By Joamtl Field Reprcjcnfatftf ; Fall Festival Dinner Success The dinner which the ladies of the Lewiston community have for a number of years served to the pub lic, was a pronounced success. Many people availed themselves of the op portunity to enjoy a fine dinner on last Sunday. Those from other parts attending included Mr. and Mrs. Chester Shrader of So. Omaha; Ran Pearson of Auburn; Mr. and Mrs. John Clintberg of Peru, and Oscar Linville and wife of Omaha. MioRirrms Bjr Journal Field Representative FIRST METHODIST CHURCH Union, Nebraska T. Porter Bennett, Pastor Earl Merritts are papering and re decorating a house in Plattsmouth which will be occupied by Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Reed. Mrs. Reed is em ployed at the Norfolk Packing com pany in Plattsmouth, and the fam ily will make their home there. The first part of this week the Uoedeker Feeding company receiv ed some SJ head of cattle coming from the vicinity of Alliance and same were placed on the Uoedeker farms for feeding. Lucean Carper was a visitor in Omaha on Monday attending to some matters of business in connection with his store. Herman Smith was in Omaha last Monday to secure a windmill for Ed win Shoemaker which was installed the following day. Wm. Sporer was a dinner guest of his son, Chester Sporer and fam ily last Sunday and reports a fine crop of hybrid seed which Chester is now gathering, same making from 70 to 80 br.phels per acre. Mrs. Dale Iong who has been at Kearney for the past two weeks, has returned and is now back at the post office here. The Christian Bible school had a very interesting lesson last Sunday on the fourth commandment, "Re member the Sabbath Day to Keep it Holy." A line attendance record was reported there being seventy-nine there. 9:45 "How Can We Know God?" will be the subject that the pastor will take for the morning service. We are a community church and Ave invite you to worship with us. 10:30 Sunday School. Donald McQuinn, general superintendent. Glad to note the increase in attend ance last Sunday. How much Bible teaching do you get outside of the Sunday School? There is a class for you. 7:00 Youth Fellowship. It is im nortant that your young people do attend the Fellowship. We are train ing for leadership. The construction of new corn cribs at the farms near Union, Nel son Beiger of Nehawka, was in to secure concrete for the foundation of his crib as was Charles Meredith and James Hamilton, who are build ing a crib for the Allen Madsen farm. The double crib at the Davis Kendall farm, constructed as far as the concrete work by the Frans Lum ber Co., and the carpenter work by John Alwin, Albert Young and Edward Miller, is now complete. Stltes and Will 'Davis homes, he-being a brother.'in-law of the men. Duke Frans Quite Poorly Duke Frans, 85, who is making j Ills home at Auburn, is quite poorly and has been visited by Mr., and j Mrs. I). Ray Frans, the former a nephew. The family here visit Mr. Frans as often as possible. Has New Well Herman Smith dug a well last "A'eek for Pale Topliff, which was one hundred and one feet deep. A pumpiiig test for five hours showed the water at 40 feet, which proved the well was a very good one. He is a guest at the George Visit Aged Man Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Balfour have been visiting with Grandfather Chal fant,wno Is in his 93rd year. Mrs. Balfour when a girl made her home with the Chalfant family and often visit him at his home in Denver. Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Griffin were visitors' an Plattsmouth Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George McFarland. Mr. and Mrs. McFarland are parents of Ray McFarland a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Griffin. Celebrate Silver Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Orton Nelson cele brated their 25th wedding anniver sary last Sunday at their home in Otoe county. They had as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nelson and family and Thornton Nelson and family of Ansley Neb. The men are brothers. Mrs. William Karnopp of Lincoln, was. a visitor in Union with her son, Dale Ivarnopp. Joe Green was in Lincoln Monday, going to purchase a corn picker. Birth of Son The birth of a son to Capt. and Mrs. W. B. Bock, at Corpus Christi, Tex., is reported. Captain Bock is located at that place where the fam ily have made their home for some time. Mrs. Bock formerly was Miss Jane Christianson. Mrs. John Chris tianson has departed for the south to be with her daughter and grand daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker were in Omaha Monday to look after some business and visit with friends. Mrs. Bud Fitch was a visitor in Nebraska City and while there visited with Mrs. Fred Tegner, who is quite ill. ceived a telephone call from their son, John, who is in the army, tell ing them that he had been married and also that he was , the happy father of a fine boy. This is the first word they had of the marriage of the son. ' Harley Morton and two daughters, with Mrs. Emma Morton, were' at Nebraska City last Saturday. Back from Islands Elmer Withrow, Jr., who is in the armed service, has returned to the United States, from the South Pa cific where he has been stationed. He called from San Francisco to the parents that he was back in the U. S. and had a four-day leave. Receive Surprise Mr. and Mrs. B. L.
