Miss Hall was employed at the Journal office for the past year and was very efficient in her work as stenographer and operator of the United Press wire service for the pa per. While regretting to leave the newspaper office she has found the opportunity of the new position much greater and with added chances of advancement. " ties into small apartments offering housing accomodations for war work ers is a patriotic as well .as profit able move said Holger Holm, state di rector, Federal .Housing Administra tion, today. The conversion of these older pro perties is providing living accomo dations at a speed, economy, and sav ing of critical materials that would be impossible through new construc tion. It is much easier and faster to take a large home that is in reason ably sound condition and turn it into a four-family apartment dwelling, for instance, than it would be to start from scratch to build a house providing that many units. The need for housing accomoda tions for war workers is vital. These people must be housed, if war indus try plants are to be kept at peak pro duction. And the quickest and easiest way to provide many accomodations for war workers is vital. These people must be housed, If war industry plants are to be kept at peak production And the quickest and easiest way to provide many accomodations is through the conversion of existing homes. The wartime curb on new building has reached the point where new construction alone cannot be re lied upon to provide the necessary housing for war workers. But even if materials were available, the need for accomodations is so immediate that in many areas the time required for new construction cannot be spar ed. The older homes, in most instances have the advantages of all necessary utility connections, and many are located convenient to public trans portation systems. Usually they call for far less in the amount of critical materials needed to put them in con condition. While a recently inaugurated pro gram provides for the conversion of existing home properties through the use of Federal funds, Government housing officials also point out that much of this type-ofork jean be fi nanced with private capital. Property owners and private lending institu tions are being urged to cooperate in the task of providing housing for war workers through the converting of existing homes. If you are the owner of a large property, located in a war industry area, and that is only partially oc cupied, you have a direct responsibil ity to make part of that space avail able to war workers. For full infor mation as to financing and how to convert your home, apply at your lo cal FHA office, or any lending institu tion qualified by the FHA to make In-1 sured loans.
