W ' THE PLATTSMOUTH, PAGE TWO NEBRASKA, JOURNAL Monday, December 1, 1947 Society Personal DY TIIELMA OLSON DIAL 241 Birthday of Aged Ladies The American Legion hall at Union was the scene of a very pleasant birthday party Thurs day that honored Mrs. Jane Sheard. 82, and her sister, Mrs. Cora Comer, CO, of Alma, Ne braska who arrived for a visit. The day before the annivers aries Mrs. George Polas of Un ion, a granddaughter, made the arrangements for the hall to ac commodate the large number that was expected. The guests of honor had a pleasant surprise afforded when a large angel food cake from Edward and Hazel Sheard, ar rived from Modale. Iowa. The members of the group joined in singing '"Happy Birth day'' to Grandma Sheard and her sister. All had a wonderful time and it will long be remembered by all. Those who attended were. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gillespie and sons, of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gillespie and son, Om aha. Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Sheard of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Max Taylor and daughter of Council Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Lanson Walters and family of Ashland, Mr. and Mrs. Amy Betts and family of Nebraska City, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Polas of .Auburn, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Sheard of j Murray, and daughter Mrs. Em ma Gillispie of Nebraska City, Mr. and Mrs. John Sheard and sons of Plattsmouth, Mr. nd Mrs. George Polas and daughter of Union. . There was one son, Edward Sheard of Modale, Iowa, who could not attend and one daugh ter, Mrs. George Polas of Ne hawka, unable to be here on ac count of sickness. Two grand children, John Sheard, Jr., of Omaha and Marjorie Sheard of California were unable to attend. Quality Counts! The two young men are sta tioned at Chanutc Field, Illinois in the Air Forces and like their line of service very much. Holiday Takes Many People Out of Town Thanksgiving Day saw many Plattsmouth families in other cities and communities. Mr. and Mrs. Ward Schade, went to Bart lett, Iowa to join in a family gathering at the home of her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Aitken. Mr. ap dMrs. Carl Ohlschlager and daughter, Mary Alice, ac companied by Mrs. Florence Coleman, Elbert Snodgrass and Mrs. Elizabeth Cavender, were in Omaha at the M. P. Schulz home. Attorney and Mrs. Richard Peck were at Falls City with his mother, Mrs. Ella Peck. His two brothers and families were also present at the gathering. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Abrams were at the home of a niece in Wood bine, Iowa. Mrs. Frank Lillic and son. War ren and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lillie and daughter, Rita went tf- Shenandoah, Iowa to be with Mr. and Mrs. Justice Lillie. Mr. and Mrs. John E. Car mack were guests of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Hooper of Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Sothan and son, Charles were in Ashland at the home.of Mr. Sothan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Denune. Mr. and Mrs. Long and Billy were in Lincoln at the home of J Mr. and Mrs. William Christop her son. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Holmes and Mrs. W. E. Hickey attended the church dinner in Union and visit ed with friends afterwards. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Williamson and sons, Darrell and John were in Seward and Lincoln to visit with relatives. Have Tonsil Operations Patty Ann and Nancy Sue Konfrst underwent tonsillecto mies in an Omaha hospital re cently. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Konfrst were with them and stayed overnight in Omaha to bring them home the day following the operations. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Spangler of Murray were in the city Fri day where they spent some time looking after business matters. The visitors, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stiner, were in Nebraska to at tend the Nebraska-Oregon State football game Saturday. Mr. Sti ner is a brother of Coach Lon Stiner of the Oregon team. From here the Stiners went to Omaha to visit two other brothers and to Hastings to visit another one. All five brothers planned to be at the game. Jchanns Entertain at Family Gathering Out-of-town guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Jo hanns on Thanksgiving day in cluded Mrs. Ernest Wallengren of Sheridan, Wyoming and her daughter, Elaine, who is attend ing school at Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Rhylandcr and Rudolph Wallengren, Lincoln, and Charles Anthes who came from Clay Center, Nebraska. