LINCOLN 1, NEEK AS IC A. 97-ltp DOC EATON PLAYS ON WINNING TEAM A former Plattsmouth high school football star, "Doc" Wil bur Eaton, is still playing the game. Stationed at the Naval base at San Diego, "Doc" is on the base team and helped score a victory over the Marines on Navy Day, Monday, October 27. Writing home about the game, his wife tells that Doc's team was pitched against Camp Pen dleton Marines, reputedly the strongest service team on the west coast. Playing before a rec ord crowd of 50,000 people, the Navy team won a 20-7 triumph over the Marines. Built to ac commodate 35,000, the stadium was closed 45 minutes before the game began. Ten bands were on hand to inspire the teams and fans and to honor Admiral Nin H2 who attended the game. Oregon Visitor Back in Old Home Mrs. Grace Eennett of Port land, Oregon, has been visiting in the city with relatives and to view the scene of her early childhood. Mrs. Bennett is a cousin of Frank, Guy and Charles Bestor of this city and while here was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bestor. The parents of Mrs. Bennett were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Cooper, the father being an engineer on the Burlington for several years until Ihe removal of the family to the west some Torty-fivc years ago. She has been visiting a - half sister "at Ames, Iowa, and stop ped here while criroute hdme. i There are very few here that she can recall save the relatives and none of the buildings arc re called after the long years that have elapsed since her home here. USE JOURNAL WANT ADS 1 Funeral Friday for William H. Homan Weeping Water (Special) William H. Homan, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 1947, at his home in Weeping Water. Af ter an extended illness and many weeks of intense suffer ing in the hospital, lie had re turned home from an Omaha hospital only a few days before his death. William Henry Homan. was born in Danville, Illinois, May 21, 1881. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Poore Homan. At the age of eight he moved with his parents to Drury, Mo., where he grew up to manhood. September 21, 1901, he was uni ted in marriage to Eupha Sim mons. To this union were born six children: Sanford, of Weep ing Water; Maggie, who died at the age of three; Mrs. Madge Rector, Richmond, California; Mrs. Opal Baker, Weeping Wa ter Mrs. Ruth Bico, of Brooklyn, New York; Eugene Gruber, of Murray who was only ten months old, when his mother died, during the influenza epi demic of November, 1918. Mr. Homan came to Cass Coun ty about 1908, settling at Union and, later for a short time at Murray. He came to Weeping Water April, 1925. September 22, 1924, he "was married to Elizabeth Hall of Plattsmouth. In addition to his wife and five children he is sur vived by a sister, Mrs. Delia Browne, of San Eernardino, Cal., and by a brother, James Homan, of Portland, Oregon, five grand children and one great grandson. Mr. Homan was a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Hobson Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul W. Walker in charge of the serv ices. Mrs. Henry Rugha and Mrs. Herbert Ratnour sang two num bers, "Beautiful Isle of Some where" and "Sometimes We'll Understand". They were accom panied by Mrs. Eugene Ludwick. Pall bearers were Raymond Norris, Homer Fleeman, Lonny Wade, Roy Wade, Raymond Hart and Bedford Harvey. Hob son Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. Wesleyan University Launches Program Nebraska Wesleyan university will launch its Building Pro gram campaign in the Omaha district of the Methodist church, Monday, , November 10, at the Methodist church in Fremont. The objectives in the Building program for Nebraska Weslev- an are as follows: stadium, wo men's residence hall, men's resi dence hall, reconversion of the neating plant, and modernization of the C. C. White building. The stadium has been comrileted Thp Women's residence hall is almost ready for occupancy. The rp modeling of the heating plant nas Deen completed. Work on the U. C. White Memorial build ing is well under way. Six thousand Methodists, alumni, and friends have sub scribed toward a $500,000 nb jective the sum of $387,000 to date. Six districts of the Nebras ka conference have been can vassed. The Holdrege district canvass is now in progress, and Omaha is the last of the eight districts. Commissioners Meet The board of county commis sioners held their regular ses sion on Tuesday to take up sev eral matters of importance. In addition to the resolution fixing the. full time salary of the coun ty assessor, the board transacted the following' business: Bond of Shrader Rhoden, de puty sheriff, approved as well as the bond of Charles Arm strong, justice of the peace in Salt Creek precinct.
