Irvin Betts, Mr. Landis, Ed Van Horn, S. L. Brandt, Howard Haneger, WiK liam Thornton spent last week end at Fullerton, hunting pheas ants. Mr. and' Mrs. S. L. Brandt were at Sterling- last week, vis iting the John Dietles and other friends. They report that the Dietles have sold their restaur ant, and that they will operate a farm near Sterling next year. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Friesel will move into the Mrs. Ellen Johnson heme in the north part of town. Howard was married, September the second to Miss Hiss Gloria Harrison, of Lincoln. Miss Joan Johnson and Miss Virginia Gish were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Wiseman last Friday. The .members of the Weeping Water school board gave a re ception to the teachers, Wednes day evening-, Oct. 29, when all Darents were invited. A fine pro gram had been prepared' and all enjoyed the opportunity ol meeting the new teachers. Recent euests at the Robert Baker home were, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Wallen of Lake City, la.; Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Wallen of Goshen, Indiana and Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Countryman of Pax- ton, Nebr. Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Hinds have returned home after a four day visit with the Wilbur Longs at Alva, Oklahoma. Mrs. Wilson Gilmore of Calla way, is a guest at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hoback. - Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Forsythe went to Fremont, Saturday to meet Mr. Forsythe's father, Q. E. Forsvthe. of Fort Collins, Colo rado, who will remain here for a two weeks visit at the Forsythe home. Mrs. Valeria Hailh, of Omaha, and her daughter and grandson, of Lincoln, Mrs. Gail Smith and son, Kit, were visitors at the E. M. Ruby and the Clifford Cooper homes, Tuesday afternoon. A miscellaneous shower was given Sunday afternoon at Man- ley Hall for Mr. and Mrs. L. Herbert Stander (Angela lin ing), who were married October the fourth, at St. Mary's Church at West Point. The newly mar ried couple will make their home on a farm west of Manley. Mrs. Guy Hopkins reports that their son, Tom, is rapidly re covering since his operation at St. Elizabeth hospital, last Sat urday. He expects to be able to return home very soon. Tom had his collarbone broken while playing football at Ashland, two weeks ago. The bones had to be wired together and it will be some time before he will again be able to play ball. His parents own a wire- recording machine, and Mrs. Hopkins took it to the school house, where his schoolmates and teachers sent messages. To these were added messages from business men. TUcic rccoi clings . were taken to the hospital, and they were the , means of cheering both Tom and his room mate, who is one of College View's best football players, and is confined to the hospital with a foot injury. TTarold Stander was in Chicago the first part of the week, going on the special tram, which car ried International Harvester Halors to the one hundredth an niversary jubilee. All who were privileged to attend are nign in their praise ot tne trip. Francis L. Hebard also return ed heme Wednesdav, after tak- j ing the same trip. While in urn-, cago, Mr. Hebard had dinner and J spent the evening- at tne nome of his sister, and -enjoyed a vioiti with his mother, who was also in Chicago, at the same time. Susan Wood was seven years old, last Friday, and it was also the birthday of her school teach er, Mrs. M. L. DeCrean, so Su san's mother, Mrs. Stanley Wood prepared refreshments and took them to the school house, where all of the pupils in that grade enjoyed the birthday party together.
