THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE TWO Thursday, February 10, 1949 I v ir T 1 V4 By REV. ROBERT H. HARPER Jesus Chooses the Twelve. Lesson for February 20: Mark 1:16-20; Luke 6:12-16. Memory Selection: John 15:16. The Twelve were called to their creat task. "Apostle" means one sent. The Apostles were trained for their p'ork in association with the Great Teacher. The Lord sent them out after he had spent a night in prayer. Let all who have part in sending men into fields of service of the Church seek counsel of God. The men chosen were of the mid dle class, plain and unlettered men. But, under the training of the Mas ter and empowered by the Spirit, they were able to "turn the world upside down," to begin a movement cf grace that has reached the ends cf earth. Men of courage, the most cf them suffered martyrdom. Only Judas betrayed his trust. Of different temperatments and rbiJitics, they were cne, with the exception of Judas, in loyalty to their Lrrd. Like the mighty men of David, cut to make him kins, the Apostles were out to nuke Jesus King. They at once answered the call, they left their all to follow him, and they never turned back. The pattern of their work may Forve preachers rnd teachers cf the present to have fellowship with Christ, preach his gospel, and cast out evil. The organization cf their work was left to them. It was theirs to form the church, and they estab lished it so well that the "gates of hC.l" have net prevailed against it, i. or ever will. The Church Invisible, rithered of the true believers cf ah Christina churches, Etiil needs men a:id women who are ready to be sent wherever Jesus wills. Are you rcacT? The Lesson-Sermon also in cludes the following passage j from the Christian Science text book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures' by Mary Baker Eddy, "A limitless Mind cannot proceed from physical ! limitations. Finiteness cannot present the idea or the vastness of infinity. A mind originating from a finite or material source must be limited and finite. In ' finite Mind is the creator, and ! creation is the infinite image or idea emanating from this Mind. If Mind is within and without all things, then all is Mind ; and this definition is scientific" (page 256). UNITED PRESBYTERIAN Murray, Nebraska i Roy P.
