BY THELMA OLSON Young-Scott Vows Said in Ashland Fall flowers decorated the Christian Church at Ashland, Nebr., Sunday evening October 26 when Miss Shirley Young be came the bride of Lloyd Scott, jr. Miss Young, the daughter of Mrs. Gertrude Young, was given in marriage by her brother, Jack" Young. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Utterback. The bride wore a light grey suit She carried a shower bou quet of white carnations and button chrysanthemums. For going away she wore a short brown cape with an orchid cor sage. A reception was held in the church parlors. Miss Young was graduated from the Ashland high school last sprnig. She has since been employed by the telephone com pany in Ashland. The bridegroom served two years in Ihe United States NaVy. Since his return he has been en gaged m farming. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Scott, former residents of the Platts mouth area. He grew up in Cass County and attended the Platts mouth high school, graduating from here in 1944. The young people will live on a farm south of Ashland. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Inman, of Louisville, were here Saturday to look after some business at the local business houses. RETURN FROM HUNT A group of former Platts mouth men have just returned home from a deer hunt in Wy oming, an annual event that they have enjoyed for the last few years. The hunting party secured several deer and had a fine time in the mountain country. The hunters were Francis Yelick and George Dolan. of Omaha, Edward Yelick of Des Moines and Richard Yelick of Greeley, Colorado. They are sons and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. James Yelick of this city. TO VISIT HOME FOLKS Lowell Hopkins arrived home Monday evening from Seattle, Washington, where he was dis charged from the navy. "Gus" however is to re-enlist according to his present plans, after a visit here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Hopkins, Sr. During his stay here it is hoped that Gordon Hopkins, a younger brother, also in the navy, may be here for a reunion with the members of the family. The large and spacious room had been arranged in decora tions of the holiday season, car ried out in streamers and in the table settings. Returns from Hospital . Albert Todd, who has been for the past several weeks at the Methodist hospital at Omaha, has returned home this week. - Mr. Todd has suffered from an infection of the leg that made his condition very serious for some time. He is still feeling the effects of the infection and un able to resume his usual activi ties on the farm. With Mrs. Todd and their son, he was down in the business sec tion of the city Wednesday to visit with the many friends who were very much pleased to see him around. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dow were in Lincoln Sunday to visit at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dow and to see the new grandson. Making the "trip with them were their son, Bernard, and a nephew, John Fester of Alliance. The young men, stu dents at the state university, were here for the weekend. Inklers Card Club Wednesday e v e n i n. g Mrs Frank A. Cloidt was hostess to the Inklers card club at her home on high school hill. In the bridge contests Miss Marie Horn ard Mrs. Fred Lugsch were the winners. Two guests were present. Mrs. Chris Bulin and Mrs. William Schmidtmann. Young People Are Married Sunday The marriage of Miss Virginia Richards, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Richards, Nebras ka City to John W. Duncan- son of Mr. and Mrs. William Duncan, Union, was solemnized at the First Baptist church, Nebraska City, Sunday afternoon. Rev. D. H. McMillan read the marriage lines. Two hundred and fifty guests assembled for the ceremony and the prelude of wedding music. They left on a wedding trip to the Ozarks and will make their home on a farm northwest of Nebraska City on their return. Joseph Garrett, of Cherokee, Iowa, is here for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Garrett and his brothers, Hu bert and Bill Garrett. He is suf fering from the effects of an in jured arm sustained while at his work. He will be here for a short time. Miss Alice Marie Funk left Tuesday noon for Chicago after visiting here since Friday with; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Funk. Departing from Omaha, Miss Funk rode in the new Vista Dome coach of the Burlington line and has written enthusiasti cally about her trip back to Chi cago. In St. Joseph's llospital Mrs. Hannah Applegate has been moved from the Methodist hospital to St. Joseph's hospital Omaha, where her daughter, Jane is a nurse in training-. She has shown steady improvement in the week that she has been with her daughter.
