Douglas has been very seriously ill at his home in Elmwood for the past week and was still in a critical condition on last Tues day. Every attention as to medical service and nursing is being given the excellent citizen who himself has gone through many a stormy night to the aid of countless suffer ers. His friends are hoping that he mav soon be well again. Celebrates Passing Birthday August Krecklow Dies Last Friday, while Fred Flaisch- man, the Manley barber, was shaving William Schliefert, August Kreck jlow entered the barber shop, greet ing the two gentlemen who returned jthe salutation. Christian Church Aid The Christian church Ladies Aid held its regular monthly social and business meeting in the church par lors yesterday afternoon, with a good attendance from the membership of the organization. A highly entertain- j ing and interesting program was pre sented under the direction of Mrs. Lester himgan. Donald Sutton gave a reading entitled "A Chance," which was followed with one by his brother, Ronald, whose reading was called "A Speech." Mrs. E. G. Ofe and Mrs. E. F. Himes sang a duet arrangement of the well-loved song of the church, "Take up Thy Cross." They were accompanied by Mrs. O. C. Hudson. Janice and Janet Reeder were high- ily entertaining- in their part of the program. Their first offerings were vocal duets. "Rock-a-Bye-Baby." and the was served by the hostess, Mrs. John Jordan. Mrs. E. F. Himes closed the program with a beautiful dramatization of the life of Annie Laurie which she ended with the song dedicated to this historical character. Mrs. Hudson also played the accom paniment for this offering on the pro gram. The afternoon was closed with a luncheon served by the hostesses of the occasion, Mrs. O. C. Hudson, Mrs. Herbert Nelson, Mrs. Ruel Sack, Miss Alma Moore, Miss Aileen Reed and Miss Helen Minnear. to visit Sister Sheila formerly Miss Constance Rea. Renner, in the south part of the city, was the scene of a pleasant surprise party on Friday evening. Th oc casion was that of the passing of another milestone of the years of Mrs. Norman Renner. Mrs. Renner was very pleasantly surprised when she went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Renner to visit for the evening. The members of the group had hid den and stepped out to surprise Mrs. Renner as she entered the house. Mrs. Renner received many gifts which she will cherish as the years pass by.
