SOCIAL EVENTS Entertain Friends Miss Hazel Dovey, who is an in structor in the Canton, Canada, high school, gave a luncheon for a group of her friends Saturday. The group dined and visited in the Venetian room of the Hotel Plattsmouth. Novel place cards were arranged on the tables adorned with beautiful zen nias. Each guest was given a prize. Enjoy Bridge Party A party, consisting of two tables of bridge, was held last night at the home of Mrs. Theodore Ptak. Mrs. Mary Eaton won first prize, and Mrs. George Jaeger won second prize. Guests were Mrs. Walter Smith and. -Mrs. Mary Eaton. Store Employees Picnic Employees from the Knorr Va riety Store and the Ladies Toggery joined hands and held apicnic yes terday evening at Roy Knorr's farm southwest of Plattsmouth. Besides the regular picnic activities they played ball and other games. Usually Mr. Knorr and Mr. Busch get to gether with their employees for such a picnic once a year. Celebrate Father's Birthday Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Franzen and daughters, Mary, Jean and Dorothy, of Omaha, were visitors at the home of Mrs. Franzen's 'parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Briggs, Sunday afternoon. The party motored down from the metropolis to help Mr. Briggs cele brate his 83rd birthday anniversary, he being born Aug. 2, 1859. Mr. Briggs has lived in Plattsmouth over 50 years and has been active in business, lodge and church affairs the entire time, except for two brief periods when he was in business in Iowa, once at Perry and once at Salem, both times of less than two years duration. M. S. "Milo" says he is feeling fine and as he continues about his work, it is apparent that there is truth in his statement. Married at Scottsbluff The marriage of Miss Gertrude F. Kennedy, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. I. L. Kennedy, and Kermit F. Ault, son of Mrs. B. I. Ault, of Alma, Ne braska, took place on Saturday, July 25, 1942, at ScottsblufT. Mr. Ault is employed by Peter Kiewet & Co., on their construction program at Fort Crook, and they are making their home in Plattsmouth t the Texsley apartments. Return from California Mrs. Howard McGrath and little son, Mikie, who have been visiting in California, arrived at their home in Omaha last Friday night. Mr. Mc Grath made the trip to California with his wife but preceded her on the return journeya week ago. Mrs. McGrath stopped at Colorado Springs, Colo., to accompany het grandmoth er, Mrs. C. E. A considerable number of instances of lost books have come to the attention of the board and the authorities feel that a warn ing of the resulting; consequences should be made known to the pub lic. Anyone finding a war ration book is urged to turn it in im mediately. Louisville Mayor Here f G. W. Hart, mayor of Louisville, was in the city Saturday. He is a candidate for county commissioner in the second district on the repub lican ticket. "Bill" as he is better known, also has just been named Air Raid Commander of Louisville and immediate area, the meeting to fix the organization being held on Thursday night. He is well known over the district and has been busy meeting the friends through that sec tion of Cass county. Young Sailor Home Harvey Noell, who enlisted in the United States navy some six months ago, is home for a short visit with his relatives and old time friends. He has been at the naval training sta tion at San Diego, Calif., and on his return will be assigned for active duty as he has completed the train ing period. Returns from Hospital Joss Green, who has been in Oma ha undergoing hospitalization, re turned home the last of the week. PRIMARY AUGUST 11TK APPEAL TO TRUCK OWNERS The need of more trucks for the volunteer workers on the second scrap drive is apparent. The special day last week showed that more trucks could be used and were bad ly needed. Chairman Don Seiver of the local scrap committee, is appealing to all who have trucks that they can donate for the day to get in touch with him at phone 128 or 465. There is promise of a great deal more scrap for the pile at Chi cago avenue and Seventh street that is hoped to have all rounded up by Saturday night when the drive closes. The committee has set Thursday, August 6th, as the day for the vol unteer solicitation. Fishing Party Returns Mr. and Mrs. Joe Manasek, of Omaha, were here Sunday afternoon and eveiving to visit at the home of their aunt, Mrs. R. A. Bates. They have just returned home from an outing in Minnesota and found the fishing excellent and secured a great many fine catches during the outing. A Misunderstanding I, W. E. A, 129th Infantry, is at home visiting on a five-day leave from his post at Camp Forrest, Tenn.
