The guests of honor were pre sented with a beautiful silver giit that will be treasured for , many yeais as a remembrance of the friends. Two beautiful decorated cakes 'were served during the evening. One p. three tired cake decorated in white and silver was baked by Mrs. Lester Meisinger, 'who rrrved as bridesmaid at the wed ding twenty-five years ago. The other, a lovely angel food decor ated in blue with a silver bell "was baked by Mrs. L. G. Ander ron of Omaha, a sister of Mrs. Rummel. Th? pvf-rinp was sornt in vis iting and playing cards and at a late hour delicious re freshments were served. HELEN EITING Book Reviews To Feature Fall Entertainment The Woman's Federation of the First Presbyterian church of the city is to sponsor a series of book reviews for the fall and winter season that will be a very cul tural addition to the community entertainment. . The members of the Federa tion are very happy to have the services of Beatrice Hoel Far rell, of Omaha, as the reviewer for the series. Mrs. Farell is well known to audiences in this sec tion of the state, last year gave several of her dramatic readings in this city and was an immense favorite with the audiences. The series this year will -open on October 12th with "Tobias Brandywine" by Dan Wickenden, as her offering. It is the delight ful and humorous story of a lov able little man who endeared himself to an interesting Ameri can family. It is entertaining, amusing and thoroughly whole some. The second review of Mrs. Farrcll will be on November 9th, 'Cry the Beloved Country", by Alan Paton, a powerful unusual book about a ' Zulu pastor in South Africa. It is beautifully written with a strong spiritual message. The last of the series will be cn December 14th with "The Haunted Bookshop" by Chris topher Morely, a charming se quel to Morley's "Parnassus on Wheels'. "The Bookshop" is an exciting mystery mel odrama with lots of whimsical humor and delightful characterizations. It is completely wholesome, and recommended for the entire family. The "Haunted Bookshop" was first published in 1917 and has been a first seller ever since. Mrs. Farrell gives her readings appearing in costume to corre pond with the book review. The ladies of the federation are now conducting the ticket sale for the series and Mrs. T. I. Friest is the chairman of the committee in charge of the series of reviews. Weeping Water Classes Elect ! Tuesday, September 28 The Good Cause Kensington will meet at the I.O.O.F. hall on Tuesday evening, September 23 at 8 o'clock. Walking Hobby of Veteran Attorney Attorney D. O. Dwycr 9 weeping water, wnn nis wile and law partner, Mrs. W. L. Dwyer, was in the city Monday to look after some matters in the compensation court. Mr. Dwycr is approaching eighty-three years of age and is active and alert for his years, and on the ball in his law prac tice. One of the reasons that Mr. Dwyer ascribes for his excellent physical condition is the prac tice he has made in the past years of taking long walks each day. While a resident of Platts mouth, he started the early morning- and late evening walks that covered from a rnile to three miles a day. He has kept this up and in the evenings, can be found enjoying these strolls along the streets of Weeping Water. Mr. Dwyer is the dean of the Cass county bar, being admitted to the practice of law here in 1890. He is the last of the lawyers of his time that embraced Matthew Gering, Byron 'Clark, Judge Jesse L. Root, Judge S. M. Chapman and others of the legal great of their day. Mrs. Warner Home From Springs Mrs. Wallace Warner, who has been taking treatment and the baths at Excelsior Springs, Mis souri, is home and feeling much improved in health as the result of the treatment. Mr. Warner drove to the Missouri resort Fri day to return with the wife and both had a most pleasant trip in the -pleasant autumn weather. Mr. Warner is expecting to make a trip to the Springs later for a, course of treatments. Fred Warren Here From California Fred J. Warren of Oaklcad, California, is in the city this' week for a visit with his mother, Mrs. F. E. Warren and his sisters, Mrs. Leo Boynton and Mrs. Richard Beverage, as well as the many friends. This is the first visit in recent years in the old home and the occasion has been most pleasant to the family and the old friends. The choir, thirty-five voices, were here for the 10 o' clock mass at the church:. The chcir was composed large ly of university students and was under the direction of Bob Parks, who is majoring in music at the University and has an ac tive part in the musical depart ment. He is also a member of the University glee club. Kath eiine Gillespie was at the console of the organ for the services. 'Following the mass th? mem bers of the Lincoln choir and the members of the Holy Rosary choir had luncheon at the Holy Rosary hall. There was a very large con gregation present at the mass and to enjoy the opportunity of hearing this array of fine voices. Bates was a C'lest at the home of her niece Mrs. Joe Manasek and Mr. Man asek, in Omaha, where she was invited to help Beverly Jean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mana sek observe her fifth birthday anniversary. In the afternoon fifteen little friends of Beverly were in attendance at a party in her honor. Games were played and Beverly received many love ly gifts.
