Our Going out of business is an unhappy oc curance with us, for we have made many friends during our 35 years tenure, serving the residents of Cass County and Plattsmouth. But due to illness we are compelled to do so. We want all of our customers and friends to know that we have sincerely appreciated their loyalty and patronage. We will always remember the many friends we have made through our contact in business. We know that you will be pleased with the new owners Nierste and Scarbrough, and hope that you will give them the same generous patronage and loyalty that you have bestowed on us. Frank and LMAH Paint & Wallpaper Store Wild Ideas Run Loose in U. S. Patent Office; Even Oysters Aren't Safe By Frederick C. Othman ....WASHINGTON, There s one place in all the world to start the New Year right, where ideas flow like air, the future is bright (for everybody but oysters), and only geniuses are allowed: the U. S. patent office Let us consider as our first in ventions of i)46 the somewhat complicated, but entirely practical machine of Geronimo R. Kagupos of Spokane, Wash. It is designed first to make an oyster hysterical and then to grab him while his nerves are frayed. Oycter Machine Ifsjou ever have tried to open a non-cooperative oysteryou'll un derstand the necessity of Geroni mo's machine. You put the oyster in it and reciprocally operable hammer goes to work, bang-bang-bang, blankety-bang, on tne oys ter s overcoat. i The oyster can stand only so I much of this. He opens his snell to see what's making the racket and j pi' st a chisei-nke tool auto i niatically pries it the rest of the way. Then you drop in another oyster and bang-oang-bang. . . Bath Tubs Miss Ethel L. r ieischhauer of La f ayette, Ind., has designed for jauun li. Levme of Pittsburgh, Pa. it has no handle. The levine parasol has instead a harness to lit the human nead j and a chin strap to hold u on. It is tne only umoreiia ever niaue that 11 keep you dry while you're carrying two suitcases. Or vice-versa. Lead to the divoise courts. Isenberg has invented a method of printing with fluorescent ink, j which lignts up when subjected to uKra violet rays. All you need in your bedlamp is a globe which prouuees black, or invLable light. This strikes the Mollie, J printed word, as printed by Isen- burg, and lights itseii, without dis turbing your sleeping partner. Keep it up, inventors. Continue this pace and 194,will go down in history as the year that life (ex cept for oysters) became worth living. Cabbage Goes Long Way in Vitamins KALAMAOZO, Mich. U.P. If it is vitamins you're after, Mar garet E. Linsell, county home demonstration agent, guarantees plenty of vitamins B and C and also some calcium in one cup of cabbage raw. Miss Linsell says the cabbage, prepared correctly, will furnish nearly half a cay's vitamin C need. She explains that the secret of correct preparation is to cook quickly and avoid exposing cab bage to the air. Five to 10 min utes of boiling does the trick for shredded cabbage, and 10 to 15 minutes for quartered cabbage. Miss Linsell pointed out that the vegetable can be served with white sauce, or with cheese sauce prepared by adding a cup of thinly-shaved cheese to the white sauce and stirring until the cheese is melted. HMf4UUf New Orleans Ponders Kind of Memorial NEW ORLEANS U.R) It's pretty definite that New Or leans will have some sort of memorial for its World War 11 uead but what said memorial will be is anybody's guess. Suggestions have been made for everything from a tunnel to an opera house, and one fellow even wants a concrete archway over all highways entering tne city! Mayor Robert S. Maestri has appointed a committee to look ; into the matter, but the com ! mittee is pretty much divided among itself. One member of the comraitte, Impresario Irwin Poche, says, "I've talked to a lot oi veter ans, and 98 per cent of them agree that a hospital is the kind oi memorial they would like to i see built." And that's the way it goes. College men want scholarships to universities in the name of the war dead. Opera patrons want a rebirth of the old French Opera House which was razed by fire in the early 1900s. Railroaders think a new Un ion Station would be a fitting tribute to the veterans. Other folks have suggested a bridge, a library, a monument, and a sports arena. There's no telling how oi when the matter will be settled, because there are no less than o5 men on the selection commit te, each with his own pet-idea.
