SEMI - WEEKLY JOURNAL Returns To Washington Frank Gradoville, who hafs been SDendine the past two weeks in this city and 'vicinity with the relatives' and friends, , departed Friday, ;. for ' Washington, D. C, there he. is en gaged in government work.1. Mr. Gradoville is engaged in the sugar administration of the department of agriculture and has been with that part of the department since going to Washington, serving, a part of the time in the Fhillipines in. the sugar work. , ' His stay here has largely been with his mother, Mrs. C. E 'Grado ville. and the other relatives in this section . 1 . v . While here he has been a guest of several of the family, 1 a dinner party being held on last Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Todd, near Murray. On Thursday Mr. Gradoville and the mother had an afternoon dinner and visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Blotzer near Mynard and on Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gradoville and family. On Monday, Mr. Gradoville with his mother and sister, Mrs. Timo thy Kahoutek, drove to Grand Is land where they visited with Anton, School Notes . Has Visit Here At the week end Lieutenant Har old Huestis, former teacher in the local high school, was here for a short visit, he having a furlough from his post at Fort Sill, Okla homa, where he is now serving as an instructor. Saturday he drove to Lincoln and was accompanied by Mrs. John Howard Davis and daughter, Carol Ruth, and Miss Sylvia Korbel, of the local school faculty. The F. C. C. said the order was issued on the basis of the company's own reported figures indicating that the Department is earning on net book investment at the rate of 24.37 percent annually before federal in come taxes, and the net of 14.92 per cent after the new 1942 federal nor mal taxes and surtaxes. The F. C. C. order requires the company to submit an answer by De cember 1st and to appear at a hearing on December 16 th. Receives Promotion LEHMAN TO NEW POST Washington, Nov. 21 (UP) The White House announced today that Governor Herbert H. Lehman of New York will resign as governor on or about December 3rd to become' Di rector of Foreign Relief and Rehabil itation operations under the State De partment. "Governor Lehman will undertake the work of organizing American par ticipation in the activities of the un ited nations in furnishing relief and other assistance to the victims of war in the areas reoccupied by the forces of the united nation's, the White House said. This is a step in the President's program of mobilizing the available resources of this country in food, clo thing, medical supplies and other necessities for foreign relief. "Governor Lehman's appointment assures that this country will play its part in such efforts," the White House said. The Administration contemplates that American relief supplies shall follow our troops step by step as they move forward in the battle to liberate occupied country Harold E. Kennedy, Co. D., 322 nd infantry at Camp Rucker. Ala bama, has been promoted from pri vate first class to corporal, and he is now in charge as squad leader of the No. 1 squad. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Kennedy, of Murray, and his many friends will be pleased to learn of his pro motion. Previous to entering the army he was a member of the Civilian Con servation Corps and acquired a great deal of experience in this group as a supply sargeant and a leader in the group to which he was attached. Before his induction into the army he was working, on sev eral stock ranches in Wyoming, among them the Moore Sheep & Cattle Co., and the Eurke Sheep Co., two of the largest individually owned ranches in the West. On Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the First Methodist church, Ne braska City, occurred the marriage of Miss Bette Butz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Butz, to Elwood Younker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Younker, of Union. Rev. W. M. Parker pastor of the church read the marriage lines. The bride wore a dres3 of rust silk crepe with royal blue accessor ies. She was attended by Miss Doris Jeanne Cushing who was dressed in black silk net and black velvet. The bride's flowers were white carna tions, and Miss Cushing wore pink roses. Howard Younker attended his brother as best man. A reception immediately follow ing the ceremony was given by Mr. and Mrs. Troy Cushing at their home, 1422 Thirteenth corso. The bride graduated from Ne braska City High school with the class of 1942. She was editor of Ne braska City High School Otoean, attended Girl's state in 1941, and was a member of the National Hon or Society. She is also a member of Job's Daughters. Mr. Younker graduated from Union High school with the class of 1938. He attended a sheet metal school, and is now employed at the Martin bomber plant at Fort Crook. They will live in Plattsmouth. The groom is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Buttery of this city. M FRESH OYSTERS Secures New Stenographer Here From Fort Meade Corporal Lester Reeves, who has been stationed at Fort Meade, South Dakota, since entering the service over two years ago, is home for a visit with his mother, Mrs. W. O. Reeves, and other relatives and old friends. The young man is a mem ber of the mechanized cavalry unit that has been built up at the Da kota post and was recently in Oma ha for an exhibition. He likes the mechanized service very much. Called By Illness D. M. Babbitt of this city, with his son, Hubert, departed this morn ing for Council Bluffs, Iowa. They were called there by the illness of Frank Babbitt, father of D. M., who suffered a heart attack Sunday and whose health has not been the best. Mr. Babbitt will remain with the father a few days while Hubert fpent the day with the grandfather. On Honor Roll Muscled Into R. R. Included on the Dean's Honor roll at Kemper Military School, Boonville, Missouri, for the second grade month was C. J. Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs Scarl S Davis, 604 N. 5th St., and J. M. Soennichsen, grandson of H. M. Soennichsen, Plattsmouth. Nebraska. To make the honor roll boys must have an average in all scholastic subjects of 87 or better. County Attorney Walter II. Smith has serving as his new stenographer. Miss Virginia Bierl, one of the mem bers of the class of 1942 of the local school. Miss Bierl is one of the pop ular young ladies of the community and her many friends will be pleased to learn of her new position. London, Nov. 21 U. P. Mrs. Harley Minniear, who has been ill for the past ten days from an attack of pneumonia, was taken to Omaha last evening in the Cald well ambulance and placed in the Me thodist hospital. The patient had not rallied as hoped from the illness and i it was decided that the hospitaliza tion might improve her condition.
