About one-fourth of the, farmers in the county have seen control demonstrations and many have al ready applied a one percent Roten one dust which is highly recommend ed for this purpose. The cows back is simply dusted with the material and the dust is worked down into the hair by running one's hand back and forth three or four times. Feeder cattle on the Parr Young farm were treated at the rate of over 400 head per hour at a demon stration last Friday. The materials mixed and leady to use costs about tvo cents per head. Farm Short Course The farm short courses scheduled for January 31st to February 5th is especially planned for women and girls. This short course! is just one of a series being held at the College cf Agriculture, Lincoln, for the pur pose of giving help for greater pro duction for new and when the peace comes. Poultry and gardening prob lems and possibilities will receive the entire attention with class per iods from S a. m. until 4 to 5 p. m in the afternoon. How about a weeks vacation from home responsibilities, but a vacation that is inexpensive, requires little transportation and is worthwhile and profitable as far as war tood production is concerned. Farm and town women pursuing these activi ties should be equally interested. For further information inquire at the Farm Bureau Office. Sheep Shearing Sheep can be sheared any time or. Cass county farms even though some cold weather is no doubt in store for the next few weeks. Only sheep that are in good condition and have a warm shed with plenty of bedding should be sheared this early, how ever. Several Nebraska flock owners like to shear before lambing. The animals are much easier to care for and the job is out of the way ahead of the rush spring work. A course in the training of sheep shearers can be arranged for Cass county if there are enough interest ed according to W. W. Derrick, State Extension Animal Husbandryman. Those interested should inform their county agent immediately. Lost Stretch Once wool fabric has shrunk, nothing will restore its original tex ture, warn textile specialists of the U. S. Olarke-McNary Orders The number of Nebraska farmers who are planning to plant Clarke McNary seedlings for farm woodlots and windbreaks nearly doubled dur ing the last week. Extension Forest er Earl G. Maxwell said today as he revealed that nearly 145 thousand Broadleaf seedlings and evergreen transplants have been ordered. Farmers in Cass county have or dered 1,900 seedlings. Trees are available in seventeen broadleaf and evergreen varieties. For more infor mation see your county agent. By Journal Field Reprcsentatir Fred Nelson, who delivers coal for the Farmers Elevator and for A. F. Sturm as well, was a visitor in Plattsmouth on last Monday after noon to secure his ration book for gas.
