THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRSAKA, JOURNAL PAGE FOUR Thursday, June 17, 1943 Annua! Meet of First Church Christ,. Scientist BOSTON, Mass. Declaring that democratic government is the instrument through wheih an irresistible, spiriutal force is being channleed into hte affairs of men, The Christian Science Board of Directors urged Christ ain Scientists, in annual meeting to wcrk strongly and actively for the defense of free govern ments throughout the world. Rightly conceived, hie Direc tors told the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, demo cratic government is something more than an aggregation of leg islative cts and legalized rules of conduct. '"It is an orderly unfoldment of the moral character and spir itual integrity of its citizens," the spokesmen for the world wide Christian Science move ment affirmed. As such, they merits active defense of its sac red purpose, in addition to the pious declarations of allegiance to its outer form. Thousands of Christian Scien tists from many parts of the world heard the Directors issue a distinct challenge to the proud, boastful "Goliaths of today, as they go to and iVo in the earth. Denying God, they are denying their own life, for God is the only life of man," they stated. In free governments, now seri ously endangered by the modern Goliaths, the Directors comment ed, there is a force that gathers its strength from "the same eter nal truth given by Christ Jesus in his peerless Sermon on the Mount." Ultimately it shall be seen, they said, that "no indi vidual or nation on earth can withstand the power and pres ence of God and His Christ." The Directors' statement high lighted a series of aers and re orts made to the Annual Meet ing. Set against the background of the great Mother Church dome and the Church park resplendent with mid-Spring blooms, the re ports stressed the renaissance of religious activities throughout the postwar world, and reempha sized the privileges of free as sembly and freedom of worship as the human symbols of "spirit ual freedom." With the warnings of serious dangers to democratic govern ment, the Directors also gave as surance that the antagonists of free government, like the Goliaths of old, were merely "inviting their own doom." The Israelites of old were faced with similar problems, the Di rectors continued . Confronted with seeming extremination by th eoverwhelming armies of the Philistines, who sent forth Go liath to intimidate them, they did not quail, the statement said. Did Goliath succeed in defying the armies of the living God? No! "He fell a victim of his own false trust. The Christ, Truth, guided the hand of the shepherd boy, and the emeny was slain through David's absolute trust in the power of God." Joyce Fauquet Wins State Art Honor Joyfce Fauquet, daughter of County Judge and Mrs. Paul E.
