Sheriff Office to Give Warnings 'The Nebraska Safety Patrol and the local sheriff's office will begin issuing- warning tickets to motorists found driving on ther 1947 license plates after the 15th of this month. The. deadline for purchasing of the 1948 plates was February 1, 1948, but due to the fact that larger counties were unable to issue plates that fast this year enforcement was held off. The biggest majority of the Cass County car opera tors have already purchased their 1948 plates. It has been re ported to the sheriff's office that some persons living along the Caas-Otoe line but still in Cass County have purchased their li cense plates in Otoe County this year. Vehicles must display both rear and front plates ijt 'was found that some people are op erating two different vehicles on one set of plates. Driver's license tests are held in the Cass County court house on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. The next test is this coming Saturday, which is Feb ruary 14, 1948 . MUTUAL FINANCE tan help you pay: Blanket Tax Sought for Rural Schools The Nebraska State Rural School Boards association, Thurs day, at Norfolk, approved a blank- ket tax plan to reduce, school taxes in many rural districts and make those without schools to i pay a share in the cost of edu cation. The plan, presented by Associ ation President Alfred V. Gabel man of Madison, also is offered to prevent introduction of a new re-districting bill in the next leg islature. This plan is to be of fered to the legislature. Gabelman's proposal calls for a four mill levy on all rural school districts in the state. All of the money would be kept within the county where it is raised. Districts with six or more pupils would pet back the taxes raised by the levy to be used with additional tax monev raised to operate their schools. Districts with less than six pupils would contract with neighboring dis tricts for instruction on a cost per pupil basis. Under the plans schools with less than six pupils who wished to have their own schools would not be eligible to taxes raised by the four mill levy but would get back taxes raised by the levy to be used with additional tax money raised to operate their schools. Gabelman told the association Nebraska now has 208 rural dis tricts without schools and in 1945 there were 947 with five pupils or less. The association also adopted a resolution favoring an eight cent a mile allowance for county sup erintendents travel, and another permitting schools to adjust their curricula to meet student needs. Art Ulrich cf Hoskins , vice president; and Theodore Witt of Pender, secretary-treasurer, were relected.
