Teddy Harms, Jr., who is attend- ine school in Lincoln, was home over Christmas and the remainder j of the week. j C. E. Mockenhaupt and daughter, Miss Sue, were visited by Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Mockenhaupt, of near Alvo, on Christmas Day. Herman J. Rauth has been exca vating for a basement under his farm home when the weather is such that he can't do much else. Herman Dall had all the folks home for Christmas, with the excep tion of one son, Frank. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. .Rauth enter tained Miss Anna Rauth, their dau geter from Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mockenhaupt, their son Bil lie, and their daughter Miss Anna Marie, who was home from her school at Sinsinnawa, at dinner on Christmas day. Mr. and Mrs. John A. Stander were in Omaha on Monday. Mr. Stander underwent hospitalization recently and on this trip reported back to his physician for a check up. He is getting along very nicely. The building and premises for merly occupied by the firm of Cran es Curyea and Murtey was recently purchased by Fred Stohlman, who has been repairing and painting in preparation for occupancy in the immediate future as a lumber yard, hardware store and machinery and farm implement business. George Rau of Utica returned to Manley and will make his home here. He was employed in a store in Utica. A peculiar situation exists, that in many lines it is not possible to get goods sufficient to continue business. The writer met a man from Valley who attends sales for the specific purpose of buying farm machinery and equipment for re sale to famers. He finds a ready sale as new machinery is difficult to ob tain. The Manley schools closed for a short vacation last week and will reopen again in January. The teach ers and scholars gave in interesting program, complete with a Christ mas tree and treats. The fore part of last week John C. Rauth butchered, with the aid of Walter Mockenhaupt. On Wednes day they rendered lard and made sausage, as well as the other work which always follows winter butch ering on the farm. Wm. Scheehan was a recent visi tor in Plattsmouth, looking alter business matters and consulting with the rationing board. AivoEfewi Special Journal Correspond While home on furlough, Sgt. Gil bert Glaubitz, son of Mrs. Soren Petersen, was united in marriage to Miss Rose Scrupp. The ceremony took place on Wednesday. Sgt. Glau bitz departed Monday for his camp. His bride will remain in Lincoln, where she is employed. The Journal Joins with their many friends in ex tending congratulations and best wishes. J. B Elliott is in Lincoln looking after his interests in the "All Ameri can Cafe." Mrs. Phillip Coatman is in charge of the cafe. Phillip Coatman, who is in India, and near New Delhi, writes home that he is very busy. He told of much activity with the allies and the Japs. Phillip Coatman Is in charge of the servicing of airplanes and other defense machinery. Arthur Dinger, the garage man, was in Weeping Water on Tuesday to attend a meeting which would better acquaint him with his duties as tire inspector and rationing board member. He was also In Lincoln Wednesday, looking after business matters. Mr. and Mrs. John W. Banning were Sunday dinner hosts to Mr, and Mrs. Joe Banning and their daughter, Mrs. Carl Peters of Ne braska City, and W. B. Banning and wife of Union Bill Roelofsz, who was down Camp Crowder to visit his brother returned home last Wednesday. He was accompanied by Mrs. John Roelefsz, who remained with her husband at Camp Crowder until af ter the Christmas season. Bill Roelofsz, has received notice for examination and is to report for induction in the near future Mr. and Mrs. R. M.