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Rhylander, Clayton and Jeanette and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rhylander and Kenny. Ladies' Aid Meets The Ladies Aid of the Christ Lutheran church met Wednesday afternoon in the church parlors. Program numbers included a piano solo by Ronnie Schneider and a short talk by Dr. Lentz who used as his topic,. "Thanks giving." Hostesses were Mrs. Otto Schafer and Mrs. Arthur Hild. Miss Grace Iloman 111 Mrs. P. Y. McFetridge return ed last weekend from Crcston, Iowa where she was called by the serious illness of her sister, Miss Grace Homaa A brother, C. A. Homan returned last Mon day after a three-day visit in Crcston. Miss Joan Gradoville came j home Wednesday night to visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gradoville. Joan is in nurses training at the University hos pital, Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Abrams are j spending the concluding week of their vacation in Lincoln and i Dorchester, Nebraska. Dinner guests Friday of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Schade were R. H. Morrison of Randolph, Iowa and his son and family Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Morrison and son of Springfield, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schneider and son, Ronnie, were in Lin coln Saturday to attend the Nebraska-Oregon State football game. A family dinner Thanksgiving day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Wagner included Mrs. Nora Rose, Harold Gaines and son, Frank, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Anderson of Omaha, Albert Gaines, Waterloo, Nebraska and George and Robert Schcffsick of Alliance. Ronnie Donat of Omaha en joyed the holidays last week visiting at the Henry Donat home. Double Wedding Of Young People Announcement is made of the double wedding cf four of the well known young people of the Union and Nebraska City area Miss Lois Margaret Clary, daughter of Mrs. Mary Clary of Nebraska City, became the bride of Darrell Albert Gruber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Gruber, of Union, and Miss Marcella Mae Gruber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Gruber, was wed to Earl Harold Cheney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cheney, of Om aha. The double wedding ceremony was performed at Logan, Iowa, by the Rev. E. T. Lewis, pastor of the Christian church, Sunday, November 9th. Miss Gruber wore a gray suit with green accessories and Mrs. Cheney was attired in a white gabardine suit with green acces sories. Both had corsages of red rose buds. Mrs. Gruber is a graduate of the Nebraska City high school with the class of 1944, and is in the employe of the Otoe Food Products Co. Her husband is a graduate of the Union high school, and spent three- years in the merchant marine. He is em ployed at Western Electric, Lin coln. Miss Cheney attended Union high school and graduated from the Nebraska City high school in 1943. She is working at Otoe Foods. Mr. Cheney is a driver for the Red Ball Transfer of Omaha. They will make their home at Nebraska City until after the first of the year. Calendar j Mr. and Mrs. George Rothrock and son, Charles departed Sat urday morning for their home in Overland Park, Kansas. They had been visiting here with Mrs.J Rothrock's sister, Mrs. Edward M. Egenberger and family. Here From West Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cross, of Redding, California, arrived in the city Thursday to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Co vert, parents of Mrs. Cross. They left Sunday for the re turn to the west coast and en route will stop at Mecca, Cali fornia, for a visit there at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Todd, the latter a sister of Mrs. Cross. Old friends here will be interest ed in learning that Mrs. Todd is showing much improvement in health. To Veterans Hospital Members of the St. Luke's Wo men's Auxiliary will assist at the Veterans hospital in Lin coln on Wednesday of this week. Monday, December 2 Plattsmouth Woman's club will meet Monday at 8:00 p. m. with Mrs. Louis Hansen. Plattsmouth School Board will meet at 8:00 p. m. Monday in high school building. AF & AM No. 6 will meet Monday night. Sunnyside Farm Bureau unit to meet Thursday night at home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Warner. Robertson's At Old Home The members of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. James M. Robertson were in Plattsmouth Saturday and Sunday for the first time in several months to enjoy a reunion of the members who reside in thjs part of the state Miss Jessie Robertson, who is the librarian at the U. S. Vet erans hospital at Lincoln, is here for a leave and is at the home of her sister, Mrs. Blanch Gam er, where is also William' Gray Robertson, a nephew, of Lincoln. Mrs. Helen Gray Robertson is here and is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Evers. Dr. and Mrs. R. P. Westover of Omaha, arrived Saturday in company with their daughter, Miss Ruth Westover, teacher in the schools at Estes Park, Colorado, who has a holiday vacation at home. j BIRTHS ! Vern Hendricks visited last week in Auburn with his uncle, Floyd Chalfant who was serious ly injured several weeks ago when he fell from a scaffolding. Mr. Chalfant is showing some improvement. Mr. and Mrs. Tim Woster and daughters, Alice and Mary Ellen were in Omaha for the Thurs day holiday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. A. G. Sindelar. Kansas Visitors At Furse Home Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Policy, of Republic, Kansas, arrived Wed nesday for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Ronald R. Furse of the Journal and family. They arc parents of Mrs. Furse. They will enjoy a visit here with the relatives and later ex pect to go on east to Decorah. Iowa, where they will visit an other daughter, Mrs .George Kjome and family before re turning to the home in Kansas. TAKEN TO HOSPITAL Mr. and Mrs. Donald Born took their six-year-old daughter, Ellen Kay to the Methodist hos pital in Omaha Sunday night. She will remain there most of this week for observation and treatment.
