No. 778 June 17, 24, July 1, 1948 Local People at Church Conference Park College, Parkville, Mo., was host during the week of June 22-25, to a conference of more than a hundred fifty leaders of the Women's Guild of the Evan gelical and Reformed Church from various parts of the country, especially the middle west. Working under the general program theme "One in the Bond of Peace" the delegates devoted themselvevs in a four day ses sion to a s'tudy of the areas where Christian women can work for world peace. Study groups on 'China in the Asia of Today, "America's Geographical Front iers" "Christian Leadership," "Christian Citizenship," "Pro gram Building," and "Worship Methods," were taught by re cognized leaders in the denomi nation. Of special interest was a workshop on the use of audio visual aids in building programs in a women's organization. Dr. John Biegeleiscn, profes sor of New Testament at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis was the leader of the ess'embly periods' and Dr. David D, Baker, editor of THE MESSENGER, the denominational paper, also of St. Louis, gave the main address on the relief and rehabilitation needs of the world. Two relief projects for 1949 were headlined for the women of the Evangelical and Reformed Church the providing of 10.000 layetts for niewborn babies overseas and the donation of embroidery floss' and bright colored wool for the use of Hun garian women who earn their liv ing by doing peasant embroidery and who have been unable to obtain the needed materials. The following people from Plattsmouth attended: Mrs. Olga Storm, Mrs. Sophia Short. merry workers clvc The Merry Workers club held their picnic at Steinhart park, Nebraska City, on Sunday, June 27. A most delicious dinner was prepared and served at the noon hour. The afternoon was spent in visiting, ball games, fishing and swimming. Mrs. Glen Caracal news reporter FUNNY BUSINESS I "No gas just the Weeping Water Church Group Hold Banquet Tne Woman's Association of the Congregational church, of Weeping Water held their an nual Mother-Daughter luncheon Wednesday, June 23, in the din ing room of the church with 126 guests present to en joy the afternoon with them. The dining room was gay with pastel colored birds' hanging from the ceiling, small birds perched on the water glasses, and an abund ance of g-zy flowers on the tables. Mrs. Murray Mutter was in charge of the decorations; Mrs. John C. Pryor, was chairman of I the program committee, and Mrs. I Homer Jamesen in charge of the Luncheon. Mrs. Ben Olive an nounced the program. Mrs. L. P. Wolcott gave the welcome for the mothers, and Gertrude Olive responded for the daughters. There were songs by the younger daughters, a piano duet by Mrs. Carl Day and Miss Esther Tefft; A piano solo by Mary Domingo, and the guest speaker, Mrs'. Ras che Mever. of Lincoln, who kept the audience enraptured by her rendition of poems from her scr.ap book. The oldest mother present was Mrs. Mary Blaikie, 89. The youngest mother was Mrs. Lynn Parson. The youngest baby was Barbara Allyn. daughter of Mrs'. Arthur Stimpson. Mrs. George Ellis had the most daughters present. They were Mrs. Victor Wallick, Mrs. Bonnie Ellis and Miss Katherine Ellis, and one granddaughter. Patty LaRue. Mrs. Fred Gorder entertained seven guests at the luncheon. They were Mrs. A. J. Tool, of Murdock; Mrs. Turner McKinnon, Alvo; Miss Patricia Tool, Denver; Mrs. William Baier, Avoca; Mrs. Roy Zessin, Mrs. T. H. Hanlan and Mrs. S. H. Harmon, of Weep ing Water. Mrs. Charles Spohn had as her out of town guests. Mayfield of Louisville were in Platts mouth on Tuesday to look after s'ome matters of business and visiting with old friends. Mr. Mayfield was for many years pub lisher and editor of the Louis ville Courier and while retired from the newspaper activities, still retains a great deal of in terest in this line of activity. While here Mr. Mayfield was a caller at the Journal for " a few minutes. While in the city Mr. and Mrs'. Mayfield had the pleasure of a visit with Charles' Bestor, who for several seasons has been en joying the winters at Corpus! Chfisti, Tex where the May fields also have enjoyed the winter outing.
