Tuck er and Mrs. Glenn Rutledge enter tained the Nehawka Woman's club at the. opening meeting of the season at the Stone home on Fri day afternoon. Mrs. George Sheldon led the flag salute, Miss Evelyn Wolph led the devotional meeting. The-club voted to subscribe to sev eral magazines, which will be placed in the public library for public use. Magazine subscriptions recently swelled the library fund $31.00 in commissions. Mrs. Carl Balfour, leader of the afernoon program, introduced Mrs. Omer Schlichtemeier, as Tom Bren raem, and a "Breakfast at Sardi's" program was enjoyed, during which each member reported on her rela tive in service and his rank and present location. A Memorial to Ice land Hogue and Harley Kearney, two local boys who lost their lives in the present war. Mrs. Frank Lemon won the "Wishing Ring." Very old and peculiar hats were presented, some with unique histories and some even 50 year sold. Mrs. Katie Kime was presented with an or chid (Rose) as the oldest present; Mrs. Albertina Ost and Miss Evelyn Wolph shared honors as the good, good, neighbor, and also received a similar orchid for their merits and good deeds. Mrs. Eugene Nutzman and Mrs. Will Ost represented the Nehawka club at the State convention in Omaha and returned home in time to report on the splendid program and addresses given there. The hostesses served delicious re freshments. All present declared it an ideal and interesting afternoon. Boyd Linder, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Linder, was taken to the Nebraska City hospital Satur day noon. He was enroute home from the Peru State Normal school and riding his motorcycle north on U. S. 75, when he crashed into a car, five imiles south of Nebraska City. Lind er has a broken heel bone and sev eral minor scratches and bruises. The car was driven by Mrs. Helen Beccard of Nebraska City, her small daughter was with her; they es caped uninjured. Linder will be out and at school with the aid of crutch es in a short time. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ford are the proud parents of a son born on Sunday at their home in Nehawka. The baby weighed 11 pounds. The mother was the former Velma Smith of Nehawka. All concerned are getting along fine. Louis Carstens of Avoca was a dinner guest of his niece, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Switzer for Sunday din ner, afternoon luncheon guests ot llr. and Mrs. Fred SchomaKer and eVening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thiele. Additional supper guests of the Thieles were hi3 sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Switzer and Will Hobson of Weeping Water. ; Mr. and Mrs, Guy Murdoch and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Murdoch of Weeping Water. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Beilman and family of Nebraska City were Sun day dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Sand and family. Afternoon and evening guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Bischof and Mrs. Mai tilda Bischof of Nebraska City, and Mr. and Mrs. Jamer, Hoard and family. Mrs. Albert Stoll and son, Gil bert and her sister, Mrs. Harold Kimblom and son. Junior, from Wayside, Nebraska, have been guests of the ladies mother, Mrs. Ann Ful ton, the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Case and Mrs. Saunders of Omaha were Sun day dinner guests of Mrs. Case's brother, Mr. and Mrs. John Ketel hut. Mr. and Mrs. Vilas Ketelhut also joined them for a visit. Mrs. William Kruger and Alice were Sunday afternoon guests of Mrs. Alton Sterling. Mr. ana Mrs. Harold Rice of Flattsmouth were Sunday dinner guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Rice. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Simonds and family have moved from the Chester Stone tenant farm to one of Parr Young's farm houses. Workers of the Methodist church will gather at the church basement on Wednesday this week for an all day canning project. The projects will be donated to the M. E. Crowell home at Elair. Marianna Schomaker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Schomaker, student at the University of Nebras ka at Lincoln, has been awarded a 5100 scholarship by Magee and sons, as to tier wortainess as a student. This award is made annu ally to a Junior at the University. Lester Heebner was a tonsilectomy patient at the Brown hospital in Nebraska City last Friday. He re turned home Saturday afternoon., , Chris Miller from Ruskins, Nebr., is a guest at the home of his daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Heebner, to two . weeks. ' Mrs. H. H. Stoll. went to Omaha Monday via train to spend a few days with her sons i. there. " . Mr. and Mrs. Paul O'Connor were business visitors in Omaha Monday. Killed in France , Pvt. George McConnell, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mc Connell of Louisville was killed in action in France on Sept. 15th, ac cording to word rceeived by his aunt, Mrs. Will Waldo at Nehawka. He served in the infantry and went overseas in April," 1944. He was born at Nehawka and' moved with his parents to Louisville when a small lad. His i father, a veteran of World War I, died two years ago. ; .Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chapman re turned from California this week.
