Meeting The members of Fontenelle chap ter of the Daughters of the Ameri can Revolution met on Tuesday ev ening at the home of Mrs. C. A. Rosencrans with Mrs. Zelpha Seward as the hostess, enjoying a very fine program that had been arranged for the occasion. There was a fine at tendance of the membership present to take part in the evening program. The devotional period was led by Mrs. R. W. Clement and the meet ing presided over by Miss Pearl Staats, the regent of the chapter. Mrs. F. R. Gobelman had the pro gram in charge and it consisted of a discussion - on the "Approved Schools." The Daughters of the American Revolution, national chap ter, have two schools that they are sponsoring, these being located in the south and to which the national chapter is giving, financial support, this being one of teh ektensive edu cational programs that is being handled by the national organiza tion. The local chapter voted to donate $5 to the two schools as a part of the support fund. It was also voted to prepare and present a Christmas bok - for the men of the nation that may be on the high seas at tlie holiday time. Mrs. Mae S. Curl, Prop. 13-2sw FIGHT BY HIS SIDE Buy Bonds Canvass Vote The counting board that has start ed the official canvass of the vote of Cass county at the last election on Tuesday, November 7th, is now in the midst of the count of the ser vice men's vote. There are 218 votes received and 81 still to come in. The canvass is being conducted by James Hall and Adolph Koubek with County Clerk George R. Sayles as the presiding member. The returns from the soldiers as far as counted shows their votes are following the general trend of the civilian vote. Among some of the returns are that on the presidency, Dewey, 133, Roosevelt, 93; Griswold, 192, Olson, 33; Buffett, 159,, Gilles pie, 50; Dooley, 77, Banning, 127;, Fauquet, 132, Briggs, 74. For Pro hibition, 36, against prohibition, 167. For gas tax amendment, yes, 162, no 42. An Army Ordnance jeep and trail er can be converted into an ambu lance, which is capable of carrying three litter patients, two assistants and a driver. All took their sup pers and ate together. The evening was spent at cards; first and second prize winners were Mr. and Mrs Hennihg Johnson ad Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ross. Mrs. Harold Hauberg and daugh ter, Annie, of Nebraska City, are house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Balfour. Mr. and Mrs. William Brandt and son, Raymond, called on William Brandt; Jr., at the Omaha hospital in Omaha Sunday afternoon. They found him much improved and in hopes of an early return home. Mrs. Eugene Frtch, Mrs. Guy Mur doch and Miss Bessie Murdoch en tertained at the latter's home on Friday evening at a miscellaneous shower for Mr. and Mrs. John Ahrends of Weeping Water, a neph e'w of the ladies. Forty-five guests were present. Margaret Knabe, La vonda Murdoch and John Murdoch favored with a musical hour, the latter with his piano accordion, which all enjoyed. Lovely gifts were received by the newlyweds. Games were enjoyed by the younger group Lovely refreshments were served by the hostesses. . Armistice Day was observed very quietly in Nehawka, a bingo and party was held at the public audi torium in the evening, by the American Legion and Auxiliary, attracted a large crowd. Proceeds amounted to $40.00. Mrs. Vilas Ketelhut received the gift prize of a wool blanket and Lloyd Doeden, prize of a turkey. Mrs. Elmer Philpot entertained a large group of members of the Otter bein Ladies Aid society at her home Thursday afternoon. The ladies worked at a quilt. Mrs. Philpot serv ed delicious refreshments. Supt. and Mrs. John Franz and sons of Union were Friday evening guests at the home of Supt. and Mrs G. W. Weik and Sharyel. The Nehawka football team went to Weeping Water Saturday evening for their first eleven-man game Score: Weeping Water 19. Nehawka 6. This was the last scheduled game for the season. Mr. and Mrs. John Chandler re port the arrival of a daughter. Bar bara Jane, at the St. Catherine' hospital in Omaha, on Wednesday Nov. 8. Mrs. Carl Pierce (Beatrice Chap man) has accepted a position with the Western Electric company an plans to make her home temporarily in Lincoln. Fred Heebner, who has lived alone in Nehawka for the past fifteen years, moved to Weeping Water last week to make his home" with a sis ter, Mrs. Louise Leyhman. Mr. and Mrs. Chris. Anderson have rented his vacant property and will move into it soon. Robert Schlichtemeier, employed at the Martin Bomber plant, is as sisting his father in the corn field during a two day vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Klemme of Wabash visited her sister. Mr. an Mrs. George Dickman and twins on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Ketelhut called on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schwartz Sunday evening. Mrs. Earl Cox spent Monday in Nebraska City on business. Mrs. H. H. Bruce Stone, ho plan a trip to California soon, have rented the Rough property in which to store their furniture until their return. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pike of Union and children visited relatives in Ne hawka Friday night. Mrs. Melvin Sturm and Mrs. Wal ter Wunderlich shopped in Lincoln Wednesday. Barbara Jean Gansemer of Ne braska City spent Sunday with Vir ginia Schwartz. Mrs. Nelson Berger went to Lin coln Friday to attend the funeral services of her -uncle, Dr. Frank W. Krieg. Services were held at the Roper Mortuary and burial was at DeWitt, where he grew to manhood. Born in Chicago in 1863 and came to Nebraska with his parents when four years of age. When he was six years old, he was playing with a group of boys at a railroad turntable at Crete, Nebr., and accidently had a leg cut off; 25 years ago he again suffered another physical blow, he became deaf and had to give up his medical practice. He graduated from the medical school at St. Joseph hos pital, and practiced for many years at Crete; his wife passed away sev eral years ago and he has resided in Lincoln for the past few years. He is survived by two sons, Wen dell Krieg, research specialist in nevalogy at the Monteveret Uni in Chicago; Moritz Krieg, with an elec trie company at Denver, Colo.; who also Is an artist, paints landscapes and has much of his works in the various art galleries in the U. S, Four sisters, one of whom is the mother of Mrs. Berger, Mrs. L. W. Wilkins, of Lincoln. Two brothers, twenty nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mary Katherine VanAckern of Palmyra, 72, died Thursday at a hospital in Lincoln after an illness of several years, a fall last Septem ber fractured a hip which failed to heal and resulted in her death. Born in Avoca in 1872, daughter of Henry and Mary Behrens, married John VanAckern of Avoca In 1891. He passed away twenty years ago. She had recently made her home with her sons and daughters. Surviving are three daughters and four sons: Mrs. Emma Root, Ben nett; Mrs. Bertha Reed, Pomona, Calif.; and Mrs. Anna Royal of Ne hawka; Henry, Ed and Paul of Pal myra, and William of Murray. Mrs. Alvin McReynolds of Nehawka is a niece. Thirteen grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Mon day at 10:40 a. m. at St. Leo's Catholic church at Palmyra, of which she was a member, and burial at the church cemetery there.
