All subscriptions are payable strictly in advance. ii Young People are Among Newcomers at Plattsmouth People Here to Reside and Become Part cf Community Life A nice addition to the Platts mouth young peoples' set has been made with the June arrivals in Plattsmouth. Many of the families followed their menfolks to the city after their schools were out. New residents at the Plattsmouth golf club house are Mr. and Mrs. II. P. Olson and family from Garrison, Minn., Burton, the oldest son, is in the army air corps. Joyce, IS, fin ished high school last year and is interested in trombone. Feme, 16, who will be a senior, was a drum major in Garrison. Another daugh ter, Elaine, and her husband, Stan ley Moe, are with her parents tem porarily. Mr. and Mrs. Olson were married just a year after World War I so she was able to make some vivid comparisons in prices at that time and this. Mr. Olson is on the assembly line at the plant. Another girl who was a drum major comes from Tarkio, Mo., with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Spiegel. Louise finished high school this spring. This is the family's first experience living outside of Tarkio. They are located at the Hough apartments. Mr. Spiegel is employed in the warehouse at the bomber plant. Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Haskell, new arrivals in the Oakmont addition, have three young people in their family. Kearns Post No. 56 of the American Legion held a very interesting session last evening, an open air meeeting staged at the summer cottage of W. It. Holly near the Platte river north of this city. Mrs. E. C. Petsch of Denton, was married in California about seven months ago. Both she and her hus band worked in aircraft before re turning to Nebraska. She hopes to work with her husband in the plant here also. They are fond of swim ming, hunting and fishing and are greatly pleased to be near Merritt's Beach. As recreation, the couple at tended woodworking classes in Inglewood and are proud of a com plete bedroom set they built. Mrs. Petsch will be a nice addition to the vocally talented young people here. They are at home at S02 Ave. F. Another family returning to Ne braska after two years in California are the F. D. Tuckers who are making their home at 1001 Main street. They have an 11 months old son. Gary. Mr. Tucker is employed at the bomber plant and hopes to find time to play golf here. As a hobby they have collected match covers from the various places they've visited and have a display from almost all the states. Plane assembly is especially in teresting to Amel Slaybaugh as he owns a cub plane of his own. He and his wife have spent a great deal of their leisure time flying. Just now their problem is finding a place to store the plane before they bring it from their home in Arispe, Iowa. Mr. Slaybaugh left a mechan ics job to go into defense work. Mrs. Norval Williams and 3-year- Donavon, 9. They come to Nebraska from Peoria, 111. Donna is very much old son, Joel, were having a picnic interested in Girl Scout work and 'dinner on the floor of their trailer home when the hostess called. Joel is especially fond of picnics since their recent visit to their former heme, Beatrice. Mr. Williams is employed at the bomber plant. They joke a great deal about owning a trailer house when they don't have a car but housing shortage made best investment. The space has just a crimp on Mrs. Williams hobby of collecting dishes but otherwise she is enjoying her new home a" great deal. They are parked at the Hueb ner station. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kress come to Plattsmouth from Fort Morgan, time is well taken up by four charm ing daughters. Donna Jean, 6; Shir ley, 5; Jackie Lou, 3, and Arlene Mae, 1. They are living at 902 Lin coln avenue. Also from Colorado and living plans to join here. Doyle hopes to receive some mechanical training in school next year. Mr. Haskell is employed in the tool roomat the bomber plant. . GeoTge McConkay left his ovn machine shop at Corning, Iowa, to go into defense work. He is on the final assembly at the plant and is interested in the American Legion. Mrs. McConkay and their son, George,, jr., are also here. They live at the Herold apartments. George will be in the fifth grade this fall. Mr .and Mrs. J. L. Hodge and son, Merlyn. .9 .come to Plattsmouth from Lyle, Minn. Mr. Ilodgge was formerly a grain elevator manager. The couple is interested in lodge work. Mr. Hodge is also on the final assembly line -at the plant. They also live at the Herold apartments. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Pike. Lugsch apartments, are from Sioux Falls, S. D. Mr. Pike is a former chief of police in Elk Point, S. D. They have one son, Calvin, who is in the Service. Dale, 16, worked at the canning factory this summer. LeRoy, the younger son, is 12. Mr. Pike is a guard at the bomber plant. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Higgins are also buying a home in Oakmont ad dition. They came to Plattsmouth from Burchard. Neb., and Mr. Hig- ! gins is employed on the assembly line at the plant. They have two young children, Lawrence James, 2 years, and Velma Grace, 3 months. Mrs. Higgins is very much inter ested in reading and plans to use our library a great deal. She was born and reared in Omaha, but choose Plattsmouth for her home on her return. