NOVEMBER 4, 1943 SAILORS' FUR SHOP OPENS SATURDAY Plattsmouth has the opportunity of greeting a new type of business in town, when Mr. anil Mrs. Jake Sailors open their exclusive fur shop at 114 No. 4th street, on Saturday, November 6. Mrs. Sailors has had a wide fur experience in Kansas City shops anil conies well recommended. Mr. Sailors knows furs from the ground up, hav ing ranched, bought, skinned and pelted for a number of years in the Falls City vicinity. The Sailors' are now residents of riattsmouth and the Journal joins in welcoming them and wishing them success in their hcw business. MURRAY By Joumsl Field RepjcaciiUtif Mr. .and Mrs. Stacy Ash lock were visiting at Weeping Water with Glen Ashlock, a brother of Stacy. The men are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Obediah Ashlock of east of Union. Halloween in Murray The Halloween pranks in Murray were largely limited to the smear ins of soap on windows in homes, business places and cars. Able to Return Home Charles F. Lash, uncle of Mrs. G. E. Urubacher, who has been at an Omaha hospital recovering from the effects of a major operation, has so far recovered that he was able to be released. Mr. Bnibacher drove to Omaha and brought the patient on home to Auburn. Cattle From Missouri The Murray Transfer with the trucks of Wayne Ackley and Tarr Young, brought some 600 head of cattle from Missouri to the Murray community where they are to be fed by Boedeker and Son, and other stock feeders. Mrs. Lucian Carper and Mrs. Har ry Nelson were in Omaha the past week to havo. the eyes of their chil dren tested. Enlist in Seatees John Frans,, Bud Fitch and Lester Long, all of Murray, have enlisted in the Seabees, construction unit of the navy and they are now receiv ing their basic training in the east preparatory to being sent into service. The Lewiston school and one of the neighboring schools will join in the presentation of a program at the Lewiston community center on No vember 23rd. The Murray lumber yard has re ceived a carload of lumber that will aid in supplying the heavy demand for this material. Everett Spangler shipped six truck loads of fat cattle to the Omaha mar ket. Pierson, form er Union residents where Mr. Pier son operated a bank some 23 years ago. Mrs. Pierson is a daughter of tiie late Mary Allison. W. II. Porter was at Omaha on Monday fo secure a load of -oal that i? hard to secure in Union. It. E. Foster was shelling and 'delivering corn to the Union elevator i this v;-ek and Charles Meredith was hauling and delivering corn to his customers. i Operates Association Elmer It. Witherow has been se lected to serve as the cashier of the Union Co-Operative association. Miss Mary Becker, former cashier quitting to take up other work. Mr. Witherow should be very successful in this line of work. Expected Home Mr. and Mrs. Ben L. Neill are ex pecting a visit from their son, Sgt. John Neill and his 'Wife and Infant son in a short time. Sgt. Neill is expecting to visit home and bring the family also. In Serious Condition Otto'Wurtle, a brother of Mrs. Charles Meredith, was seriously in jured a few days ago. He is forced to use crutches in getting around and in doing so he tried to cross a street in Nebraska City, being struck by a passing car. He was seriously injured and since has boon at St. Mary's hospital under medical care. Eentertains. Relatives Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Porter enter tained on Sunday for Mrs. Mary Tay lor and daughter, Rachel, of Lincoln, and Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Keedy of Ashland. Mrs. Taylor and daughter have been visiting in the old home community, expecting in a short time to leave for Phoenix, Arizona, to spend the winter. Has Several Injuries George, Hathaway, who is in thfl U. S , armed service, has been home on a furlough and during that time had the misfortune to spruit his ankle, he getting an extension to stay a few days longer. The ankle improving, he was able to get around sufficient to go hunting and as the result shot a hole through his foot with a .22 rifle. He was taken to Nebraska City by Ivan Balfour and the injured feet dressed. Kadoglii, a staunch monarchist, carried out his awkward assignments at meeting with Victor Emmanuel somewhere in southern Italy, where he had gone to submit a list of pro posed members, of a new. coalition cabinet including anti-monarchist elements. He informed the king these re ports said that there is an increased sentiment among NapP-:? political leaders to turn over the throne to Humbert's six-year-old son, the prince of Naples. Padoglio was understood to have advised the king to continue in pow er until the allied armies have cap tured Rome, so the monarchy issue will not be precipitated until a majority of the Italian people have an. opportunity to voice their will. Miss Ruth Morris, one of the coun try teachers, has been attending the district teachers meeting in Omaha the past week. Eack From Pacific ; Lt. Carl Morris, who is home on a furlough at Weeping Water, was in Union Sunday to visit his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Morris, he enjoying breakfast with the rela tives. He has been in New Guinea and this is his first visit here in a year. Back on Duty Elmer Withrow, now in service in the navy, called his parents re cently when in port on the west coast, hut was not able to secure a furlough home as his shin after a few days again was sent to sea. He write:- that he is again back in act ive duty. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Banning and daughter, Mrs. Carl Peters and hus band, were at Alvo Sunday to visit at the John V. Banning home.
