O $9-90 Bible School Sunday, July 27th "The Holy Spirit Inspires New Testament Letters" Gal. 1:11-12, I Thes. 2:13; II Tim. 3:14-17; II Pet. 3:14-16 and Judo 3. Without the inspired word of God, man could never find his way back to God. The writing of the Scrip tures covers a period of over 1,600 years, by some 39 authors. These men were inspired by the Holy Spirit, the message was "breathed" into them by the Holy Spirit; they ex pressed themselves in the language of their day; so to understand them it is necessary to know the condi tions under which they wrote and also the people and their language, that is, the meaning of their words.. In this way God could talk to man through his servants, make his plans and purposes known. Teach man his dependence on God and his responsi bility to God. The doubter of the in spiration of the Bible is here refer red to the phenomenal grip it has on man. After 1C00 years it is the best seller (over a million copies a year , while other books reach only 100,000 per year). The Bible is inexhaustible a hun dred volumes are written per year. inging out new truths. It is like a living spring or fountain, ever giv ing forth new life to a parched land. We look at some of the character istics in these letters and they all serve but one purpose, namely to make man acquainted with his mak er, in other words to reveal God to man. and to impart this knowledge to man. Beginning with St. Paul in writ ing to the Galatians. he says that his knowledge of God he did not learn from any man, neither was it hear say, hut: he got it direct oy special revelation, that is why he was so emphatic in declaring: "I know whom I have believed." II Tim. 1:12. Man can learn their creed and the- logy in college, that does not make him a witness for Christ. It is the indwelling Holy Spirit that brings the certainty to our consciousness of our acceptance of God. The church at Thesalonica received the gospel as the word of God: and the word shows its power through the believing ac ceptance of it. as an enlightening, elevating, sanctifying and comfort ing principle; as such it produced conviction and salvation. There is such a thing as preaching things that are not in the word of God words strictly in accord with the mere wisdom and follies of men. MAY HOLD BASEBALL SCHOOL fM,,!.. T. 1 1 tT! v,,ul "". Jimmy Dykes." has received a communica- tion from the federal works agency ot the W PA. conveying information from the National Athletic Associa . tion regarding a baseball school. The area supervisor, Mr. Samuel- son will he here in t lie near future to meet with Mr. Jackson, who has been a hard worker in recent years in the American Legion and Recrea tion teams. It is one of the plans to secure the services of as many old time baseball players as possible and that all young men and boys from Cass county interested be included. Dr. V. L. Neitzel, Murdock, Neb. We look at Paul's great statement of the doctrine of the inspiration of the scriptures. Paul is near the end of his life. The words of such a man as Taul, the greatest of all mission aries, the greatest of all theologians, the mightiest servant of Christ who ever lived, the last words of such a man, after years spent in preaching Christ, in founding churches, in see ing thousands saved, in writing about Christ, in defending the faith such testimony is of inestimable value. Of no book ever written of men can It be Raid that it is "profitable for teach ing, for reproof, for correction, for in struction in righteousness." This, of course refers primarily to the Old Testament. Timothy's mother and grandmoth er had no other scriptures. Taul in timates that they were inspired. The scriptures are holy for the following reasons: (a) They are given to ns by a Holy God; (b) They are communicated by !(ie jj0iy Spirit (II ret. 1:21); (c) They were given to us thru holy men; (d) They concern holy themes, a holy God. a holy gospel, a holy day, a holy life, worship in holiness, and the holy city to come. The product of such holy scripture if taught, preached and believed in, will produce men who are complete, ready for every good work in life yes, even to die, if it would further the kingdom of God. If Bible study does not produce men who are ready and willing to be spent in the service of God, then it has failed in its pur pose. We look now at Feter's testimony regarding the letters of Paul. Peter confirms what Paul has written, gives credit for wisdom and deep under standing and admonishes the church to follow the teachings that they may be at peace with men, clean in life, without spot and . blameless. Such will the Gospel produce. And that is the greatest witness and tes timony for the inspiration of the scriptures. The fruit is holy because the seed and the tree are holy. But if a preacher and teacher does not believe in the inspiration of the whole Bible, they have no business to mutilate the Bible, let them step down and out. Their labors will not have the desired result nor will they receive any reward. They may save their souls, but fire will destroy their labor. A regenerated man knows the difference.
