The Omaha Chamber of Commerce river developement committee cf the chamber has taken a strong stand against the proposal. The sale of the barge lines has also brought opposition from the local Missouri river boosters, two of whom, T. H. Pollock and Mayor Woster were at St. Louis recently to attend a large meet ing of the Missouri valley resi dents. , Strong oposition to the sale of Federal Barge Lines at this time came Monday from the Chamber of Commerce River De velopment Committee. April 1, 1948 and those points was sent to the Chamber directors for official ac tion. The Overton bill would increase Inland capitalization from 15 miliicn dollars to 33 millions. That would be the first step in getting money to modernize the line and provide special Missouri River equipment. The step would be getting the appropri ation. By its action, the Chamber ' committee opposed two bills introduced by Representative Wolverton (Rep., N. J.). One bill would dispose of the lines in an installment purchase, the other in a cash sale. Most cf the Chamber group members talked against approv- , amendments had been discussed with Omahans by Representa tive Dolliver (Rep. Iowal. Harry Trustin, committee chairman who drew the praise of Dock Board Chairman Henry i n r s 1, B. McCamobell lcr -lis work, said he did not bind the commit tee to agreement with the Dol liver proposals.
