UNION ITER2S By Journal Field Represenfatfre Receives Large Rubber Supply In accordance with the request of President Roosevelt, people have been responding liberally at Union and vicinity. Edward Midkiff who has been receiving scrap rubber has received over a ton on Monday and still coming in. Should other places respond as favorably as this vicinity there will be millions of tons of rubber received in a few days, and may solve the problem of the ration ing of gasoline. , , . - Returned To Camp in South Arthur Foster, son of R. E. Foster who has been on a vacation from Camp Polk, La.,' returned to his training Saturday. Jerry Frans, who is stationed at Camp Polk, La., arrived in Union for a furlough, visiting at the home of W. C. Carrier and family and with his many friends. He and Arthur Foster expect to be trans ferred some time soon but has no idea where they will be sent. Has Short Letter From Son Elmer Wuthrow and wife receiv ed a letter from, their son.. Elmer Jr., better known as ""Tuggles" with only niegar information,, .and not knowing from where the letter came, stated "I am all right, wish I could write oftener and tell you i more, but I can't". Are Called To The Colors Three young men of Union have been called to the colors and are to report, for induction on June 23, They are John Finkle, of Weeping Water, Charles Clark and Verle Acklay, both of Union. Returns- From the West Miss Lois Fitzpatrick, who, has been living at Los Angeles for some time has been visiting with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Fitzpat rick. First Open Air Service The first open air service of the season was held Sunday evening at the open air station just off Main street. The services were conducted by Rev. W. D. Lenker, pastor of the Methodist church at Nehawka and Weeping Water. Not Feeling So Well P. E Relu of the Quality Store was ill Saturday and Sunday, but is repoirted as better at thi3 writ ing. Howard Snodgrass subtituted for him" at the store. Union Man Seriously Injured Wm. Brooks, husband of the farmer Jane Christian, received a message from the government in forming her of her husband's in juries, but did dnqt say just how bodly he was injured. Cj E. Morris received word from his brother, Si, of Ashland, that he had suffereda heart attack, but found him somewhat improved on Sunday. Homer Clark, son of Wm. Clark, arrived in Union from San Antonoa, Texas, and is visiting with his grandmother Mrs. Risella Clark and his many friends for a short time. Lester Schumacher and family of Nebraska City, where he is employ ed with the Missouri Pacific, was in Union Sunday -visiting at the home of Mrs. Schumacher's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Griffin. Nannie McCauley of Weeping Water' accompanied Rev. W. D. Lenker to Union. Sunday, and visit ed during the evening at the home of Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Taylor. Tip" Edmiston father of Mrs. Gil bert Edmunds of Peru, visited in Union a few days'with his daughter and family, "and with W. A. Taylor. Dan Sudduth who is "selling in surance was in Union, Monday, and in Plattsmouth and Omaha on Tues day. Mr. and Mrs. Sudduth were in Plattsmouth to visit their son Don old and family,, who recently sold their property, and are buying, a nome in. Omaha, where they will be near hid work.at'Fort Crook, ' 'Otto Ehlers and family visited Sunday at the home "of Mrs. A. L. Becker. Miss Pearl Banning entertained the ladies card club at her home last Friday. Ted Sandedrs who has been em ployed by the Missouri Pacific at this place, has been transferred to Falls City. Word from Lucean Banning tells us that he is stationed at Jefferson Barracks, near St. Louis, and likes camp life very well. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Freeman of Avoca were visiting Sunday at the home of Mrs. Freeman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Midkiff. ; Mr. and Mrs. Carl 'Peters of Ne braska City were Sunday dinner quests at the home of Mrs. Peters parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Banning. Henry H. Becker and dson Don ald, F. L. Anderson and son Ben, all of . whom are. working at Wahoo, visited over the week end at home, returning to work Monday morning. 'Roy Eecker of south of Union, accompanied by his wife and daughter Mary Ann. spent Sunday at the home of Roy's mother. Mrs. A. L. Becker, and enjoyed a splend id visit and excellent dinner. Mrs. Maria Barrit was feeling poorly for a number of days during the past week, but is reported better at this writing.
