By ROBERT COOK From Monday's Darly - riattsmouth's Legion team lost its second straight game yesterday when Union combined hits, walks, wild pitches, and what-have-you to give them an 8-3 thumping. La nnrr Keene worked on the hill for the visitors and allowed only three hits while fanning six. Mr. Keene also led his team at bat with a double and a single in three trips. Eldon Vroman pitched five innings for the locals and gave six hits while whiffing four. Russ Nielsen hurled one inning and hit everything ex cept the catcher's mit. He struck out one. Gradoville, Vroman and Short got riattsmouth's hits. Union first erupted in the second. Holthuscn walked, and L. Keene singled to left, Holthusen taking third. Kruger was safe on High field's bad toss, and Holthusen scored. McCord doubled over Strick land's head to drive in L. Keene. j Plattsmouth tallied once in the third. Johnson walked, stole sec ond and third and came in on Grado ville's poke to left. Union iced up matters in the fourth. Holthusen and L. Keene walked, Kruger singled to right to .core Holthusen, and L. Keene also came Ln on Strickland's wild heave to the plate. Meredith singled to right and Kruger scored. Union marched on in the fifth. Burke singled to right-center and took second when the ball rolled through Short. L. Keene doubled to left bringing in Burke. Union wound up matters in the sixth with everybody ducking Niel sen's scatter arm pitches. McCord was safe on Highfield's foot and went to third on a wild pitch. Gil bert was bashed by a pitched ball. X. Keene grounded to Richards, and home romped McCord. Gilbert scored on Noble's wild throw. Burke walk ed and went to second on a balk. Holthusen took one on the shoulder and staggered down to first. Niel sen finally forced L. Keene to foul to Gradoville, ending the inning. Plattsmouth made a belated rally in the sixth. Vroman lined one to center, swiped second and third, and galloped across the plate when Nielsen's grounder hopped through Kruger's glove. Russ stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on Short's Texas Leaguer to right. In about two years Plattsmouth should have a pretty strong Legion outfit. The present squad is com posed of a green but willing to learn bunch of kids. Box score: Union AB R H PO A E Gilbert, 3b 3 1 0 2 0 0 N. Keene, c 400611 Burke, 2b 3 11110 Holthusen, lb 1 2 0 7 0 0 L. The city council rolled through a short and interesting session last evening with a full sized membership on hand when Mayor Llllie gave the "go ahead" signal promptly at 8 o'clock. The members had an unusual treat in the visitation of a charivari party from the BREX shops who came to greet Councilman Robert Painter, a foreman in the shops and also third ward councilman. This is the first time in many years if not in history of the council that one of the mem bers has been wedded while a coun cilman. The council received a communi cation from Robert "White and others asking that a street light be placed at 10th and Pearl streets. This was referred to the lighting committee for investigation. Chairman Schutz of the lighting committee reported that the elec trol.er at 4th and Pearl streets had trrn repaired and placed in service. Chairman Seiver of the police com mittee, reported that the city jail was in bad shape and needed clean ing up, a door fixed and the furnace placed In shape before winter use. This was referred to the parks and improvement committee. Chairman Schutz of the WPA com mittee reported that he had been trying to get some action on the new road to the cemetery which has dragged for the past three years when the moves for the new surfaced road was launched. He had appeal ed to engineers to get busy but with no result. The people wanted and expected the road to be constructed and it should be carried out as pro posed. It was at this time that the shop men arrived with the "ransom" note to Councilman Painter that produced the desired results and the members of the shop force withdrew to pre pare for the festivities at the Painter home. The opinion of the city attorneys was read in which it was held that the objection holders of city bonds to the setting out of any part of the ciy for taxaion, would not be a valid defense. It was decided to proceed with the contest on the peti tion of John T. Becker and others to have property set outside of the city limits. Henry Jasper was present and pre sented the matter of the purchaes by the city of a power street flusher such as used in many of the larger cities. Mr. Jasper stated that one similar to the type used in Omaha and other places could be secured for ?42o. He also complained that the use of hose on the streets for wash ing had made necessary the purchase of 5500 worth of new hose. This natter was referred to a special com mittee to which Mayor Lillie ap pointed Councilmen W. H. Puis, John F. Schutz, Evan C. Noble and Don Seiver. Payment of bond premium for the city attorney was laid over for in vestigation by the finance commit tee. It was stated that the Missouri Pacific railroad had seemed favorable to the proposition of assisting in the new cemetery road by a change in the pier under the Locust street un derpass. It was decided to have a communication sent D. S. Sumner, local agent. By ROBERT COOK Prom Monday' Daily More and more the boys around this neck of the woods are learning what the word "blitzkrieg" means. Yesterday Plattsmouth's town team blitzed Lloyd Schmadeke in the first inning, anad he never got ovtr It as the Merchants pounded out a twelve hit 9-3 victory in revenge for a 6-5 defeat earlier this year. Jack O'Don nell led Plattsmouth with thre hits while. Brandt's triple was the only highlight in Nehawka's weak ef forts. Joe Noble returned to his old form as he limited Nehawka to three hits and struck out eight. Lloyd Schmadeke fanned six. Ault made us wonder what Jimmy Ripple has that's so great with his great play In the second. Fitch grounded to Phillips and threw ahead of Ault at first. Gene dove through the air, snagged the ball, and kicked the base with his foot as he flew by. Plattsmouth shelled Schmadeke with a six-hit barrage in the first. Smith singled to left, Hayes doubled to center, and O'Donnell singled to left to drive them both in. Phillips lined a hit to deep left, and when Brandt let it roll through him, both runners tallied. Noble singled to right and took second on Ault's grounder to Easter. Petet sliced one into left, and Noble crossed the plate. Plattsmouth continued to bombard Graybeard in the second. Smith singled to deep short and went to second on Hayes' slow roller to Em- berry. O'Donnell singled to left to score Smith. Nehawka finally tallied in the third. Brandt tripled to deep center and scored when Phillips missed Em berry's grounder. The visitors chalked up another one In the fifth. Nelson singled to Hayes, took second on a passed ball, and scored when Evans missed Noble's throw at C sack. , Plattsmouth also scored in the fifth O'Donnell slashed a hot one to Fitch which turned him completely around and went for a hit. Nelson dropped Phillips' long smash, and O'Donnell took third. Emberry dropped Noble's popup, and O'Donnell scored. Nehawka scored again in the sev enth. Schmadeke reached second when Petet failed to hold his long drive and went to third on Fitch's bounce to Phillips. Easter drove a single to left, and Schmadeke jogged in. Plattsmouth made its last time at bat a good one. With two out, Evans singled on a Baltimore hop to sec ond. Petet singled into left, and Evans rounding second was trapped between B and C hassocks However, Emberry missed Fitch's throw in the rundown, and George ran on to score. Petet taking second. Cuthrell slammed a terrific drive to the center field bank but was held to a single as Petet scored. There were no walks or wild pitches in the game. Pox score: Nehawka AB R H PO A.
