Waldo Ncnstiel, manager of the Continental Grain Elevator was a business visitor in Murdork last i Thursday. Agnes Kettelhut returned from the Bryan Memorial hospital last Wednesday afternoon after having been there for a week under obser vation. John Root left Friday morning for California where he will join Mrs. Hoot and Viola for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Root. Hymn Phillips of Missouri Valley, Iowa, spent Friday evening with his brother, Robert Phillips and Mrs. Phillips and daughters. Miss Florence West of Fort Madi son, Iowa, is spending her Christ mas vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde West. Miss Jennie Olson of Chicago ar rived last Friday evening and will visit her sister, Mrs. Isabel Jack and sons and other relatives. She plans to leave for Chicago Christmas day. Miss Aletha Tyson, who teaches at Torrington, Wyoming, is visiting her sisters. Mrs. Stephen Taylor and family of Lincoln and Mrs. Ira Stall and Mrs. Elmer Frohlich and their families. The Methodist choir presented the Christmas cantata. "The Glory of God" at the church last Sunday eve ning. Miss Edith Robertson, who teaches at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, return ed to Easle Saturday and will spend her holiday vacation with her moth er. Mrs. Myrtle Robertson and fam ily. j t Merlin Schwegman was recently discharged from Camp Shelby, where he was stationed with the U. S. army and has been visiting home folks, lie and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Schwegman plan to spend the holiday in California with Mr. and Mrs. Rearden and family. Mrs. Rearden is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Schwegman. Mrs. Russel Colbert is here visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward Gerhard and Glendon and other relatives. Lowell Lytic went to Omaha the first of last week and re-enlisted in the U. S. navy. Mrs. Emma L. Judkins left for Minneapolis, Minnesota, last Friday where she will spend the winter months with her daughter, Mrs. Howard Ankeny. W. C. T. U. Entertained Mrs. Jesse Wall entertained the W. C. T. U. at her home last Friday aftrenoon. Mrs. Joe Rudolph was a welcome guest. Mrs. Sarah Keil led the devotionals and each member answered roll call by giving a Nebraska Anecdote. The lesson. "Christmas Observ ance" was led by Mrs. Isabel Jack. There was an exchange of gifts and each member was presented a bag of candy and nuts. The hostess served delicious re freshments. Obituary of Mr. Currah Joseph Cyrus Currah was born March 22, 1872 in Lafayette county. He was one of ten children of the family of John Emer son and Anne Robson Currah. He came to Nebraska with his parents on Thanksgiving day, 1876, and lived near Elmwood for a few years, then moved with the family to their farm a mile west of Unadilla, Ne braska. There the Currah family made their home until after the mother's death in 1912. From 1912 to 1927 he farmed his ranch in Wyo ming. Since that time he has made his home with his nephews and nieces helping with the work on the farm. He was with Voyal Wall for several years. Since his health failed he has made his home with the Robertsons and it was there he quietly slipped away to his home in heaven at dawn December 19th. He was a quiet, home loving man and he loved little children, espe cially Virginia Wall. At one time he was a member of the I. O. O. F. He leaves an invalid sister in Lin coln, and several nieces and neph ews and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at Rob erts Chapel in Lincoln Sunday after noon, December 21st, and he was laid to rest in the Currah family lot in the Unadilla cemetery. Rev. Price of Lincoln, a college class mates, officiated, choosing the pass age 'I am the resurrection and the life" for his text. A nephew sang "The City Four Square" and 'That Heaven Cannot Save-." Eastern Star Kensington The Eastern Star Kensington en joyed a one o'clock luncheon at the tome of Mrs. E. C. Oberle on Wed nesday of last week. There was a short business meeting during the afternoon and an exchange of gifts. SAILOR ARRIVES HERE FOR SECOND VISIT WITH MOTHER Albin E. Chovanec, who has been in the United States navy for three months, surprised his mother and sister early Monday morning by ar riving for an extended visit with them and other relatives and friends. Here on delayed orders, the sailor youth expects to remain until the middle of January. He has to re port at Toledo, Ohio, on January 17, when he will enter trade school. Just recently he enjoyed a visit with an old schoolmate at Chicago Donald Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Martin. "Ham" was here for a brief visit a short time before the Thanksgiv ing Day holiday season, and this makes his second furlough granted within a month. While here he ex pects to participate in a large num ber of social events with the younger social set. HERE FROM ARKANSAS From Tuesday s Dalty Attorney Otto E. Trilety, who has been located at Little Rock, Ark., with the United States department of justice, is to arrive this evening to spend the holidays with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Trilety, as well as the other relatives and old friends. HOLIDAY VISITORS John Pissing, of Hays, Kansas, arrived here Monday for a visit at the home of his sister, Mrs. F. I. Rea, and family over the holiday season. Miss Alice Rea, who has been visit ing with relatives at Lawrence, Kan sas, also has