Steffan left Sunday for Denver to visit her daughter, Mrs. White. The eighth grr.de will hold their class party Saturday night at the school. Mrs. Charles Whetstone entered an Omaha hospital Wednesday for a ma jor operation. Mrs. John Frazeur has returned from the hospital to the home of her son Jess Frazeur. Captain Albert Odell. stationed at Camp Leonard Wood, spent the week-end at home. Miss Elizabeth Bartling and Mr. Virgil Woodside visited the Free mans Thanksgiving. Mr. and Mrs. G. II. Agans spent Thanksgiving with Mr. Agans' par ents in Murray, Iowa. Ralph Huntley who has been sta tioned at Cheyenne has been trans ferred to Leonard Wood. Mrs. Dexter Byrne expects to give another course in mattress making Monday ut the school house, y Mrs. Albert Staats of Lincoln, whose father is in an Omaha hospital is staying with Mrs. G. II. Agans. The Jewell Improvement club will meet December 12 at the home of Mrs. Chris Hansen for a Christmas party. Miss Blanche Freeman of Auburn spent the Thanksgiving week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. II. Freeman. Virginia M( Corkindale, Bonnie Ditstin and Lorraine Bennett were home from the university over the week-end. Ydeen spent spent Sunday in 'Rosalie, Nebr. Mr. H. W. Frushard is critically ill in an Omaha hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cunningham and family and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Daniels and son, of Plattsmouth, vis ited relatives at Washta, Iowa, last Thursday. The school board faculty party will be held Tuesday evening at the school. St. Mary's Sunday Masses at S and 10 a. m. Catechism class follows the 8 o'clock Mass Sunday morning. Rev. R. J. VISITED IN COLORADO SPENT THURSDAY IN LYONS The Donald Prather family spent the Thanksgiving week-end in Fort Collins, Colorado, visiting Mrs. Prather's parents. Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Blake. They also spent a day in Estes Park and report it as being very beautiful under a heavy snow. They saw a great many deer and antelope and a number of hunters, very conspicuous in their red hats. Much Interest Shown In Mem bership Drive Sewer Rats and Water Snakes in Battle Both Sides Confi dent of Winning. The Sewer Rats and Water Snakes are really working this week. The Bellevue Commercial club will have several hundred members if this con test continues very long. Of course, both sides are confident of winning and Mr. Shallcross says his side will be glad to furnish the aprons for the Sewer Rats to wear while serving the Water Snakes their dinner. On the other hand, Mr. Frazier says his side will have so many new members that the Water Snakes will have to call for help to serve them. The sides are running neck and neck, having a lot of fun, stirring up a fine community spirit, and how about YOU joining now? HEADS CHILD WELFARE LINCOLN Randall C. Biart of Bellevue, executive director of Ne braska Children's Home Society at Omaha, has been named department chairman of Child Welfare for the American Legion. He will co-or- JACK PESTE SERIOUSLY ILL Jack Beste, former Bellevue boy now with the U. S. navy, is seriously ill in Washington. D. C. with a fever contracted in the Hawaiian Islands. He was brought to Washington from Iceland. Morgan Beste, his brother, is also in the navy and has been in the thickest of the submarine fighting and just missed being on the Rueben James. One of his pals went down with the ship. Mr. and Mrs. Rtouffer celebrated Thankipiving Sunday and had as their guests Mr. Bruce Stouffer and family, Merle Stonffer and family, Willard Kentner and family, Mr. Chinnok and Mr. Whitlow. There is no wishful thinking this time. John Sit ts really arrived in Bellevue Tuesday after spending part of Sunday and Monday visiting friends in Chicago on his way here from Statton Island. Mr. Sitts will leave Thursday for Salt Lake City to be with Mrs. Sitts for the Christmas holidays. The Aokiya Woman's club will sponsor a "Bundle for Britain" musi- ATTEND DEBATE AT BENSON The school debate class attended a debate at Benson High in Omaha last week and are planning on going to Central High Friday to hear an other debate. LEGION MEETING DEC. 10 The Martin-Graves post of the American Legion will meet Wednes day, December 10 at S p. m. at the home of J. C. Larson. SIX WOMEN CHOSEN AS COUNCIL FOR GIRL RESERVES The Girl Reserves have asked six women to act as advisors to me club. The council will be directly connected with the Y.W.C.A. in Om aha. The women chosen by the girls are Mesdames Knobbe, Stark, Eaines, Langheine, Irving Shafer and Miss Carrithers. MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETING The Missionary Society will hold Its regular meeting Thursday, Decem ber 11 at the home of Mrs. Rickard. She will be assisted by Mrs. Puis and Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Shallcross and Mrs. Sitts will have the lesson and Mrs. Covington the devotionals. Mr. and Mrs. William Morse and Mrs. Lillian Belanquee were Thanks giving guests of Mr. Morse's mother, Mrs. W. R. Morse in Omaha. Mr. Morse was agreeably surprised when his mother showed colored movies of Richard Morse's wedding in Honolulu. Since none of his fam ily could be present at the wedding Richard sent the film to them. NEER. POWER AND RED CROSS Employes of the Nebraska Power company set a new high record in the 1942 Red Cross membership roll call by subscribing total of $841.50. This was revealed in a letter from J. E. Davidson, company president, which was posted today on all com pany bulletin boards to thank the employes for their generous support of the Red Cross. Every one of the 5. employes liv ing in the smaller towns served by the company contributed an average of more than a dollar each to their local Red Cross roll calls. Mr. Biart is a past commander of the Martin-Graves Post, past county commander and has held many other positions in the Legion, including the department chairmanship of com munity service. He directed the or ganization of FERA in Nebraska and is row entering his seventh year as executive director of Nebraska Chil dren's Home Society. In compliance with the Surplus Commodities Corporation, the Stu dent Council made application for service in the Bellevue public schools, through Mr. Caley, the Sarpy county assistant director. The food is served to all children of the school in the effort to pro mote better health throughout the school and community. This is a state-wide project. Apples have been the commodity so far and are distributed every day. If cooking facilities had been ade quate hot lunches could be given here using surplus commodities and WPA cooks. FIRST BASKETBALL GAME - OF THE SEASON FRIDAY RECEIVES APPOINTMENT Andy Kentner has received a gov ernment appointment as lay inspector in the meat inspection division at Ottumwa, Iowa. He left Saturday to report for work Monday morning. The first basketball game of the season is scheduled for Friday, De cember 5th, when the Holy Name team of Omaha will be here to tangle with the Eellevue high school team, and all who possibly can should be out for the game. EXPECTED HOME THIS WEEK First Class Private Jack Byrnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Byrnes is expected home this week from the National Guard camp at Tullahoma, Tennessee.
