John and Dick Fischer of near Eagle have been assisting their mother with the care of their father. Friends hope to hear a better report from Mr. Fischer soon. Mrs. Don McKinnon entertained club members at her home last week. Several ladies were present and en jjoyed a very entertaining after noon and delicious lunch. Henry Miller who lives alone, went out to his son's home, Archie Miller, to spend the remainder of the winter. Dr. Fletcher, veterinarian from Ashland was called to Alvo Satur day. He was forced to drive to Lin coln to reach Alvo due to closed roads. This week-end marks the close of the first school semester. The schol ars are already getting their sub jects lined up for the new semes-tion ters work. Exams were held at the close of the semester. Several school children had to be absent from school because of closed roads last weekj Entertains Club Mrs. J. W. Banning was hostess to the Reading club Thursday after noon at her home. Fifteen members were present to enjojy a pleasant event. Mrs. Earl Dreamer gave a very interesting report on "Books of the Year" and Mrs. Stroemer told much about the book "Berlin Dairy " All proved very interesting to the club members. Mrs. Rehmeier was a guest. Very delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. w. s. c. s. The W. S. C. S. ladies met at the home of Mrs. J. B. Elliott, Jr., Wed nesday afternoon. Eighteen ladies were present in spite of the sub-zero weather. Many were so badly closed that they required the larger snow plows and because there are so few of them in the county work was slow. Milk truck drivers, mail carriers, school bus driveis were unable to make their routes; in fact for sev eral hours the trains could not make their route either. But at this time the condition is much improved through much effort of the people's cooperation with the road people. John Deere Day J. B. Elliott Jr., the local hard ware and implement dealer, held his annual John Deers day, Monday at Legion Hall in town. The usual free lunch and picture shows were free to the public. This has been made possible by the state health department who will furnish the vaccine; local health unit will furnish the necessary equipment and set up a clinic at school and secure the services of a nurse to assist; Dr. Liston agreed to come to the local school to give the vaccine; and the cooperation of the school patrons and financial aid that they could give. Here From South Dakota Mr. and Mrs. Ed Peterson of South Dakota and little daughter Nancy were here visiting relatives during the holidays. They left last week for their Dakota home.
