Her home is at Auburn, Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs.. Glen Harger and family returned home Sunday from their trip. A family gathering in honor of Dick Rcickman was held at the Ford Rcickman home on Friday evening. Harold Leutchcns has been on the sick list this last week. Quite a number of people from Murdock and vicinity are attend ing the state fair this week. Mrs. O. B. Lupardus was on the sick list Thursday and Fri- ; 'day of last week. Devotions were led by Mrs. Will Baier. Due to the absenceof the president, Mrs. Dcria Rugc, vice president, conducted the business. Apples that were canned since the last meeting were to be sent as soon as possible to the orphan age in Omaha. The Father-Son dinner was also discussed. Quilt ing was the work project for the afternoon. Robert McDonald had the for mal opening of his locker plant VVedn3sday. Three baskets of groceries, garden rakes and a quarter of bee were given away. He served coffee and cook ies to a very nice crowd. Mr. and Mrs. John Penny and son moved to the Anna Mohr farm home this week. Mr. Penny will again be a teacher in our school. Earl Freeman is a surgery pa tient at Bryan Memorial hospi tal in Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Will Baier have f t returned from their trip. They ; visited Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming Hal and Grcth Garnett, Neil Johnson and Harry Jacobsen have gone to Minnesota on a fishing trip. Bill Meyer, Greenwood, -is vis iting at the Robert McDonald heme this week. The Men's Club held a stag party Friday night at the Town Hall. Everyone had plenty of fish to eat. brought Nettie and Rex home and spent the day at the John Eaton home in Union. ' Lloyd Tice, brother of Nency Anthony, and who is in the 'Navy is spending a few days with his sister. He is stationed in the Philippines and is having a 51 day leave at this time.' Cora Hathaway has been visi ting in Norman, Oklahoma for the past several weeks. She was ily and enjoyed her visit very much. Lloyd Tice, Dorothy Dunn and Nancy Anthony visited the State Fair last Sunday. Union Schools opened last , Monday morning with the fol lowing teachers on the faculty; Supt., Mr. Mittland; Principal, , Miss Dorothy Dunn and Mrs. Bculah Sanders. In the grade j rooms; Kindergarten and first j and second grades, Mrs. Mitt-, land; Intermediate-third, fourth i and fifth, grades Miss Vivian ; Mcisinger, in the Grammar j Rooms-sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Mrs. Ora Guerra. Word has just been received by Union friends, that Mrs. T. Porter Bennett died very suddenly at her home at Falls City. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Schlichte mier and family spent Sunday- one of the 13 graduates of the Bryan Hospital School of Nurs ing, tho commencement exer cises being held Tuesday, Sep tember 2, at First Methodist church in Lincoln at 8 p.m. Miss Arnold was unable to attend the baccalaureate services at West minister Presbyterian on Sunday because of illness. She plans to take up office work later with Drs. Liston and Liston. Mr. and Mrs. John Long are enjoying having their daughter and son-in-law from Kansas as guests in their home for an ex tended visit. The Odd Fellows had a special session Friday evening, the in itiation degree work being put on that night. Mrs. Mary Lean of Norfolk, Nebraska, will celebrate her 84th birthday on September 10. Her friends here will remember her with cards, as she is bedfast most of thetime. The members or ner iamiiy held this reunion for her a little ahead of time, as her son John, arrived there from Washington state, his first visit here for several years. Community Kensington was held Thusday, August 28, at the home of Mrs. Otto Stegc. Mrs. Cora Gerbeling presided in the absence of the president, Mrs. had Mies Mabel Broderick visited Miss Elsie Kunz Saturday eve ning. She was on her way to Murdock where she is a high school teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bogcnrief went to the fair on Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stokes of Wa terbury. The remained over un til the next dayy as guests of Mrs. Maxine Kunz and husband at Lincoln. RETURNS FROM LEXINGTON Miss Nora Shafer returned Sunday after spending her vaca tion in Lexington, Nebraska, with Mr. and Mrs. George Jordan, for merly of this city.
