J. Smock and Miss Mary McCarroll. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Mc Carroll. of this city, were married at Pierce. Nebraska. July 1, 1941. The marriage ceremony v as perform ed by the Rev. O. T. Ant rem. pastor of the Methodist church. The couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Knobbe, of Norfolk, sister and brother-in-law of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Smock expect to reside in this city. Monday afternoon and this afternoon attracted a large num ber of the ladies of the community, the attendance being estimated at over 100. The school was under the sponsor ship of the Consumers Public Power district, the electric power distri butors in this territory. Mrs. Mabel Hildebrandt. nationally known econ omist from the Westinghouse Elec tric and Manufacturing company in Mansfield. Ohio, conducted the dem onstration. Mrs. Hildebrandt gave a demon stration of vitamized cooking that was enjoyed by the large number in attendance, the instructor showing the preparation of foods and the electric way of cooking. Many new ideas of cutting the kitchen costs were given by the nstructor as v-ell as the practical demonstrations. The dishes prepared by Mrs. Hildebrandt during the dem onstration were later distributed tc the ladies attending. LOUISVILLE WOMAN'S CLUB The book review and tea sponsor ed by the Louisville Federated Wom an's club as a library benefit was held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock on November 18, in the Methodist church parlors. j Over ninety people were present, 1 fifteen of whom came from Spring ; field to enjoy Mrs. Melvin E. John I son's charming and splendid presen tation of the bock. "The Keys of the Kingdom" by Dr. A. J. Cronin. j The president, Mrs. R. E. Uhley, ipaid tribute to the late Mrs. M. X. i Drake who was the first charter member of the club in 1929 and who 'had recently rejoined. "Father Al ' mighty" by Franck was sung by the Glee club with Mrs. Ec.rl Greene as 'the soloist. The Pilgrim women and Indians surrounding the table that represented what might have been 'the first Thanksgiving. Mrs. W. S McGrew as a Pilgrim grandmother igave thanks and invited the guests 'to the tea table. BREAKS ACADEMY RECORD At West Point. New York, Cadet William Evers broke the academy j ecord for the longest string of breaks on the skeet range by a score of j 1 3 5 straight, bettering the former j record by 20 birds. The academy 1 skeet team won the national inter collegiate team championship in both ;the shoulder to shoulder and tele graphic meets last spring, rnd had one of the members win the ind jvidual championship in a special 'event. This year's team of which Cadet Evers is a member has hopes of retaining the title and of bettering ! the former records, as the members have been shooting consistently high ! all fall. Some of the children, previously immunized for one or more of the diseases, did not take that vaccina tion In all there were 140 vacci nated, including rural pupils and pre-school children. Dr. R. w. Tyson gave the vaccinations, aided by Dr. L. Kling, district health officer, and the three nurses. Misses Mary G. TWO GLENWOOD NDIRODS BAGGED CANADIAN GEESE, Honors of the season go to Dr.1 L. D. Simmons and Rex York who. this Sunday moraine, each bagged a Canadian goose. They were out hunting just north of Bartlett when the geese came over. The bird bagged by Dr. Simmons weighed 11 pounds and the one by Rex York weighed 7 pounds. It is not often that sports men here these days bag a Canadian goose and the men have the envy of all other local hunters. The cold wave Saturday, froze northern lakes and started the ducks and geese south. The flight dow(n the Missouri river valley Sunday was reported to be heavy and if the weather warms up here, hunters ex pect the birds to linger in this vi cinity for a week or ten days mak ing hunting conditions good. Glen wood Opinion-Tribune. BIRTH OF DAUGHTER Mr. and Mrs. Alois Smetana have received the pleasant news, notify ing them that they are grandparents again. A daughter was born Friday, November 21 to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dashner at the Jennie Edmundson hospital at Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Dashners, who live in Glenwood. Iowa, have named their first child, Marelei Myrl. TO WINTER IN SOUTH HERE FOR FUNERAL SERVICE j Mrs. James Gilmour, of Seward. : Nebraska, was here Monday to at- itend the funeral of her brother, the late Andrew J. Snyder. Mrs. Andy t Morrow, also of Seward, a sister, was unable to attend the services. The two sisters are now the last of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Snyder, pioneers of Cass county, living. ! Mr. Gilmour is in very feeble health and was unable to accompany the wife here for the funeral ser vice. He is also a member of one of the pioneer families and is the eld- est brother of County Commissioner bam l . unmour. Miss Bertha Nickles and brother, Alt and Mrs. George Ray, all of the Murray neighborhood, departed the past week for Hot Springs. Arkansas, j on spending the winter in that sec- j tion and taking treatments at the! wonderful curative springs in the I Arkansas city. FALLS AT SHOPS As far as is known to date Michael Duda's injuries are a broken left arm and cuts. Mr. Duda fell from a scaffold at the BREX Monday morn ing. Dr. L. S. Pucelik was summon ed and "Mickey" was then rushed to the St. Catherine's hospital, Omaha, where he was treated and X-rays I taken for a possible hip injury. DAUGHTER TO ROUNDTREES.
