Heavy, wet mows ami continuous rains swelled tne river to a depth of "" feet. The ice would not break up and Pollock became worried. lie trained permission to fasten cables from the Purlineton railroad brid.ee to his bridee. The Purline- ;ton bride'- had wider .-pans so the ice could pass under the bridee ; w ithout breaking up, but Pollock's : bridee was shorter-spanned and rthe ice iled up acainst it. t The inevitable happened ami the bridee was shoved several feet downstream by the heavy ice. Un daunted, Pollock repaired the bridee and from then on the toll husiness flourished until he sold the bridee tr an engineer after 15 years as its owner. The engin eer wrecked it and the state soon erected a bridee slightly east of the location of the Pollock bridee. Following his bridee venture, Pollock re-entered the hankinjr business when he became associat ed with the Farmers State hank here. The depression of the late lP-'O's and early lP.'iO's struck the hank as it did others. The re sult was that Pollock personally paid depositors $0 1,058 of his own personal funds to make all de posites eood in full.
