what He claim ed to be, the Son of God and Savior. Second, what Jesus had taught about sin and salvation. about heaven and hell is true. Third , what He promised for the future about death, the resurrection of all the dead, and eternal life with Him for His believers and followers, is cer tain. If you agree that these are ample reasons for worshipping and serving Jesus, be sure to do so. Our church invites. 6:00 a. m. Sunrise Easter wor ship. 9:30 a. m. Easter Sunday wor ship. 10:30 a. m. Burlington Station Shows March of Time The Burlington passenger sta tion on east Main street is bear ing evidence of the inroads of time and neglect in the recent years. It was in the past, kept up as a very neat and attractive building, but as service has been gradually curtailed and traffic fallen away, the structure is no longer a very attractive place. Formerly the station had two good sized waiting rooms with the office portion of the build ing maintained in the center, but now the north waiting room has been denuded of the seats and is being arranged to handle freight and express. The wall at the south end of the building is in a very advanc ed stage of decay and may have to be be removed or replaced. Termites are also adding their part to the destruction of the structure. A great many years ago the representative of the Journal was asked by the Chamber of Commerce to check each morn ing, the number of people go ing to Omaha or other points, and the number of seats that were available. At that time twenty to fifty or larger was the usual haul of passengers. The facts as to the number travel ing, the seating capacity of the building, led the Burlington to build an addition on the north that more than doubled the seating facilities and made everybody happy, until war days and the growth of the motor vehicles. At this time a passeng er is a real rarity, partially due to the fact that there is no train service to Omaha or Lin coln on this line. The only scheduled train here is No. 6 that arrives in mid-morning headed for the east. The streamliner trains pass through this city at night but are not scheduled to make stops.
