Mr. Eagley, stepfather of Dr. Totman, died in Bryan Memorial hospital and was buried in Lin coln Thursday of last week. The Eastern Star ladies met with Mrs. Emily Gonzales with twelve ladies present. They de cided to make a quilt for the Heme. Also to send valentines to cheer their sick members. Mrs. Hattie Liston is quite ill at the Bryan Memorial hospital in Lincoln. She has been a suf ferer for some time. Mr. Nolan HottLs? and Mr. Ed Earpst attended the Farmers Union convention lit Omaha last week. '--. Mrs. Grace Plytfon returned on Thursday evening from California after a three weeks trip. Verle Kuehn's body is expect ed to arrive in Lincoln now any time. ' He was formerly an Elm wood boy and was killed during the early part of the Pacific cam paign. Dr. O. E. Liston took a few days vacation at his sister's' heme, Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds, at Lane, Kansas. Mrs. Amos March visited her mother. Mrs. Laura Sutherland, a few days last week. Cel. Verle Morgan, of Wash ington, D. C, was in Elmwood visiting old friends as he was formerly from here, and is now stationed at the Walter Reed hospital in that city. Roll Miller, who has been ill the past few weeks has gene to the clinic at Lincoln. It is hoped he will receive great help. Lodge Ccygill of California, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Waltz, of Lin coln, Mrs. Lizzie Barrett of Can ada, and Mr. Albert Waltz of Ft. Morgan, Colo. These people were former Elmwood resi dents and are well known here, afternoon of last week. Miss Helen Ahrensmeier spent Sunday afternoon and night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bornemeier. Mrs. Will Strabel had quite a severe sick spell but is nicely improving at the present time. Miss Joann McNight and Mr. Richard Weekly were married last Sunday evening at 7 o'clock in Grace Methodist church at Nebraska City. Miss Francis Ar nold of Elmwood furnished the vocal music for this event. Miss McNight is a. cousin of Mrs. Charles Miller. Mr. Watson Jones started to Oklahoma City on a throe day business trip on Monday of this week. His daughter. Ramona. is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Her man during his absence. The Royal Neighbors met with Mrs. Emily Gonzales on Friday Glad to report that Miss Doris Taylor of Alvo is gradually im proving from her recent auto accident. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Brown and two children were Sunday Quests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Brown. ; Friends regret to hear of the death of Mrs. Cluck of Scotts bluff Nebr. She was foinierly Tina Barrett of the E'mwood community. Mr. and Mrs. Mint Wood are tack home again. Mr. Wood has been taking treatments in a Lin coln hospital. Mr. Wilken, who has been quite ill for some time, great ly improved. Mrs. Frank Buell is greatly improved but will be in the hos pital yet for at least a couple of weeks. The young people of the Meth odist church met Sunday eve for the purpose of organizing- an Epworth League. The male numbers of the Methodist church are preparing to do a paint iob in the interior of their church. The Eastern Star Kensington are meeting at the home of Mrs. Emily Gonzales Tuesday after, noon. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Gonzales and Mrs. Emily Gonzales called on Mrs. John Gonzales at the hospital Sunday afternoon. She remains quite ill. It is reported that the Dist trict basetball tournament will be held again at Elmwood. The majority of the schoo's in the district voted the meeting to be ! held here. Mrs. Pete Nickel is improving from the effects of her fall a week ago. Mr. Mel Miller and Orval Mil ler motored to Omaha Monday to attend the Farmer's Union meeting being held there this week. Cfacaz Mrj. Henry Maseman Mrs. Albert Ccrr and Mrs. Martha Rug-? were hostesses to the Woman's Club Wednesday. Mrs. Paul Wolph led the dis cussion group with Mrs. Robert Hallstrom, Lcrcna Stubbendick and Miss Joan Place assisting. Josephine and Deloris Meyer and Anne Marquardt sen? "On ward Christian Soldiers." There was also group singing. Herman Bredencamp moved Thursday to the Clara Ruhga farm near town recently z :ated by J. A. Ruhge. George Ludwig 0f Lincoln was in town one day last week. He and Mrs. Ludwig have been stay ing at the Albert Kirkhoff home while Mrs. Kirkhoff was at the hoso'tal. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marquardt rid Mrs. Caroline Marquardt made a business trip to Utica Wednesday to look after their farm where the large machine shed burned recently. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Kristy, who are now making their home at Utica. Mrs. Kristy is the former Mintr. Beccord. Gus Dunkah, phoenix, Arizo na, Mrs. Lovd Jacobsen. Merna, Nebr., and Mrs. Louis Bickford of Gardenia, California were called here by the death of their father, Dick Bohlman. Miss Lorena Stubbendick had chrge cf services at the Con- i gregutional church Sunday morning, February 22. Rev. Val Johnson of Elmwood conducted the Lenten services Friday eve ning, assisted by Miss Stubben dick. Henry Smith has been sick with the flu. Mr. and Mrs. John Mohr moved into the Laura Stovall house Monday. Mrs. Stovall moved to Elmwood Tuesday. J. H. F. Ruhge has taken over the janitor job at the school. Dr. Brendel received word of the death of Mrs. Onis Brendel in Indiana after a years illness. She is survived by her husband, Onis and one son. A group of relatives went to help Kenneth Wessel celebrate his birthdr.y Tuesday. Clyde Pummell went to Smith field, Nebr. Thursday to get a combine.
