Oehlerking A large crowd attended fun eral services of Henry Oehlerk ing on Thursday afternoon at the Evangelical United Breth ern church at Elmwood. Floral decorations were varied and beautiful. Music was furnished by Mrs. Orval Kuehn who play ed the instrumental numbers, and a men's quartette from Callahan church. Singers were Reuben Stock, Veron Rikli, War ren Rikli and Donald Rikli, with Mrs. Reuben Stock accompan ist. They sang "Face to Face," "Lead Me Gently Home" and "The Old Rugged Cross." The pastor. Rev. E. F. Haist. had charge of the services, as sisted by the District Suoerin tendent, Rev. W. G. Remboldt, of Lincoln. The pastor used as his text parts of the first chap ter of John, verses 36 to 39. He especially emphasized the in vitation "Come and see" and commended the life of the de ceased and his response to this call. He mentioned the fact that he ever wore a smile as he greeted his friends. Interment was in the Evan gelical United Brethren ceme tery near Louisville. Henry Fredrick Oehlerking, son of Henry Oehlerking and Magdalena Rueter, was born January 18, 1875 on his father's farm three miles east of Mur dock. He departed from this life on Sunday, February 13, 1949, at the age of 74 years and 26 days. Henry spent 64 years of his life on the same farm on which he was born: five years on a farm south of Elmwood and the past six years, following his re tirement, were spent in his home in Elmwood, Nebraska. On March 9, 1899, he was united in marriage to Bertha Fix. His wife, Bertha, aws hospit alized from 1906 until 1921 when she passed away. During the period from 1906 until 1911 his sisters, Martha and Marie, as sisted in the care of the home and in the care and training of his children. In 1911 his cous in, Bertha Bornemeier Kissing er, assisted in keeping the home. In 1912 the eldest daughter, Alma, took over the duties of the household. Alma being only 12 years old. Henry assisted in the household tasks and provid ed the counsel and guidance for his children which founded on his clear cut faith in God and Christian living, provided a fundamental background for the children's lives which will forever be a strength and sup- pon to tnem. He was always interested in good education and sent his children through high school, and modernized his home so that his daughters could have time to maintain the house hold and still receive their ed ucation. Early in life Henry dedicated his lile to God and regular at tendance at church and Sunday School were a part of the life of he and his children. He was a member of the Evangelical Church constantly and has held membership in the Emanuel, Ebenezer and Elmwood church es, belonging to the latter at the time of his death. On March 11, 1925, he was united in marriage to Mary Leddy Marshall and became the j stepfather of her six sons, ! Charles Marshall of Elmwood, J Harry of Beaver Creek, Oregon, I Ray of Phoenix, Arizona, Wil ! liam of Oakland, California, and Joseph and Omar of Can by, Oregon, all of whom have been proud to call him Dad. He was a good neighbor, never harbored hate, and made friends readily. No task was too difficult for him lo attempt and his ready smile gave him a key to the hearts of all who knew him. He held many posi tions of trust in the church and was county president of the Farmers Union for several years. He is survived by his wife, Mary, all of his children and stepsons, as well as ten grand children and one great grand daughter, two brothers, August Oehlerking of Elmwood and Rev. John Oehlerking of Daw son, and many other relatives and a host of friends. He was preseded in death by his two sisters, Martha Fleisch man, Marie Rosenow, an infant sister, two brothers, George and William and his father and mother. The example of his constant faith and trust in God and goodwill toward his fellowmen will be a comfort and guide to his family and all who knew him. Rr&. E. Wilcox is taking work at the University of Ne braska on Monday and Tuesday forenoons of each week. Mrs. Fred Schultz has moved into the home of Mrs. Moller for a time, awating the completion of the interior of her residence across the street. Miss Anna Seiker fell recently and broke a bone between her knee and ankle. Mrs. Fannie Frisbee is ill at her home. Her daughter Mrs. Coatman, of Alvo, has been stay ing with her. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Her father has been truobled with a lame back this week. Mrs. Chas. Wood fell on Wed nesday and broke her arm. Mrs. Wood now lives in Weeping Wa ter, but is a former resident here. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lashley are the parents of a son born Wed nesday, February 16, at Lincoln. Mrs. Dorothy Caygill Coatman returned on Tuesday from her visit in California with her par ents and other relatives. While there she entertained an attack of mumps. Bert Reber is now staying at the nursing home near Platts mouth. Mel Miller, his nephew, called on him, and reports that he is quite satisfied there. Mrs. Reber is spending some time visiting at the home of her daughter and family in Fergu son, near St. Louis, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hansen are the parents of a son born Febr. 15, at Lincoln. The mother was Evelyn Stubbendick. Mrs. Stov all is staying in the home, as the ' mother is a sister of her daugh ter-in-law. A new outbreak of mumps is here. Some of those having them this week are Clarice Hottle Krall, Jerry Bornemeier, and Lyle Buell. The latter is stay ing with his grandmother, Mrs. Lyle. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Tooker of Silver Creek visited their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Cook, and their little son, Robt. Jr. over the week-end.