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Keys are not strangers in Plattsmouth. Mrs. Keys has never lived here, but is the daughter of Mrs. Ollie Atkinson of this city. They come here from Nebraska City. Mr. Keys is em ployed on the final assembly at the plant. Mr. Keys is a former mem ber of the Eagles lodge. The have a son,. Webb, post adjutant, who has removed from the city and is retiring from the office he has so capably filled. The business session was presided over by Commander K. T. Cutrell and the election of officers was the feature of this part of the program. Mr. Webb read a list of the members of the post that had passed away and including two past command ers, W. H. Shopp and H. G. Soen nichsen. The election was most harmonious and all of the officers named by acclamation by the members, the list-comprising the following: Commander Frank M. Rice. Senior Vice-Commander E. O. Vroman. Junior Vice-Commander James Lepert. Members of the Executive Com mittee H. T. Cuthrell. W. R. Holly, John E Turner, Leo Boynton, Dr. L. F. Fitch, L. S. Devoe, Edward Ofe, Fred Herfcster, Fred Lugsch. The newly elected officers were then very impressively installed by R. C. Patterson, department adju tant of the American Legion of Ne braska. Mr. Patterson also talked biiefly on the matter of the obser vance of the 25th anniversary of the American Legion and the special features that will be used in dis tinguishing the anniversary among the members. The local post also received a party of the American Legion mem beis. Commander Charles Attebery, Ii. B. Schibler. past county com mander, James Hamilton, Gene Roddy, Simon Gruber, Ray Bramb lett, Harry Gabelman, of Union post, the youngest of the Legion groups of the county and one of the most active. Judge A? II. Duxbury, post ser vice officers for some twenty years. From Thursday's Daily By United Press New recruits were mobilized today in the state-wide scrap metal drive as State WPA Administrator Dwight D. Felt on offered the services of his organization, and a women's division cf the salvage contest was appointed. Felton indicated that by the end of the week more than 200 WPA workers would be' employed on sal vage projects. He said that salvage crews have recently been working around West Point, Beatrice and Hebron. "There must be thousands of tons of scrap metal scattered around the state. It is the duty of every Ne braskan to help uncover this salvage and see that the metal and rubber stocks are put to work," Felton said. Meanwhile, W. F. Roberts, secre tary and coordinator for the Nebras ka advisory defense committee, an nounced the appointment of Mrs. George Grimes of Omaha as chairman of the women's division of the salvage contest. The women's division will have a chairman in each county, will spon sor special contests for women's or ganizations. Mrs. Grimes, in a letter to the women selected as county chairmen, pointed out the more obvious places Women to Report for Duty DES MOINES, July 18 (UP) Forty-four women from the Seventh Corps Area including four negroes were scheduled to report Monday as the first officer candidate school of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps gets under way at Fort Des Moines. Candidates from Nebraska are Miss Mary Ruth Lebow, Omaha, Miss Helen Louise Sagl, Lincoln, Miss Charline Jane May, Falls City, and Mrs. Gertrude Jaqueline Peebles of Omaha. Legion Auxiliary Committees Are Selected for Year Very Interesting Business Session v and Delegates to the State Con V ven ion are Named NOTICE TO CREDITORS Cass County Fair Will be Held in Mid September From Thursday's Daily Three Days Will be Given Over to Annual Event at Weeping Water; 4-H Clubs Featured The official board of the Cass coun ty fair association were busy this week in making plans for the annual fair that has been set for September 16, 17 and 18. This year the work of the 4-H clubs over the county, both boys and girls activities will highlight the fair although the other departments will be presented as usual with open classes in all save the livestock department. The American Legion Auxiliary met Friday at 2 p. m. at Garfield Park for a picnic, following which the members held a business meet ing. Delegates to attend the state American Legion convention to be held in Omaha August 23, 24, and 25 were nominated. Those making the trip are Mrs. Charles Nelson, president of the auxiliary; Mrs. Ed gar Glaze, acting secretary; Mrs. Fay McClintock, Mrs. George Conis and Mrs. H. L. Gayer. Victorettes Entertain hope to one day be Boy Scouts, has increased its members from 6 to 27 in a year's time. These boys are proud to announce that they have gathered one thousand pounds of scrap metal, and are now looking for scrap rubber. The boys are divided into three groups. He is a member of the group that has been taking special radio work and likes his work in the army very much and has made many warm friends in his associations. The young soldier is looking fine and certainly makes a good soldier in every respect. Young Soldier Home From Thursday's Daily Last evening Stuart Gochenour, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gochenour, arrived home for a fcr Iough. visit at his home and with bis parents. He has been in the army for the past ten months and is now stationed at Sault Ste Marie, in northern Michigan, and is still a member of the barrage balloon bat tery with which he trained at Camp Tyson, Tennessee, when first in ducted in the army.
