MCE FOUR Society l BY THELMA OLSON Large Attendance At Auxiliary Meeting The September meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary was held Thursday evening in the club rooms With 46 members present. Mrs. Alpha Mauzy, unit president,- was in charge of the meeting. ' After reports by the chairmen of the' various committee the new business was laKen up. in response to s request from Mrs. IjGeme McGlasson, department chairman of hospital and rehab ilitation, the group voted- to try to send a car of workers each week to the Veterans' hospital, .Lincoln", to assist at the hospital. The Auxiliary will send gifts lo wives of hospitalized veterans t Christmas time. Plans were completed for the Auxiliary's part in the Kass Scounty King Korn Karnival. They will operate a refreshment stand during' the Karnival and Iwill enter a float in the parade. Lutz were hosts at a family dinner at their country home Sunday honoring Mrs. Maggie Gobelman on her 83rd birthday; which was Sep tember 6. Also sharing honors were Miss Ann Gobelman, whose birthday was September 2; Mrs. Mollie C. Gobelman, September 14; E. J. Lutz, September 18, and Mrs. Peter Gobelman, September 20. A sumptuous dinner was serv ed at the noon hour. Colorful fall flowers were used for the table decorations. During the afternoon the young people played softball and cro quet while the other guests vis ited. A large pink and white birth day cake adorned with 83 candles was served with ice cream in the evening. BREAKS LEG IN BICYCLE ACCIDENT Myrna, 7, daughter of Mrs. Clarence Osman, is in Methodist hospital, Omaha, with a broken leg as a result of an accident last week. It is reported that the little girl was riding a bicycle at her home in the west part of the city when she lost control of it and broke her leg in the fall. She was taken to Omaha by Sattler abulance after treatment here by Dr. Hudson. KARL GROSSHANS Ownei4 FEDERATION MEETING Circle Four members were hostesses to the Women's Feder ation of the Presbyterian church last Wednesday evening in a meeting in the church parlors. Mrs. Glen Vallery was in charge of devotions. Mrs. T. I. Friest announced the dates for a series of book reviews to be giv en on the nights of October 8 and 22, November 12, and December 3. Mr. and Mrs. David Fowler presented an; instrumental en semble with David Friest. Joann Cecil, Carol Rakow and Florence Duda. Mrs. Richard Peck, in charge of the Challenge to Youth pro gram, presented Carol Lou Bern- j hardt and Miller Hurst who re j ported on their work on the Da na college campus at Blair this summer. Bill Howland gave a report on a study of missionary work in Alaska: Margaret Heineman re- j ported on work in Korea; Janis I Schmidtmann, in Japan; and Jean Lloyd reported on work among the lepers. Miss Lois Giles showed Koda chrome slides of Hawaiian scenes. Visitors from Illinois Mr. and Mrs. Bruce H. Miller are house guests of the L. D. Hiatts. They arrived from Peor ia, 111. Friday and will also visit at the home of Mrs. E. P. Lutz Mr. and Mrs. William Steinkamp and Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Heinrich. Winters Family Visit from Texas Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Winters and daughters, Shirley and Pat sy, and sons, John and Curtis, ar rived last week from their home in Texas City, Texas for a visit with relatives. They are at the home of Mr. Winters parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Winters. The Winters moved to Texas City in January and were there at the time of the explosion disaster. They report that cleanup work ! is still in progress and will con- tinue to be a major item for some time to come. Circle Date Early Due to the opening of the King Korn Karnival on Septem ber 17, the members of the Circle No. 1 of the Presbyterian Fed eration will meet a week earlier, Wednesday, September 10. Mrs. Luke Wiles will be the hostess, the meeting to be in her home. To School in Oklahoma' John Conis, Charles Beverage, Miss Margaret Hamilton and Miss Catherine Conis left Satur day for Norman, Oklahoma, where Miss Conis will begin her senior year at the state univers- ; ity. The others returned home to day. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Henton and little son, Bobby, returned Tues day from the Black Hills, where they had been enjoying a short vacation. Go to California Mrs. Walter Propst and her ! sister, Mrs. A. A. Wetenkamp are 1 visiting in California. They are now in Culver City at the home of Mrs. Propst's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Propst. They also plan to visit Jheir sister, Mrs. Jennie Lee, in i Bakersfield. GOLDENROD STUDY CLUB The Goldenrod Study Club will hold its first meeting of the fall and winter season Friday after noon, 2:30, at the home of Mrs. Ralph Wiles. It will be in the na ture of a general discussion by all members. Mrsv. Elbert Wiles is president. The regular meeting is the second Thursday of each month. Members are urged to note the change in day for this first meeting. Here from Kentucky Recent guests at the home of Mr-and Mrs. Kenneth Hostctter and son, Kenneth Wayne, of Murray were Mrs. Hostetter's sis ter and family, her brother and their mother. The visitors, Mrs. Modene Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Oi -ville Hutson and son, Orville, jr., and James Talbcrt, left for their home at Mayfield, Kentucky, af ter a week's stay. E. II. Wescott To Michigan Leaving Saturday morning, E. H. Wescott accompanied his daughter, Mrs. P. H. Murdick and two children to Grand Haven, Michigan for a two week stay in their home. They visited Mr. Petereit's sister, Mrs. Gus Weisenberg and family of Longview, Wash., and a niece in Seattle. They took the coast drive to Los Angeles and there they visited Mrs. Born's sister, Mrs. H. E. Sullivan and family, and her brother, Will Fight and Mrs. Fight. At Los Angeles also they visited at the home of the Carl Stoehr family and Ted. On the way home the party stopped at Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and other interes ting points. Konfrsts in Chicago Mrs. Jerry Konfrst and daugh ters, Patty Ann and Nancy Sue, accompanied by Mrs. Frank Kon frst and granddaughter, Arlene Konfrst, were ia Chicago last week where they went by bus. They visited the Leslie Konfrst family and saw many interesting places throughout the city. They went to the 200, the museum and enjoyed the grand spectacle of Buckingham fountain with col ored lights playing on it. They also saw Chicago by night when they took a trip to the Loop by the elevated cars. Three Sisters Have Birthdays Patty Johnson and her twin sisters, Marlene and Darlene, celebrated their birthdays last week by going- to Nebraska City with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Johnson. Patty is nine and her sisters are three, all claim ing September 2 as their birth da ys. At Nebraska City they visited their grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. C. E. Austin and further celebrated with a picnic supper at Steinhart park in which the two families joined. Newcomer to Plattsmouth Coming here from Grand Ra pids, Mich., for a visit, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Paige have decided to make Plattsmouth their home. They are now at the home of Mrs. Paige's mother, Mrs. Ruth Buffington. Mr. Paige has se cured employment here and has rented the Homer Shrader house in Rock Bluff where they will live when their household goods arrive from Grand Rapids.
