Grand Officers Visit Local Bethel Of Job's Daughters Banquet Enjoyed by the Members and their Fathers Traveling Gavel Is Presented The Job's Daughters honored their grand guardian, Mrs. Ethel Worden, Ogallala, and other grand officials at a special banquet Tuesday evening at the Masonic temple. In evidence at the meeting was the famous traveling gavel brought by Mrs. Worden. This gavel has seen service in many Bethels throughout the state. During times of normal transportation the gavel remained at the Bethel where last used, until members of that Bethel visited an other Bethel. Now it is taken to the next Bethel by the grand guardian. Other state officials at the meeting were Mrs. Pauline Linn the vice Grand Guardian; Mrs. Edith Owens, grand secretary; Mrs. Vir ginia Kunold, grand chaplain, all of Omaha. A number of Omaha members were also there. Following the banquet the initia tion of a large class of new members took place. Maxine Nielson Bowman presided over the affair as honored queen. She set the program under way after receiving the traveling ga vel from the grand . guardian. With the gavel tlje grand guardian brought gifts for the line members sent from the last Bethel visited. Mr. Mullen is working at a super market of the A & P company and has a very nice position. She reports that there has been a great deal of building, homes being erected for defense workers all over the city, the Lon Henry family have one of the new homes. The Ross Bourne and Rex Bourne families live at Linda Vista, three miles from the Mullen home. Saff Sergeant Jones Home Last evening Staff Sergeant James H. Jones, of the U. S. air corps, ar rived home from Walla Walla, Wash ington, being called here by the death of his sister, Mrs. Thelma Elder. Ser geant Jones is a graduate of the aer ial gunner school and since gradua tion has been transferred to the Wash ington air center. He will enjoy a short visit here with his mother Mrs. Edna Jones and his brother, Morle Jones and family. Installs Pressure System Marion Hobson, local well man, has been busy this week in the prepara tion for the installing of a pressure water plant at the farm of Art Troop, south of the city. Mrs. Harley Smith returned from Kansas City last Sunday evening where she had been recuperating from a recent operation at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lee Peters. Miss Florence West and her room mate, who is a pilot, flew from Des Moines, Iowa to Lincoln last week end and came out to Eagle where they enjoyed a visit at the home of Miss West's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phillips and daughters motored to Venus last Wed nesday where they enjoyed a visit with relatives and also gave Mr. Phillips an opportunity to hunt. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olds of Stock ton, California arrived Sunday and will visit Mrs. Olds' mother, Mrs. Ida Oberle and sons. Mr. .and Mrs. Glen Crandell and Eldon spent last Sunday with rela tives near Otoe. Mr. and Mrs. George Althouse and Inez, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Althouse, Mrs. S. E. Allen and Mrs. R. B. Mor gan were in Lincoln last Sunday as the dinner guests of Mrs. Keith Alt house. Mr. and Mrs.. C. O. - Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hite spent Sun day with relatives and friends near Walton. Rev. and Mrs. Morey, Mrs. Isabel Jack, Mrs. Clyde West. Mrs". Vernon Hinebaugh, Mrs.. Emma Judkins, and Miss Dorothea Keil attended the Sun day school convention held at the Methodist church at Weeping Water on Friday of last week. Boys In Service Corporal Dale Fleischman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fleischman complet ed his training in airplane mechanics at New Orleans, La., the latter part of July. About August 1st he was transferred to Shreveport, La. where he is now serving as assistant Crew Chief. Orville Muenchau has been recent ly transferred to Fort Logan near Denver, Colorado. Keith Trumble has been transfer red from Florida to Camp Kessler, Miss., where he expects to receive his special training. Hubert Stanley, brother of Mrs. Sherman Henriksen has been induct ed Into-the army recently and is lo cated in a camp in Utah. Truck Crashes Car Last evening Sheriff Joe Mrasek was called to Union to investigate a small truck-car crash that had oc curred near; the elevator on the north side of the town. The car of Ivan P. Balfour had been left parked north and east of the eleva tor and a 1931: Ford , truck, driven by W. II. Lewis, of Nebraska City, came around the corner, and struck the i car, doing some damage. Senator AT LOUISVILLE Wed. night Oct. 28th, 1942 Elmwood By Tonrrml Field Representative Miss Nila Duessing and Miss Fishi er, teachers in the Thrston schools, were guests last Sunday of Miss Rose Mitchell at the W. W. Coatman home. The young ladies were college chums before going into the teaching pro fessison. Harry T. Greene was called to Jo liet, Illinois, the forepart of last week to the factory of the wallpaper com pany which he represents. He remain ed the greater part of the week and was much impressed with the new line of paper. Mrs. Harry Greene took care of the Greene Pharmacy last Wednesday while Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Green were in Omaha making the purchase of i their Christmas goods. j Mr. and Mrs. Harry Williams, Mrs. Carl Schneider, the postmistress at Elmwood, and Mr. L. F. Langhorst and his daughter, Miss Ethel, com prised a party that went to Platts mouth last Sunday to celebrate the birthday of Janet and Janice, the twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Reeder. Some twelve of the young people of Elmwood were in Lincoln last Sunday and suffered a accident due to the mis-appliance of brakes on the car. All of them were injured to some extent and were taken to a Lincoln hospital for treatment. Three of the party were allowed to return home and three of the young ladies and six of the young men had to remain at the hospital for a number of days. Better luck the next time. The football team of the Douglas high school came to Elmwood last Wednesday afternoon and played a friendly game on the new Elmwood gridiron. There was a good attend ance and the game was thoroughly enjoped in spite of the fact that the final score was Douglas 33 and Elm wood 6. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Stanton and their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Maurer of Omaha, went to Clarkson last Saturday evening where they hunted pheasants early Sunday morning. Guests at the W. W. Coatman home last Friday were Mrs. Royal Alber of Shenandoah, Iowa. Mrs. Mar tin Zoz, Mrs. Lee Coatman. Thank you, Norman Bornemeier. We were hitchhiking last Wednes day when our car objected to run ning on three tires. Just before nightfall when we were wondering if we would have' to remain over night, Mr. Bornemeier offered a ride to Plattsmouth as he was on his way to Omaha with a load of stock. The ride home was much appreci ated.