returned home for over Christmas. Hughes, of - Mexico City Visit Friends ; Mr. Hughes American Consul ' Monday Mr. and Mrs. Morris E. Hughes, of Mexico City, vere here for a short time as guests at the homo of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Cloidt, Mrs. Hughes, the former Cal ista Cooper of Humboldt, Nebraska, being a classmate of Maxine Cloidt at the University of Nebraska. Mr. Hughes is the United States consul at Mexico City, one of the very important posts at this time When the United States and Mexico are closely allied against axis in terests. He has had a very varied exper ience in the United States consular service that has covered the greater part of the world, he being one of the career representatives of the dip lomatic service. Previously he was located at Tokyo, Japan, then at Tir rana, Albania, later to Addis Abeba Ethiopia, being There when the country ws taken over by the Ital ians, who have since been forced out of the country. He has been in Mex ico City since leaving the African post. This dish caflj for celery soup: Creamed Shrimps in Celery Sauci 1 tablespoon butter 1 tablespoon flour ai cup milk i cup cream 1 can condensed celery soup 'i teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce 2 cups cooked shrimps Cook the flour in the melted butter until frothy. Then add the milk and cream and cook until thickened. Add the remaining in gredients and heat to 'dend the flavors. Serve on toast or spoon them into popovers. Makes enough i for 6-8. HAS EAD EXPERIENCE Sunday morning Sheriff Joe Mrasek was visited by a young man who was hitch-hiking from Fort Crook to this city and related a strange story of his experience at the hands of two unknown men from 'hom he had thumbed a ride. He had been waiting to secure a ride near Fort Crook and when two men in a Model A Ford coach came along and he had asked them if they were going to Plattsmouth and they offered him a ride. On reaching here the men had driven the car east across the Granite street viaduct, as he states, past, a turn and up hill. They had then proceeded to take the baggage of the hitch-hiker and also stripped him in an effort to located any money that he might have. They had restored his clothes and made their getaway. lie could not identify the spot of the holdup or the license number of the car, only that it had been a Model A coach. SHERIFF CALLED TO UNION Sheriff Joe Mrasek was called to Union Sunday by a report that three men were seen around the bridge of the Missouri Pacific railroad that spans the Weeping Water creek south of town. The sheriff found on his arrival three young men from John son. Arkansas, Bill Cordell, Edward Phillips, Eugene Bailey, comprising the trio. The young men had been here and wired their relatives for carfare that was received here later and the sheriff asked to look up the trio. In the meantime the young men had started ona hike and reached Union and decided to build a fire to warm up and prepare food and were engaged in this when the sheriff was notified. They received their funds and went on their way to the south land. HERE FOR THE HOLIDAYS Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cross, of Pe oria, Illinois, are here to enjoy the holiday season at the home of Mrs. Cross' parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Sullivan and also with the Newton Sullivan and Ralph Sullivan fam ilies. They will enjoy the Christmas day at the Newton Sullivan home. CASE Phone 199 or 268-J Mrs. Catherine Flynn, Former Resident Dies Prominent Figure in Religious anamination and allowance of his admin Social Life of Plattsmouth ; Funeral Held This Morning Pvnm TndHys PaTYJ Funeral services were held this morning at 9 o'clock at the St. Ce celia cathedral in Omaha, for Mrs. Catherine T. Flynn, 62, a resident of Plattsmo'Uh for a number of years while her deceased husband. Dr. P. J. Flynn, was in practice here. Mrs. Flynn has made her home in Omaha for a number of years and at the time of her death was em ployed in the internal revenue de partment at the Omaha office. Taken sudden ill Saturday she was operated on Sunday and passed avay shortly after the emergency operation. Mrs. Flynn was a very active figure in the social and religious life of the community through the years of her residence. She was the first grand regent of Our Lady Loretta court of the Catholic Daughters of Amer ica, serving in that capacity for sev eral years. In 1927 she was elected as grand regent of the Catholic Daughters in Nebraska as a recog nition of her splendid work in the order. In the years 1924-25-2-6 she was the president of the Plattsmouth Woman's club and during her resi dence here was a very active worker. There survives her passing two rons. Allison Flynn, Omaha, Damian O'Flynn, Hollywood actor; two daughters, Catherine, Hollywood; Mrs. Richard Moran, Omaha. Mrs. Flynn was a native of O'Neill. Nebraska, where the family resided for several years before coming to this city. POLICE COURT ACTIVE Monday was a very busy day for Judge C. L. Graves as several traf fic cases were on tap for his con sideration. Louis C. Myers, Nebraska City, was arrested by members of the city police force and was released on a cash bond of $2, this being forfeited in court yesterday. The rash bond of $5 held by the city police for Norman Carl Jones of Council Bluffs, was also forfeited in court. The man. had been arrest ed on charges of speeding and pass ing a stop sign.
