Furse of the Journal, re ported on the drive for funds to secure new equipment for the court house clock that would remedy the unsafe con ditions that had made neces- . sary to stopping of the opera tion of the timepiece. He told of the many interesting person -I al responses and sentiments ex- pressed as to the clock and its operation. The . funds collected ! were being placed in the hands of the treasurer, Carl Schneid i er and when sufficient had 'been secured, a committee would administer the installa tion of the electrification of the clock. The response in a few days, all voluntary and unso licited, had been fine and show ed a great interest. Secretary Richard Peck, re ported on the matter of solici tors that had visited the city to secure authority to work over the city to secure funds for var ious projects especially schools and institutions. He cited spe cific cases and wanted it under stood that he was not giving the authority to anyone. The Blue Devils will have their first game in the East Ne braska Seven conference this week. They are playing Belle vue at that city on Tuesday eve ning. This should be a good fast game with both teams battling for their initial win in the con ference. It is expected that a large number of the local fans will be on hand to enjoy the game. The other volume is the recently published novel by Carl Sandburg, "Remembrance Rock." The Library will, of course, observe the coming holidays. MEMBERS AND GUESTS INVITED Hubert Babbitt Home from Auction School Hubert Babbitt has returned from Mason City Iowa, where he has been for the past few weeks attending the Reisch American School of Auctioneer ing, known as the world's larg est auctioneering school. Joe Rice is the head of the school and the students are given a very thorough course of in struction in this line of work. J. E. Halsey of Des Moines, Iowa, and Bert Powell, fieldmen for Capper's Weekly of Topeka, Kansas, were among those who assisted in ths work of the school. To show the wide reputation of the school there were 124 stu dents taking the courses at the time Hubert was attending, re presenting twenty - six states and one from the Dominion of Camda. The students received instruc tion in farm sales, real' estate and merchandise sale handling, as well as a thorough handling of this line of work. Mr. Babbitt is planning on going into the auction business as he has been greatly interest ed in this line since his return from service.
