Dy Connie Osburn Mr. Henry Hansen of Green wood was struck by a westbound Burlington passenger train Sat urday at 5:11 P. M. and was fa tally injured. Mr. Hansen had been making his home with his sister, Mrs. Louise Anderson of Greenwood. Other relatives in this community are Mrs. Emma Apphun, sister: Mrs. Everctte Cape and Mrs. Lillian Jardine, nieces. Mr. Hanson alno had one son, Ralph, of California. Mrs. George Rouse was host ess at a Stanley party Wednes day afternoon. Twelve ladies w re present and a very enjoy able afUrnoon was spent by all. Mrs. Clinton Green was shop ping in Lincoln Monday and Wednesday. Mrs. Joe Kyles spent Satur day and Sunday in Lincoln at the Elton Keller home. Mis. Claude Osburn and Mrs. D. E. Buckingham were shop ping in Lincoln Saturday. A miscellaneous shower was given in honor of Mrs. John Grady nee (Maxine Hurlbut) at the Methodist church on Mon day, Dec. 1. There was a very large group present and Mrs. Grady received many ' lovely gifts. Hostesses were Mrs. D. S. Sacca, Mrs. Kneet and Mrs. Lloyd Grady. The M.W.M. club met Thurs day afternoon with Mrs. Clara Urackaga. The Dorcas Society of the Cr4rjstian church will hold their annual Christmas party Friday, Dec. 12. It will be a one o'clock luncheon and an exchange of Lifts. Mr. and Mrs. Gayl Walters and family fo Ceresco, Nebr. were Sunday afternoon and supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Rouse and Larry. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wright spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Osburn and Rodger. The Happy Homemakcrs club will have a family Christmas party at the Legion hall, Dec. 14. Mothers are to bring a 25 cent gift for each of her children. Mrs. John Agena entertained a group of young people in hon or of Wayne Agenas birthday, Wednesday night at the Legion hall. Mrs. Agena served a very delicious lunch which consisted of angel food cake, jello and poo. Wayne received many nice ylfts. Professor A. H. Harding of Brookings, South Dakota, was a dinner guest of Dr. and Mrs. N. D. Talcott Saturday. Mr. Hard ing and Dr. Talcott were form er schoolmates. Miss Evelyn Gradv celebrated her 10th birthday .Friday. She treated the pupils and. teacher at her school. ' Miss Margaret Greer suffered a partial stroke Friday. Her right side was affected. She is not seriously ill, but was taken to Bailey's Sanitarium for care. P v. and Mrs. M. M. Pigg of Fremont called on Dr. and Mrs. N. D. Talcott Monday morning. Mrs. Pigg remained until Wed nesday and Mr. Pigg drove on to Omaha where he was to conduct a meeting. Rev. Pigg is minister o the First Christian Church in Fremont. Mrs. Pif is a niece of Mrs. Talcott. Mrs. Elmer Leadabrand, Mrs. A. J. Leadabrand. Mrs. Johnny Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Howard spent Friday evening at the Clinton Green home. The ladies made candy for the bazaar at the Methodist Church. Union Mrs. L. G. Todd The Junior Class play was i eiven at Hanninps hall last Fri day night. There was a fair crowd due to bad roads - and changing of dates. The play, "Aunt Emily Sees It Through" was a very amusing- plot and the students did their part well. Those in the cast were Mary Lou Ervin, Gertrude True, Phyllis Grunwald, Harold Fahrlander, Wayne Bennett, Bill Crawford, and Gene Klein. Dorthy Mae Schanot and Nan cy Kay Todd were taken to Lin coln by their mothers last Sat urday morning where thev soent the week end visiting relatives. They were very busy indeed those two- days with visiting Santa, shopping, shows and of course the first train ride for Nancy Kay gave her quite a thrill. Miss Vivian Meisinger spent the week end visiting in the home of a sister and her family who live in Waverly. The Flu bug has been keeping many of the pupils from school the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Sanford, Miss Vivian Meisinger and Mrs. Todd were guests of Miss Dorothy Dunn and Nancy Anthony last Friday evening after the show. The W.S.CS. of the Methodist Church met at the church last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Vita Snodgrass was hostess. Carnicle from Lauretta Carnicle. The voluntary appearance of the de fendant was entered in the case. The parties were married at Camp Carson, Colorado, May 24, 1943. In the county court Tuesday morning a hearing was had on a complaint charging Jewell Nichols with operating a motor vehicle while under the influ ence of liquor. The case was the outgrowth of an accident Mon day evening in which a car driven by Nichols was involved. Deputy Sheriff Shrader Rhoden was called to Weeping Water Monday where the defendant was apprc-hendecl'on a complaint signed by Marshal Rookstoul and John Meade. The defendant made a plea of guilty to the charge and was given a fine of $50 and costs and had his driv er's license suspended for a thir ty day period. Upton. lmwjood Mrs. Grart l,bon Rev. and Mrs. Val Johnson motored to southern Kansas on Tuesday, because of the illness of Mrs. Johnson's mother. Mr. Johnson will return home on Saturday, but his wife plans to be in Kansas until after Christ mas. Mrs. Earl Horton reviewed the book "The Bishop's Mantle" by Agnes Slight Turnbull, for the December meeting of the W.S. C.S. at Eagle. Elmwood basketball team has won two games recently, the first with Alvo and on Friday night the bells pealed out tell ing of the victory over the Pal myra team. The first Christmas afternoon party was held on Friday, Dec. 5, by the Royal Neighbors at the home of Mrs. Emily Gon zales. A one o'clock luncheon, a Christmas tree and other decor ations with exchange of gifts made it a pleasant affair. Mrs. Watson Jones had an ap pendectomy at Bryan Memorial hospital last Saturday. She is reported doing well. The choir members and others who can, are practicing each Monday evening for the contata to be given Sunday, Dec. 21, un der the capable leadership of Mrs. Willard Clapp. Mrs. Clapp has sung in different Lincoln churches for a number of years. Among' the Lincoln shoppers on the sunshiny Monday of this week were Mrs. L. Hollenbeck, Mrs. Nettie Mendenhall, Mrs. Cora Gerbeling, Mrs. Plybon, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fool and Mrs. Eveland. The sale of household goods at the Dreamer residence on Sat uray, Dec. 6 was well attended. Mr. Lacy of Avcca was the auc tioneer, and Leonard Dreamer of Lincoln the manager. This pro perty has been vacant for sev eral years, as Mrs. C. Dreamer, owner, is living with her daugh ter, Mrs. Harry Liefert near Palmyra. It is to be rented in the near future .however. County Attorney Walter II. Smith was at Lincoln Monday where he was called to look af ter some matters of business, trying a case in the district court. Mr. and Mrs. Art Johanns and Mrs. C. J.
