PAGE EIGHT ARRIVAL OF NEW SON The home of Mr. and Mrs. Marlon Taylor in the south part of the city was made very happy on Saturday by the arrival of a fine son. The lit tle one weighed some eight pounds and with the mother is doing well. Lowson, pastor of the FirFt Methodist church, has return ed home from Beatrice, Nebraska, where he attended a meeting of the members of the Methodist clergy in the state. The week session was devoted to the study and practice of evans;elif;m. the pastors being called upon to hold many meetings in Ilcatrice and nearby places to demon strate thoir ability as evangelists. ONLY ONE REJECTED n the group of thirty young men sent from Cass county for service under the selective service act, there was only one that failed to pass the physical te?ts. Emil Anton Haden of thi3 city was rejected by the ex am ning board, the others being ac cepted and sent to Fort Leavenworth for their induction into service. They will later be assigned to one of the carnps for training. Father Joseph R. Sinkula, pastor of the Holy Rosary church of this city is at the St. Catherine's hospital at Omaha, where he will rest and re ceive treatment. It i3 hoped that a short course of treatment with the rest will permit his return soon to Lis parish. Ho has not been operated on as yet and i still under treatment. He is thought to be suffering front a se vere attack of bladder stones. FIFTY YEARS AGO Grand Army Affairs From Journal, Dec. 7, 1891: Sat urday evening occurred a largely attended meeting of McConihe post, Grand Army of the Republic at their hall in the Rockwood building. The occasion was the election of officers for the ensuing year. Arrangements had been made by the W. R. C. for paying a fraternal visit to the post, without knowing of the important business on hand in the rost, but this program was somewhat inter fered with, and the ladies were com pelled to wait for pome time in the ante room. A High Five League From Journal, Mardi 7, 1S91: Six couples of Plattsmouth's society peo ple young married men with their wives have recently formed a league for the purpose of playing a series of games of the enticing game ,of high five at their several resi dences, and last evening the party met for their first encounter at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Mor gan, where the evening was most de lightfully spent. The intention is to keep a record of all the games with I the winners and losers thereof, and (at the end of the series of six eve nings' play some valuable souvenir of the occasion will be given to the jlucky and unlucky ones. The league lis certain to afford much amusement .to the participants. The party as made up is composed of Messrs. and Mesdames C. C. Par- Jmele, Dr. E. W. Cook. C. D. Eads. D. iC.
