Her condition is favorable and she Is reported to be improving. Thirty-eight years ago tlie 14th of this month Hans Andersen arrived in Weeping Water from Denmark. after having arrived at New York City, only a few days before. Hans said that it was the happiest day of his entire life when he arrived in Weeping Water, and that he has at wav bppn verv hanDy here. Hans lost everything he owned in the fire which bur uecl part of the business part of town, a few years ago, and only escaped losing his life, by be ing rescued by James Kivett, fire chief. His deafness had caused mm to fail to hear the fire whistle or the commotion on the street. Mr. Coat-i man was" a quiet man who enjoyed his home and his family. Their first homo was on a farm .southwest of Weeping Water, until they decid ed to retire and move into town, when they bought the house now owned by Mr. Walter Wiseman, and ocupied by Willard H. Waldo. It was there that his wife passed away. He was greatly interested in civic and government affairs and kept up with the times as few older men have done. He was a member of the Metho dist church and greatly interested in all church work. He leaves to mourn his passing, four children, William, of Elmwood; Roy, of Alvo; Mrs. Gollaher and Miss Gladys Coat- man, of Grand Island. Ten grand children and one brother, Z. A. Frederick (Fritz) Linville. Mer chant Marine, is visiting his parents. Mr f.iu! Mis. F. C. Linville. Fritz Las made his third trip, with a total of 41,000 miles of travel on the wa ter. He has to report for duty again on the 2 lib of this month. Arriving here Tuesday evening was Syt. and Mrs. Gerald Stovall. Mrs. Stovall is the former Ruth Lane tnd they are visiting at the Home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L R. Lane, and with Sgt. Stovall s, mother, at Avoca. 3gt. Stovall is being trans ferred from Denver to a camp in South Carolina. Mrs. W. D. Lenker is at Immanuel hospital ,in Omaha, under the care of physiciam- for a few days. It is hoped that she will be able to return home again next Sunday. The animal Day or Prayer will be observed this year with a union service at Ihe Congregational church Friday evening. February 25, with Uev. John H. Pryor, as leader. Mr. and Mrs. Win. Dunn, of Oma ha, were in town Wednesday. Mr. Dunn was attending to business, and Mrs. Dunn was the guest of her fri'.nd. Mrs. Joan Carter. Mrs. Harold Elliott substituted for Miss Clysta Schlanker, as teach er for her grade, one day this week. Mrs. Tc. U. Baker reports that her mi. Robert Baker. MM3c. is in New Guinea, and that their other son, Lt. Warren Baker is in Italy. Jackie Sh ranger is very happy ibis week as he returned from a lew days 5 ray in Lincoln .where he was accompanied by his mother, and 'k now wearing a brace, rather than the heavy cast, which he has had to v. ear for several months. He will .til! havtf to use his crutches, though. O. C. Hinds recently purchased the Wm. Joyce home, and is having it made into a apartment house. When completed, the P. S. Shrau gers will occupy the north apart ment and Dr. and Mrs. Hejl will have the touth apartment. Rev. W. D. Lenker has been suf fering from a severe cold, and was unable to hold -morning services at the Methodist church, last Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. W. D. Lenker, Miss Maude Moulten. Mrs. L. N. Kunkel and Miss Hazel Owen, were Omaha visitors Tuesday. Every child in town who could find a sled was out coasting Sunday afternoon. It's too bad tbat they can't have a street closed off from traffic, s-o that no harm can come to them. Reginald graduated Feb. 7. from cingle engine school and will return there for further train-ing- , v;.-i c...-'.vl William Coatman Again this week our pioneers have teen reminded of the rapid flight of time, and of the swift thinning of the ranks of the older settlers of the community, as they leave us for that land from which there is no return. William Coatman, son of William and Rebecca Coatman, was born August 1.0, 1S5S, at Palatine, Illin ois. With his parents he came tp Ne braska, and to Cass County in the year of iS(;6. September 27, 187o he was united in marriage to Miss Isabelle Malcolm. To this union five children ere born. His wife and one daughter preceded him in death Since the death of his wife in 1935 Mr. Coatman had made his home in Grand Island, with his sonin-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. M. L.
